I just bought the 2021 King Ranch Explorer and love the lights. Tonight was the first time driving it at night and with diabetic eyes I had absolutely no problem! Auto highbeams were spot on. Second day with the vehicles and I don't have an ounce of buyer's remorse.
One of the cool things I really like about the Auto Highbeams on Lincoln is that they fade in and out so it doesn't look like you're flashing people when they turn on and off. Would be great if Explorer picked that up. Great video!
So led hi Led low Led drl strip Led turn strip Led fogs Led mirror turn Led tail But no led turn & reverse or led plate lights Why couldn't they all make the led match why go cheap in the rear of the vehicle
@@PrimeAutotainment The adaptive headlights on my CX-9 Signature were a bit better than the Explorer ... the Explorer though has WAY better acceleration. :)
I have a 2021 limited… and I got to say, the limited is the best bang for your buck… the 2.3 is no slouch… the interior quality matches the platinum… but if you need the largest screen and the absolute most power the st and platinum is what you need, but it will cost you.
I love having access to my console/dash board on the steering column.. Especially on the fly you can cycle through Everything !! Awesome safety feature 👏 👍.. Good Job Ford !!
My 2017 Explorer xlt had LED low beams and incandescent high beams. I hated using the brights. Never understood the logic on that one. Why would you need bright LED for high beams. (Sarcasm). Now with my 2021 XLT it has them on both and love it.
Andrew K. NI I’m with you. After spending more time with it I really wasn’t a big fan of how they formatted some things on the screen and the actual up and down style with it. Thanks for stopping by sir! 👍
It's too bad that the high beams won't come on in auto mode under 32 mph. My Silverado high beams come on much sooner, and that is something that I greatly appreciate living in the country where driving at night on dirt roads is a slow speed event. I have yet to find a way to adjust the speed restriction on this Explorer so instructions on how to adjust it to a lower setting would be greatly appreciated.
The Low beam projector easily makes a Good on IIHS, but the IIHS doesn't aim the headlamps before they test, the car they tested was aimed 0.25deg low ( or 5.2inches low each 100 ft). At 300ft that's pointed into the ground. IIHS good is a new paradigm in headlamp performance and need very precise factory aiming, that the OEMs are still working on improving. You should always check your headlamp aim, every year or after tire changes. Aim is very very important for reach and not blinding oncoming traffic.
I have a XLT, anyone know if i can swap out the factory headlights for these and theyll work with no lights on the dash, without the adaptive moving left/right? I hate the headlights in this car.
A good review - but I can see why the highbeams sucked, they should have had both a higher and wider spread - the term that comes to mind is "out-driving your lights". Kind of a similar issue with the fog lights. They should be a narrow beam with an exceptionally wide spread. A lot of users/manufacturers have never driven with "good" fog lights so IMO they can't be a worthwhile judge of quality (and some install driving beams where they state they are fog). Take a set of KC G4 out on the road to see what a decent pair of LED Fog lights looks like. Another thing that doesn't come out in these videos is the white point (expressed in Kelvin as a temperature of a black body) and the CRI (expressed in a number between 0-100% of colors visible under sunlight). When HIDs came out at least they intentionally limited their white point to
Can you please do a review on either an ST or Limited Explorer? I would like to see the performance of the reflector based LEDs. I would very much appreciate it.
I’ve seen it. He obviously had one with an issue. It’s definitely far from perfect but the transmission issues he talked about weren’t present in this one...but I also didn’t drive in freezing weather
So on Ford's website, it says the high beams are halogen reflector, but here they most definitely look LED. Can anyone confirm? I have checked the specs for both the Platinum and ST and it gives the same info.
I’ve seen that too but on spec sheets and the order guide here: media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/product/2020/Explorer/2020-Explorer-Order-Guide.pdf It lists all trims to have LED high and Low beams, the platinum gets projectors instead of reflectors but all Explorers will have LED. The IIHS tests headlights and grades them... check it out here where you can see the difference between the reflectors and projectors: www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/ford/explorer-4-door-suv/2021#headlights 👍
@@PrimeAutotainment It seems maybe Ford has forgotten to update some of the information for the lighting it may have carried over from the previous gen, which did in fact have LED Low Beam, and Halogen High Beam.
Nice for FORD to have all those interior and exterior lighting; TOO BAD Ford failed to shine the most important light on their Build QUALITY, more lights to shine on the failure!
Someone is doing a giveaway and mailed it. I've send it back with info and hopefully, I'll win a 2022 Ford Explorer Platinum Hybrid. Hoping I'll win 🤞🤞
The headlights are ridiculous. No one needs lights that bright. All they do is blind other drivers at night if you accidentally leave them on bright. I met one one night and almost wrecked. It was like I was looking at to suns on the front of it. So stupid.
