Great Video Jason. I believe I accidentally erased a question that I had so I'm reposting. I recently purchased the Garmin Virb 360 camera, I was wondering if the various sensor information i.e.-speed, Heart Rate info, G-Force, directional compass overlays etc. etc. Would be able to be picked up and edited in premiere? I also would be interested to get your tboughts on the overall camera performance. I appreciate any input that you may have on this. Thanks for your time.

Hi Jason, great video as per usual. I was wondering if you knew the fix at the Exporting step where selecting Channels: 4.0 wasnt available? I only have 5.1, Mono and Stereo as selectable. My sequence is definitely Adaptive with 4 channels. I'm using Premiere Pro 2022. Thank you!

Fantastic tutorial. I just subbed. Do you know if there is a preset on Premiere to upload HDR video on RU-vid? RU-vid doesnt accept H265. Thx.
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Hi Jennifer. Thanks for the sub! :) RU-vid's HDR support is a bit tricky, and currently (to my knowledge) Resolve is the only app that embeds their standards-compliant metadata out of the box; but you *should* theoretically be able to use their HDR Metadata Tool to add what is needed. You are correct tho that H.265 is not yet supported, but there are several other formats (including ProRes 422/4444 and DNxHR HQX) which can all be exported from Premiere Pro CC. You can find more detailed info about it here: tinyurl.com/kxgr4vt

Hi Jason. Several questions. I followed the steps for CC 2018 but when I go to export and choose the monoscopic ambisonics preset, under audio, there are several differences from your screen. channels only shows mono, stereo, or 5.1 (there is no 4.0). Bitrate maxes out at 160. finally, there is no checkbox for Ambisonics. Can you let me know how to fix this? I'm using Premiere 12.0.0 Buid 224, a Ricoh Theta V (i already converted the files to get 4 channels). I also noticed that the sequence settings, channel format is stuck at stereo. It won't let me change it. Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to part 2! I'm using that mic and I think I get most of it to the point that this video was helpful, but I'm sure there's a lot to be learned. Only question - If Facebook is taking 8 channel ambisonic videos and youtube is taking 4 channel, will the video only play correctly on that platform? Are there other platforms that accept this kind of audio and what side do they fall on?

Hey Jake. It's still a bit of the wild-west when it comes to VR/Spatial these days. I'm not certain what happens w/regard to compatibility across the platforms; my assumption is that is either works or it'll do some kind of fold-down...but I'm still in the process of investigating. Part 2 will be created shortly. Thanks for watching.

Thank's so much for this tutorial. Saved me hours of headache. I just have a quick question. Let's say I wanted to add another single mono track (off voice of narrator) to the existing 4-track ambisonic track. How do I incorporate this in the whole mix, so that the off voice is not changing its location when moving the head? Thank you so much!

@TheFlyingExperience
@TheFlyingExperience 5 лет назад
Can we do it manually and kinda cheat a little and manually do a left, right and center mix?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 5 лет назад
Not quite sure what you mean here; ambisonic mixing is a very unique experience; ultimately, it's meant to re-create the immersive 'head space' one would experience in their environment...so L/R/C doesn't really apply because something could be 'towards the left', but in an immersive/ambisonic environment, it's not discrete. Center is particularly tricky because as you move your head (and listening via a headset) the 'center' is fluid, not static. Having said that...play around and have fun!
@TheFlyingExperience
@TheFlyingExperience 5 лет назад
@@jasonlevinevideo sorry my bad, my question was really stupid. Ok let me try this way - Is there a way that we can record a voice over track and keep that one track centered to one spot so when you move/look up and down the voice slightly fades in and out? Not a big deal but I am putting together a museum guided tour of the Wright Patterson base with my camera on top of my head and wanted to make the sound as realistic as possible. Thank for all your great advise and no doubt ALL my Premiere and AE skills started by watching your videos. And, here I am with VR and thus my question to you lol. So, is it possible to add voice over track and specify a centered spot for one particular track?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 5 лет назад
Not a stupid question at all and I've received quite a few around this exact same ask. Sadly, by design, there's currently no way to 'fix' the position of something like V.O. in an ambisonic soundtrack. Everything is always fluid, based on the position of the viewer/listener's head. There might be some encoders out there that could possibly 'hack' the format and do something like what you're asking...but I'm not aware of any. The only way do keep voice 'omni-present' would be to essentially copy the VO, place in a new track (or tracks), and use the Ambisonic Panner in PPRO's track mixer to keep it present in all locations in the spherical space. This, however, often leaves undesired artifacts (in the form of weird phase issues and amplification problems) and, well, I wouldn't recommend it. But again, give it a try and see if it works 'enough' for what you're wanting to do.

Hello Jason, a very great tutorial. When I create a VR project (including Ambisonic) in Premiere Pro, is there then also the possibility to set that individual tracks do not have the ambisonic effect? For example, that the recorded atmosphere sound has the ambisonic effect, but music and speaker are always listened to equally from all sides. Are there setting options for this in Premiere Pro? Best regards, Florian
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 4 года назад
Hi Florian. Unfortunately, be design, when you're working with an ambisonic soundtrack in PPRO, all audio will be placed into an immersive ambisonic environment. So, you can't have a static 'center' or 'left' channel audio, because the nature of the VR/Ambi combination is that it moves when your head moves (and there is no 'left', as everything becomes spherically placed). There are some ways to simulate that (by doubling audio tracks) but this involves a lot of manual keyframing and isn't still exactly what you want. This is why I typically say... if you didn't capture ambisonic/spatial audio in the first place (and even if you did, is it 'good'?) Stereo audio with VR video is my preferred viewing experience.

i got a question. i managed to record spatial audio on my H2n after updating it to 3.0. but when i import them into my timeline, 4 audio layers came in instead of 1. is there a setting in H2n that i need to change to be a single layer like how urs did?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 5 лет назад
If you recorded in Spatial mode, the h2n should output a single (interleaved) WAV file. You must set PPRO to recognize multichannel audio files as 'adaptive' (this can be done in Timeline>Preferences... the location moved since I shot this video) and then when you create a sequence (which *must* have an multichannel output with a minimum of 4 channels) it should import the audio clip into one track (instead of breaking out 4 mono streams).
@MotionScientist
@MotionScientist 5 лет назад
Jason Levine my display on h2n says Imni, Lr and Fb. But when i import in premiere and drag into my timeline, it creates 4 layers of audio and 4 audio tracks, respectively. How do i turn it to a single interleaved?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 5 лет назад
I'm not sure about those modes. Also, I'm running firmware v. 2.0 (which introduced spatial audio support) so perhaps we're experiencing different things? In any case, the interleaved file is created on the device itself, not after the fact. If in fact you have a single WAV that contains 4-channels from the Zoom, if you set up the timeline as I mentioned above, it should insert into a single track (with all four channels as one WAV file). Here's a link to setting Spatial on the H2n with v.2 firmware: support.google.com/jump/answer/7025846?hl=en

Thank you Jason. This (and your FB update in 2018) have been VERY helpful. I had to rename my spacial audio track extension from .WAV to .AMB to get Premier 14.0 (windows) to work correctly with the spacial audio file that I recently shot with a Zoom H2n recorder (firmware version 3.0). I noticed that the audio files that you work with in these demos have .WAV extensions, so I'm not sure why I needed to change mine. My .WAV file, when moused-over in the project window reads "24 bit - 4 Mono", where as the .AMB version of the same recording reads, "24 bit - 4 Mono mapped to Adaptive" Also, the .WAV displays in my timeline as four separate tracks; whereas the .AMB occupies one audio track with four 'sub-tracks' within that one. I am still not sure why this renaming worked for me to get everything to work like the way things do in your demo. Perhaps the reason may have been that I duplicated my original WAV, then changed that duplicated extension, and then imported (by dragging from Explorer Window to the PP Project window) that new .AMB back into Premiere -- that is, perhaps it was the reimporting that made the difference? But I don't think so, really it does seem to me that it was the change of the extension to .AMB. Might this be some new behavior for Premiere 14.0 ? And in case it helps anyone else find it, an updated version of this tutorial is here: facebook.com/premierepro/videos/vb.339019825618/10156336834005619/

@jasonlevinevideo

Yes, VR 180 has been supported since 2018 (a year after this was created). I'm not sure what you're asking in reference to 'binaural' tho?? When exported with an Ambisonic (4-channel) audio track, it is essentially encoded into a (stereo) binaural stream. This is what RU-vid is delivering on playback. Also, I did an update on VR (in two parts) just a few months back. You can find those vids here.

@jasonlevinevideo

Are you importing a four-channel (interleaved) audio file into an Adaptive track or is it four mono stems? You must have a sequence that has a four-channel audio master for PPRO to 'show' you the binauralizer effects.
@CraigCapello
@CraigCapello 6 лет назад
It took a while to learn but the Sennheiser Ambeo is only stereo binaural - which is still pretty slick. But after watching your video repeatedly, I'm already hooked and looking at some other mic options. Thanks for the awesome video, even if I'm late to the party.
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 6 лет назад
Hmmm... I believe the raw audio from the Sennheiser is 4-channel A-Format. You need to convert to 4-channel B-Format to create the Ambisonic variation that PPRO likes. All four-channel Ambisonic B-Format content will be encoded to stereo binaural upon delivery (this is how you consume it, via RU-vid, FB or anywhere else) but you should absolutely be able to take its native four stems and encode into a proper high order ambisonic B multichannel file (I'm just not familiar enough w/their plugin to tell you how to do so)

I have what is probably going to be a dumb question. I see you kept the audio from your video source, is that going to be mixed in with the audio in the H2n as well or will it be ignored since you chose ambisonic audio? Is it better practice to delete that track after syncing or does it matter in the end?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 6 лет назад
That's actually a great question; I only use it to sync the ambisonic track and then ultimately it's muted before export. You could leave it in there, but as it'll get encoded along with the proper ambisonic (h2n) audio, there will (potentially) be some weird phase/position-type issues, and ultimately, the on-camera audio is really just for reference. BTW...just connected on Twitter. Great stuff! Are you producing some new vids in 360? Would be very interesting to see!
@Thefatveganchef

I have a Gear 360 from my Note8 promotion, just bought a H2n and planning on getting the Lenovo Mirage. I am thinking about using them for vacation or scenic footage in the future, and might experiment with doing a cooking video with the Mirage and H2N, have to figure out the logistics when I get the devices, my kitchen is hard to film in. Do you know what the max distance between the camera and mic is before you start losing "true" stereo or ambisonic audio?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 6 лет назад
If you're looking to get a 'close mic'ed' kind of vocal sound (as if you were lav mic'ed or boom mic'ed) anything beyond about 12 inches (particularly coming off the internal h2n mics) is already going to sound a little distant. Ambisonic recording (where voice over is concerned) is really a very different thing, and this is in part why there are multiple ways to capture and/or assemble+encode into an ambi-x format (sourced from multiple mono and/or stereo sources). Proximity will always play a role with spatial audio output; so with vacay footage (and other things where total directionality isn't as much an issue) it's probably fine. But remember, your 'position' will change (to the listener) if they start moving around (and currently the way it's encoded for export, there's no real 'locking down' of position--this is the nature of binaural reproduction) so it might take some experimentation to see if you like the results and/or what works best (assuming you want to create something around a teaching/cooking series). Food for thought. See what I did there? :P
@Thefatveganchef
@Thefatveganchef 6 лет назад
I am looking at it as where I am going to put the camera and mic in relation to each other. I am thinking of a double L bracket for tripod work but if I am handheld that might not work as well, and I saw a run and gun cell phone holder that can hold the Lenovo or cell phone and has two mounts on top for a mic and light that are around 4-6 inches away from the camera. In my current setup for the videos I have an H4n sitting just out of frame, and that is where I will put the H2n, and the camera will be probably below that or just a bit further. I might be overthinking it thinking the audio needs to be in the same vertical plane as the camera for best sound. I am guessing that RU-vid will not care if I have some regular stereo audio mixed with the ambisonic for things like background sound or montage.
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 6 лет назад
The main consideration is distance; the h2n doesn't offer anything like hyper/supercardioid polar patterns (you can achieve cardioid via the M/S configuration, and its X/Y is good for stereo reproduction) but again, it's more about being roughly aligned where your voice will be projecting and minimizing the distance. If you're planning to create an ambisonic soundtrack to accompany 360 video, the encode will force all signals to live in an ambisonic space; so at your orientation point, regular stereo will seemingly be the same kind of stereo...but as you move around, things will start to move unnaturally. I would definitely not recommend capturing ambisonic sound with a moving camera/mic config. It gets super puke-inducing very quickly.

Hi there. See my reply above; basically, if you insert a stereo (or mono) clip onto a 4-channel adaptive track in premiere's timeline, you can then add the Binaural Panner effect to the TRACK (via the Track mixer) and reposition the audio (tilt, pan, roll) in the ambient/spatial domain.

Hi again, sorry - it´s been a while. Due to the bad weather, I didn´t do any 360 filming. Now I made some tests, following your suggestions. I recorded with the H2N (ambisonic) and a tascam Dr-10 with lavalier (mono). I walked around the fixed camera and clapped every 90°. Then I imported both files into a VR ambisonic sequence Premiere Pro (even created a new adaptive audio track to be on the safe side). Then I applied the "panner-ambisonics" effect to the track where the mono file sits on. But no matter what values I enter for pan (90°, -90°,.....), I only hear the sound in the left headphone ear. I´ve now been searching the web for hours, but I haven´t found any info on how to achieve that. May I humbly ask for your help?

VR is definitely still quite new as a consumption format for the masses, very much in it's infancy...but it's getting easier, faster to create and there's definitely more awareness with each passing week. Definitely worth investing some time to learn more and be familiar with the various 'flavours' currently out there. I'll keep you posted here :) Thanks for the sub!

How do you change an existing sequence to one that supports Ambisonic? Turns out, the Binauralizer doesn't show up in the menu unless you do. Do have Multi-mono adaptive set to on. Anything else?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Unfortunately, you are not able to change the number of output channels in a Sequence after it's been set. You have to set the output channels to 4 at the start. However, you could create a new sequence (with 4 channels of output; perhaps try one of the new VR/Ambisonic presets and configure to your needs) and then you can copy/paste all the media from your original sequence into the new one (which will support your Ambi-x audio) drop in your audio file and you're good to go.

Hi Jason, I've a question about spatial sound for 360 vr video... I haven't understand which type of audio can be used or is better, binaural or ambisonic. I've see that somebody use the zoom h2n recorder in 4 channels mode for their 360 video workflow. I've the Tascam DR-05 with binaural external mic by Roland CS-10EM (they are like headphones with 2 binaural mic). Can I use them for create spatial audio for my 360 video? or is necessary that I need a recorder like zoom h2n that recording with 4 mics? can you give me some info? thank you. sergio
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
If we're talking about Premiere Pro spatial audio workflow, you need to have an ambisonic audio file by default, with four channels. Binaural audio (by definition) is captured and played back via two channels, requiring headphones to really experience the spatial nature of it (which is what makes it so brilliant). The Binauralizer showcased in the video takes the ambisonic (4-channel) audio and lets you hear what it will sound like on RU-vid via headphones or 2-channel playout. But in any case, Premiere requires an ambisonic 4-channel audio file (like the AMBI-X files generated by the Zoom H2N) to be married together with 360 video.

@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Hey Mike. Whoa...1.6GB for two minutes? I'm guessing 4K? That's pretty huge, but YT will accept it; better to have a higher bitrate/larger master that you upload, as YT will re-compress (even at 4K) and create all of the subsequent versions (ie, 1080p, 720p, 480p, etc) Did you use one of our newer VR presets? The bitrates are high, but that's a good thing in this case...

got a question: is there a way to add spherical audio to my 360 video without recording it as ambisonic to begin with? say I don't have the audio gear but I do have some audio files like waves or wind or anything like that and I would like to place my mono audio in different places in a spherical setup of some kind. is that possible?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 5 лет назад
Yes, you can absolutely do this, either in straight stereo or by using the ambisonic panner effect on an adaptive track. The only issue with doing the latter is that your audio won't necessarily 'follow' the visual, so as one pans/tilts, etc, it could make for a strange experience. I typically recommend using stereo audio when ambisonics weren't captured at the start (just to keep it simple) but give it a try!
@YOOOFI

@@jasonlevinevideo thanks for your reply. will try that. though I do prefer the spherical audio to follow the visual if possible. it seems logical to me there should be a way to create it maybe through an app or plugin that let's you set the surroundings audio for a 360 video and stick it to the corresponding 360 environment? like in here where it's all animation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Au5ro1NOnhI.html how do they make 360 animation for example? is it because the camera isn't moving? if you do have further thoughts about this let me know.

Hey Jason! Love your Videos. Unfortunately I followed every step and still had mono-sound in every exported file. I have to add that I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2018 not 17. Still it seemed like there are no major differences to your version, so do you have an idea what might be wrong? I have a video 4096x2048 px, Framerate 59,94, monoscopic; the audio ist 48000 HZ - 4 channels: All I'm trying to do is cut out a part and export it with ambisonic Audio. I changed the audio-preset as you said, I started a ne sequence with VR > Monoscopic > 4096x2048 and added a 4th audio channel. I tried to export the file in various ways, for example in VR monoscopic match source ambisonics. But each and every time I get a VR-File with a mono-sound. What am I missing? Greatings!

@jasonlevinevideo

Absolutely. Just did this as a test not long ago; you'll want to drop the (preferably stereo) clip into an adaptive 4-channel track (which you should have already in the sequence). Add the ambisonic pannel (at the TRACK level; it won't work at clip level because the clip isn't 4-channel) and you'll be able to re-position (tilt, pan, roll) accordingly.

If you're not hearing anything in Premiere 'before' the export, then it makes sense that you wouldn't get it post-export. I would check to make sure that your sequence settings are correct (and that you're not routing the sound in some strange way). Best to start with one of the VR+Ambisonic presets and bring your content in from there. There's also a checkbox on how to handle multichannel audio (under Prefs-Timeline...the location moved since this video was recorded) and make sure you choose 'Adaptive'. Additionally, i'd verify that the type of ambisonic file you're working with is the correct one (stated in the video).

Hi Axel. If you perform a 'synchronize' function (by selecting clips in the sequence, RtClk>Synchronize) instead of Merge Clips (same action, but different approach to final output) it should retain the 4-channel ambisonic file w/o splitting into individual channel stems.

Are you talking about the 'monitor ambisonics' option? This is meant to be used once you have a proper VR headset connected (like an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive). If you don't have a headset, you can still monitor the output of the ambisonic audio by placing the 'Binauralizer' effect onto the Master audio channel. This option, however, will not follow the video as you move the view on-screen...it's merely for 'auditioning/testing' before you publish. You will want to remove the binauralizer before you export.

Your sequence must be setup so that you have a 4-channel master. If you have done that, when you go to export, assuming you're using H.264 as the format, scroll down the preset menu and you'll see VR+Ambisonic export presets. @jasonlevinevideo 6 лет назад
Hi Shaun. I'm guessing this was recorded via a Zoom H2N? That is actually the correct behavior for files generated from that device. Unlike standard Ambisonic microphones, the H2n doesn’t have any mic capsules pointing up or down, so it only records horizontal 1st order Ambisonics. In the AmbiX format, the order of channels is WYZX so for the H2n the third channel (Z) will be empty. TBH, IMHO this doesn't radically affect the spatial 'immersive' feeling in any real way at all. True, something like the Sennheiser Ambisonic microphone will capture a truer 'spatial' representation...but again, how you perceive it in a headset isn't much different (unless there are really discrete sounds emerging from above and below, from which our brains don't really perceive exact positioning anyway)

@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 5 лет назад
Hi there. The Zoom H1n doesn't support ambisonic/spatial recording, as it's a stereo-only device. You would need something like the H2n or greater (and not all of the higher-end models support Ambisonics either; you need to research. But for certain, the H2n does, as that's the device I use).

If I plug an H2N recorder into an Insta 360 Pro 2 (attached via the 1/4 mount on top of the camera) - do I need to have the mic oriented in a certain way so that the audio matches the video?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 4 года назад
Hi Mark. Yes, with the H2N in Ambisonic Mode (via the 2.0 firmware) you'll want the display side facing forward (same direction as the lens), so if you were looking at the camera, you would see the LCD display of the H2N. Keep in mind that the only limitation with it is that there's no 'top' mic...so should you bring the (4-channel WAV) into Premiere or other NLEs, you will notice that channel 3 of the WAV doesn't contain any audio. However, this does not diminish the immersive effect and the H2N is still an inexpensive standard in capturing ambisonic audio for RU-vid and elsewhere (I've got one and love it).
@mOo84
@mOo84 4 года назад
@@jasonlevinevideo Thanks for the reply Jason! Funnily enough I'd seen other videos suggesting the 'non-display' side should face the same direction as the first lens to the right of the LED display of the camera, but I'll go with your advice! I noticed that empty track once importing the footage into Premiere. It's handy that with the H2N acting as an external mic on the Insta 360 Pro 2, there's no need to sync the audio or do anything to it as it's just baked in with the footage.

Hey Jason. Before I can follow along with this tutorial, I hope that you can help me resolve something. I tried to follow along with the sequence settings to allow for my ambisonic audio tracks to appear the way they do in your tutorial (as a single track but with 4 channels within), but with no luck. What I did is create a new project, import my video from the Odyssey rig, and then I thought it might be cool to learn how to add the spatial audio from the H2n. This is all for a short trailer for my Google Jump Start project, which I have to submit today haha. I leave things for last minute sometimes... Anyway, I have the audio file from the Zoom H2n sitting in my project panel after import from media browser, and after making sure I tick off adaptive in multichannel media, I drag it into my timeline, but it creates 4 new tracks. I tinkered around with the audio file in the project panel and selected modify>audio channels>and changed "preset" and "clip channel format" from mono to adaptive. I again dragged the track into the timeline, and it's now a single audio track, but when I zoom into the track to see the channels, there's only 2, and not 4. So I ask...what am I doing wrong? haha. Thanks so much in advance! Boris

Hi Boris. Sorry I'm getting to this a little late. You might consider clearing the media cache (in both Premiere Pro and After Effects). I've run into a few instances where (former) AMBIX files (prior to the CC2018 update) where the audio portions had been cached were causing a similar issue. If clearing the cache doesn't solve it, simply right-click/control click on the file in the project panel and choose Modify>Audio Channels. Set 'Preset' to Adaptive, 'Clip Channel Format' to Adaptive; Active Channels Per Clip: 4, Number of Audio Clips: 1. This should do the trick.

Hi Jason, Thanks for coming back. So I have chosen the VR presets for the sequence settings, choosing one with Ambisonics. Under track I have changed to adaptive for the channels. So I'm a bit unclear by what you mean regarding '...right click on the audio WAV and modified it'. You shouldn't have to modify the file itself. In any case, if you setup the audio track import correctly in preferences (based on what I showed), your interleaved, single file (containing four channels) should appear in a single track and in the track header you should see a '4', indicating it's a four-channel audio file. If that's the case, you're good to go!

High is there a way to "build" an ambisonic sound in premiere? I mean, bring in a stereo recording of the ambient sounds, a mono track from a lav mike, a couple of mono tracks for other sfx and just "place" them in the right place within the sound sphere? I thought that the ambisonic mixer would do that but it can only be applied to ambisonic clips :( I tried reinterpreting my clips as 4 channel adaptive clips - the ambisonic panner could be added to them, but none of the controls had any effect - I'm guessing because the sound was actually placed at 0,0,0 so no rotations actually moved it :( How do we approach building a VR sound with stereo and mono clips?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Hi Kaczorefx. Unfortunately, you cannot do this. Premiere's current support of ambisonics requires true, 4-channel ambi-x encoded files. There are some third-party apps I've seen out there that can take mono sources and create the ambi-x files for you, and from there you could bring into PPRO and adjust via the Ambi-panner. But as of today, it's more of a 'pass-thru' workflow, not an authoring workflow. Hope we see that in future releases (as this initial support is only V1; it will be improved/augmented over time for sure). Thanks for watching.

Correct. You might try actually creating a straight stereo mix. TBH, as someone who's been recording/creating binaural experimental tracks for more than two decades...I've always found that in general (unless the focus is 100% audio-based) it tends to distract from other content (in this case, the video). If you've got narration, it might make sense to create a stereo mix and play a bit with some stereo expansion/panning (in the sound design) to simulate a wider sound field, but ultimately giving greater focus to the visual. I did a recent MakeIt episode on VR (which you can find on the Adobe Creative Cloud RU-vid channel) and our Director of VR tech actually made a similar comment (that the stereo audio experience as part of a larger VR/360 video story can actually be *more* compelling). Food for thought.

When you enter the export dialogue from Premiere Pro from your VR sequence, choose 'Waveform Audi'o as your format. It comes up with a default stereo preset. Click on the AUDIO tab (just below) and switch it to the appropriate number of channels (in this case, 4 channel) and adjust sample rate accordingly (if need be). This will create a 4-channel AMBI WAV file for you.

hey im bit confused by term that used in this kind of audio, what i see is that Ambisonic audio and spatial Audio is the same thing or it has any different?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 6 лет назад
Hey Erik. Yes, both of these terms are being used (in reference to 360/VR) and it can get a bit confusing. Ambisonic is a type of spatial audio; there are many different types (including the classic 'Binaural', one of the first spatial audio types). but ultimately, if you're talking about audio in the context of 360/VR, the accompanying audio *can* be spatial, and the currently supported type of spatial audio is Ambisonic.
@erikellilo
@erikellilo 6 лет назад
wow i didnt expect you reply so fast, thanks man one more question, so that mean is the ambisonic itself need more than one mic acrchitecture, it can't be done in monaural mode?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 6 лет назад
To properly capture ambisonic (4-channel) audio, it *can* be done with 4 mono sources, but then you need an app/plugin that can essentially 'assemble' the four channels into an interleaved audio file (ie, AMBI-X format, if going to Premiere Pro). There areseveral multi-channel/multi-pattern microphones out there (which will do it all in one) but if you're going to use 4 mono sources, they need to be converted to an ambisonic format for use in Premiere or elsewhere.

Hi, Jason! Is there any method to view video with spatial audio in offline mode? If so, what render settings to use in premiere? (Sorry for my english)
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Outside of using a 3rd party software player, the best/easiest way to do it is to upload to RU-vid and view it there. You can obviously make it unlisted (so it isn't public). I typically do this to check/make sure the spatial audio is working properly against the video.
@rooftoprecordingstudio5492
@rooftoprecordingstudio5492 7 лет назад
Maybe question wasn't correctly. I mean how to use 360 video with spatial audio without youtube uploading and show it using a 3rd party software player. We tried to use different players, but spatial audio doesn't work correctly. But after uploading on youtube, this video works correctly. We need to view directly from laptop. (ex. exhibition)

Unfortunately, this can't be done in Premiere Pro yet and I don't have any other player suggestions. Hopefully we'll see this very functionality you're asking for coming to Premiere Pro *very* soon :)

P.S. -- how to determine which kind of Ambisonic, Binaural, or Quadrophonic content we have...order number, etc? I followed this Tut and when uploaded to Samsung VR, we ended up with only one audio stream in left ear. We ended up being featured but had to resort to stereo after all the hard work. I had the same nightmare issue using FB's own encoder and FFMPEG, the most unfriendly open-source, ever. Any suggestions from you, if you can, would be great. Thank you.
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Not sure what Samsung's VR site requires. The ambisonic format we're able to pass thru (and deliver) is a high-order, 4-channel variation of ambisonics. This is the current standard on RU-vid (FB prefers an 8-channel variation) with audio delivered as AAC, 4-chan, 48k @ 512Kbps. Make sure you don't have anything like the Binaural panner enabled when you export (in Premiere's track mixer), and be sure to choose the proper preset (in H264) that includes ambisonic audio. Hope that helps.
@AlejandroFranceschi
@AlejandroFranceschi 7 лет назад
Yeah, I was quite careful to follow their directions and template correctly. For RU-vid, I followed this step-by-step and ended up with Ambisonic audio export from Media Encoder, only to have RU-vid "switch" to one channel about 5 min. in to our short film (IDK what happened there). FB seemed to work OK, but their encoder process does not have examples for Audition (hint, hint). Loading the Ambisonic to Samsung VR on "AutoDetect" during upload (instead of making selection), in the Ambisonic format they say to submit, also resulted in one channel only (everything is "compressed" to one .WAV file with multiple channels?). We sadly had to resort to stereo only for our 360 presentation. We're definitely looking forward to further updates from Adobe on "preset" formats, as we simply wanted to mux the pro spatial audio file we got, with our footage. Thanks for all your help and suggestions, and we're staying tuned!

Thanks for the video, very informative! It helped unlock a lot about 360 in Premiere for me. I followed your video and edited together 2x 360 video tracks and 2x Spatial audio tracks from the Zoom H2n. All seemed to work well and the 4 channels show up in the audio meters etc. I also then had a third track of music as stereo sound. When I export and upload to youtube the sound is not spatial as I look around. Does the mixed in stereo track mess things up? Thanks for any help you can provide.
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Keep in mind it takes quite a bit of time for RU-vid to deliver the ambisonic sound (sometimes several hours, depending on length of the video); the stereo audio itself shouldn't have messed things up, but you can also add a Binaural Panner effect to the track (assuming your stereo audio is on a 4-channel adaptive track, which you should have in your sequence) and you'll be able to move/reposition it in the spatial domain.

Hi Jason! First of all, thanks for making the big effort your videos imply. They are great and very useful! I have a question though (and also have the feeling that /Kaczorefx asked about it too but I am not quite sure). I'll try anyways! I am working with some 360 Gear footage + 4 different channels recorded with 4 different Sennheiser ew 100 G2 (basically, interviews) and I am trying to place each sound source where each interviewee was BUT whenever I pan the fader of the Binauralizer, following the same coordinates that the Program window is showing to me, Premiere applies the same value to the rest of the clips, regardless of the track they are in... For instance: Clip #4CH006I.wav is in the audio track N.2 so when I pan it to -say, -77.1º the previous one on the timeline (#4CH009I.wav in audio track N.3) changes to the same coordinate instead of staying in 31º as I panned it before... Any hint? I hope I explained myself properly so you can get what I mean! Thanks in advance and greetings from Switzerland!
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
I think I need more info here. Are you try to use the binaural panner with mono sources (not ambisonic 4-channel sources)?
@mujer12balas
@mujer12balas 7 лет назад
Hi Jason! Thanks a lot for replying (in both SM channels! :-) ). I really appreciate your time and effort! In response to your question, yes and I have the feeling that is the origin of the problem. I recorded four interviews with Sennheiser ew 100 G2 lavalier mics and would like to place each sound source where they originally were (the four interviewees were sitting around the camera) Is that an option or I should have used for instance a Sennheiser Ambeo? Unfortunately, I only have access to it now so not much to be done. Thanks again!
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Hi again, Lucia:) Yes, the issue is that (Premiere) currently can't reposition mono sources in the ambisonic/spatial environment. Ideally, you *would* want to use something like the Sennheiser Ambeo; however, if you had access to Sennheiser's VST/AU plugin (I forgot the name now), you would (theoretically) be able to create an ambi-x/4-channel/hi-order ambisonic file from your mono sources, and bring *that* into Premiere. I'm not sure how the positioning would be affected exactly--but perhaps it could work. May be worth a try.
@mujer12balas
@mujer12balas 7 лет назад
Yeah, that seems to be the way... I tried but it's not easy at all though. When I export it and test it, I notice I fail in sth but can't detect what exactly... Def a big obstacle for someone with not so much sound skills. I just started trying now with Reaper and the Facebook 360 Spatial Workstation but it's giving me a huge headache and not great results so last option left seems to be Pro Tools which probably will make things tougher... Argh, *sigh* ! Anyways, thanks Jason! Believe it or not, your tutorial helped me! I look forward to your next one! ;-)
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Yeah, I imagine the ProTools experience won't offer much more than you've already experienced (and possibly be another headache!) but worth a try in any case. Thank you so much, and I'm glad I could offer help in some way:)

@@jasonlevinevideo I ended up exporting out a separate 4 Channel AAC.wav Audio Pass and a separate No audio Video pass then combining the 2 together inside of Facebook 360 Spatial Workstation for final export. That seemed to work out well enough for first order Ambisonic Video. Thanks for getting back so quickly as well, I appreciate it. P.S. Beside The Final Export being an issue and outdated, This is a really Awesome tutorial. Thanks Again.

How does the two channel H2N get ambisonic from two channels of audio? It's like the old matrix quad formats! It's not going to work well....
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
It actually does 4-channel recording (it's got 5 little microphones on-board); but in the end, we're ultimately listening to a binaural-styled audio decode (once paired w/360 video) but it's impressive enough. Definitely not as sketchy as the matrixed quad stuff (tho admittedly, I've got a few of those old LPs, decoded into multichannel stems...and they aren't half-bad, but not great! lol)

This is outdated now (after March 2018). Audition includes native Ambisonic support into the dedicated .amb container, which then should be dynamically linked with Premiere timelines.
@Haririsoon
@Haririsoon 6 лет назад
How do you get the binauralizer effect in in the first place? I can't drag it onto anything.
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 6 лет назад
You must have an adaptive (4-channel) track with an audio clip placed into it; the audio clip can be mono, stereo or ambisonic. If you're looking to test/audition the binaurailzed output before export, you should be able to place the Binaurailzer onto the Master channel (via the FX Insert in the Track Mixer). Again, your session must have a 4-channel master channel; if you used one of the VR/Ambisonic presets to start your sequence, it will have the correct configuration.

Does Premiere Pro's ambisonic meta data work with Facebook 360 video?
@jasonlevinevideo
@jasonlevinevideo 7 лет назад
Hi CJ. My understanding is that FB is using higher-order Ambisonics, leveraging eight channels rather than four. We're currently supporting the four channel version (which is what Google/YT standardized on) so I really don't know. My guess is it's probably not yet compatible...but this is only version one of our initial ambisonics support, so stay tuned. More to come in future updates for sure.
