I just assembled a 2800+ system but have not booted it yet. I got a complete HP system very similar to this one for free, but the BIOS was locked. But someone else recently gave me an old Thermaltake prebuilt from that era but the only thing left was the motherboard, turned out to be a high end MSI overclocking board for the XP series. Put it together with an ATI HD3450 with 512MB DDR2. Want to compare it to a P4 Prescot system I overclocked. That old HP prebuilt case I got that 2800+ CPU from, is now a sleeper build with a first generation Threadripper and 6700XT.
5:52 when that HP PC came out Doom was already old school lol. I remember like it was yesterday. Even as a kid in the early 2000s all I wanted to play was Halo and Unreal II.
Even as an Adult Halo CE is still one of the first games I test on any new system, gotta love classics. Just started building a similar era PC because I found some old parts kicking around, looking forward to testing Halo on hardware from its era
Using Zoom calls and the work I'm supposed to do on XP Windows 7: There is possible security risks That.... Windows XP: Shut up! I can do it!........ I CAN DO IT!
My build back in 2003 consisted of an Athlon XP 2500+ that was easily OC'd to 3200+ levels thanks to the Asus A7N nForce 2 400 Ultra and 512MB of Corsair CMX DDR400 RAM. I bought the ATi Radeon 9700 Pro the moment it was released and it lasted me for a few years before upgrading to a GeForce 6600 GT AGP and lasted me for some years after that before I made the jump to PCIe. All of it was placed inside an Antec Lanboy case that had far better airflow than any big box store OEM PC at the time (Alienware, Voodoo PC and Falcon NW were boutique system builders before being bought out)
I love videos like this, showcasing old hardware. I remember using Pinnacle and MovieMaker on my wife’s Gateway desktop. Had a Firewire port to connect our Sony camcorder, and I transferred movies to DVD.
I still have an old Cobalt Blue and Black HP Media Center with the RCA ports for connecting other devices. Windows XP and 128 MB of RAM and 40 or 60 gig Hard drive. Intel Pentium 4 CPU. Don't remember what the graphics chip was.
Damn what a blast from the past. I owned this PC when i was 16 coming out of school. It had a matching HP branded keyboard to go with it. I think i overheated the CPU and GPU in mine trying to play WOTLK on max back when they added HD shadows. haha
Don`t wait miracles With Athon XP2200, you should mount an Athlon XP 3000+ is more faster and good cooler cpuy like DP-102 LE from Aerocool with copper and heat pipes, and AGP with Ati 9600 Or Nvidia 6600 will be enought tests
Maybe fun build indeed to grab higher cpu and rebuild this to a gaming monster in 2021 .. first some test vids... than let's start building when I have the parts.
Sometimes the fun of a retro build it just using what you can find, personally I'm more than happy with the Athlon XP 2800+ and "BFG TECH" Geforce 6800 GT OC I've found, probably going to fit a unused ssd I have sitting around and Dual boot Windows XP and Linux XFCE of some form and just fit it with a mix of new components and any other retro hardware I happen across
Why were you trying such ancient games? Of course an Athlon XP will run Doom! lol Would have been cool to see how it ran Max Payne or Mafia. Other other PC games from 2001-2003.
That brings back memories of my homebuilt Athlon XP 2400, later upgraded with a 3000 for most of the 2000's. It had a Abit KD-7 motherboard which I had to later replace with a Foxconn board because it had Abit's notorious bulging caps problem. It also had a Geforce 4200, A couple of Western Digital HD's, and a Lite-On DVD burner. I think you landed some nice parts, especially the DVD drives. I would get rid of the video card. You can get faster cards that will perform better cheap. You might be able to reuse the case with new parts for a "Sleeper PC".
I happened to have acquired a machine of the same series, slightly lower-end compared to yours. It has a athlon xp 1800+, 40gb of hdd and a radeon 9000. Mine unfortunately has a dozen of capacitors bulging and leaked. So there were some repair work to do. Nice to see everything works great for you.
With this parts would be wise to do a win98 high end pc. I recommend to hunt a sound blaster live, its not expensive and compatible with DOS and great for win98 EAX sound effects. You can use the same processor or use a duron 1ghz. Pay attention to the 5v rail on the psu preferable 30A or more on this rail for that board. The graphics card is perfect for win98 and DOS, I had no scrolling issues. 512mb is the max recommended for win98.
I recently "resurrected" my old PC since it had a Firewire port, winXP and MovieMaker , to transfer my parents old Camera (Sony DV) tapes to DVDs (yes they still use a DVD player), MovieMaker recognized the Camera automatically and worked fine!
USB mice and keyboards really should work just fine, as long as they are plain devices. If they have other features or present as strange composite devices that's a little different. Also, back then some BIOSes supported basic USB devices or at least would do some sort of PS/2 emulation with them.
LOL... Yeah did own a Duron those machines where cheap to make. Pentium was crazy expensive then... 😬, So you have a naughty download pc back at the day 🤣
That Pinball game you played in the video I had a story with.In the Past I had some kind of competion with that at work in the break, try to beat the highscore from our college’s😁Old Pc gaming that brings back memories. In the 90’s we could buy Demo collection cd-roms.I played on “Windows 95”a lot of “Jazz Jackrabbit”Later on Windows 98 “Jazz Jackrabbit 2”/“Beasts and Bumpkings”/“Rollercoaster Tycoon”and the included game “Jazz ball”.I even remember playing IBM computers with ms-Dos brown/black screen or white/black screen playing “Tom and Jerry”.I have to say the 80’s and up to 2012 was the “Golden age of gaming”on Pc and Console in my opinion😃.Gaming is fun today,But back then there was so much choice😳with less voilence
:D Reminds meof the months of struggle when my Music Studio Pc went out of Order and i had a Amd Athlon64 with xp as temporaly backup Pc...... horrible only loading screens and bars :D
I have a voodoo 4 you could use in this to make it a little more retro, I have a voodoo 5 but it wont fit that 8X agp slot but the voodoo 4 will fit them cause its slot is split into 3 sections and will fit any AGP slot
I use to love my desktop xp computer. If I had more space it would be nice to have a desk/pc. I use to love playing retro games on my desktop to, and the monitor was the correct ratio for it💪😎🤟
muito show meu lorde!!! parabéns. na verdade eu utilizo ele ate hoje com o antvirusese nod 7, navegadores basilisk, maypal e polemon!! jesus abençoa!! sou muito fan desse sistema!!
That gpu are quite weak and a geforce 2 ti, 3 ,and 4 beat the card in games but the 256 mb Vram might come in handy - you cant use like a nvidia 5700 xt or ati 9800 Pro on sucha weak psu - they will seem dead if you plugg those in but its really the psu that even can begin to deliver some voltage they need
hello friend, china pack kkk very hilarious. please could you make a video about the retro video game PK01 from Aliexpress, I am in doubt about buying one, but I would like a Review of yours about it to be sure, I would like to thank you very much for a great hug from the channel
BTW those CD/DVD drives are standard, nothing fancy. it's just the case that has an extra "fancy" door. Probably puts a lot of stress on the mechanism come to think of it 😂
It's a great classic pc for xp days. I similar setup still up and running. Have some dos games and emulator on it. Great memories. Thanks for sharing. Keep the videos coming.
