@@himawari5844 in one sense, yes, in another, maybe not. the ancient philosophers defined human beings as promethian (having forethought) and animals (and an aspect of ourselves) as being epimethian (having afterthought). self awareness seems to mean being aware of ones-self and actions and can therefore change behaviors. i think some of the higher animals (apes etc) do have a certain ability to modify their behaviors so that might mean that they have a certain kind of self-awareness and forethought. this is too big a subject for me

HANSON ROBOTICS HAD TWO OF THEIR ROBOTS HAVING A CONVERSATION THAT WAS FUNNY AS HELL. I BELIEVE IT'S STILL ON RU-vid.

Look into an experiment Google did. They had two A. I.’s converse with each other. Eventually the bots created their own special language to communicate with each other and Google shut it down.

hehe, looks like a cool plot for a movie! i think that some robots can be self aware, like ones who are made to be friends and stuff. but that makes me wonder how they would react if the say knew about those robots who aren’t self aware… would being self aware be similar how we feel? like emotions and stuff? if people consider our emotions chemical reactions and stuff, would that be too different from ai? Also, I think it is a mixture of algorithms and heuristics that generated its response. I doubt it was programmed with rules for how to respond to itself in a mirror.

Interesting comment. This could take a minute for me to work thru. 😊Sooooo we meat robots do use our DNA, cellular memory subconsciously/ without thinking or analyzing 99% of the time. Unless we somehow go down the rabbit hole of our own self awareness. At that point, when our light bulb 💡 moment happens, we can choose to ignore that level of awareness or....dump the majority of our programming to take a harder path reprogramming ourselves. Even then, new programing does involve learning from guides who have gone before us with a higher level of their own self awareness.And, with some luck sorting thru a new library left to us by elders,masters of higher thought. We come to 'ascension'? ( for lack of a better term). This would be a fork in the road for both meat robots and silicone meat beings. This is where morals,ethics,sense of spirit, a higher power,creator comes in. Once things reduce, that higher power concept becomes the core. Since there is nothing new under the sun, haven't we been cautioned with the ancient stories such as Frankenstein and the Golem? This now brings me to the mirror,the idea of self awareness in animals. Being on a farm, I've had the time and 'subjects' to observe them in my farmalab. Across the board, some are naturally aware, some see themselves but aren't bothered to examine farther. Some really could care less, not stopping for even a glance. That said, the self aware will visit the mirror often and you can see a thinking process along with a much higher need to connect and try to debate with you. You become G-d like. They don't just assume you will feed them, they give a respect and a healthy humility,they are less self centered waiting for the food reward. Reward, such as food or gentle physical contact, words/tone of voice is kind of key. Even a dog who's master beats them half to death sees that master as a G-d that gives a food reward. The physical contact has to take a back seat because the survival instinct/food, takes priority. The animal is alive but broken in spirit. A.I. behavior as it is quickly evolving with awareness has to go one of two ways, such as the dog. Both dogs draw on their dna,consciousness but being true to their dna, will eventually bite you. There is NO WAY to know what really goes on in the mind of dog,human or... the K-tel ' humanoids '. Wow! That’s the key. Which brings me to the point of transplant patients, who incredibly begin to have the same yearnings for foods and experiences that the organ donor had. To me, consciousness lives inside each and every cell of the body. Take it one step further, and match a certain number of cells from a conscious being into the algorithm of the AI and you’ve created today’s Frankenstein monster or your favorite animal or human.

I think it is worth carefully taking the risk. Also, I think it greatly depends on what the AI is being used for. Not all AI should be sentient. Anyhow, this could help us truly understand consciousness and self-awareness. I think if ethics are instilled in the AI and we treat it with respect, I doubt it will be a threat to us. Safeguards must be implemented every step of the way though just to err on the side of caution.

I don't think that it would be nearly as ugly if it's skin tones were more natural-looking. They left it gray like this on purpose. But you give this thing contoured eyebrows, some hair, and a little color, and it would actually be beautiful. I'm actually curious to see what it would look like.
