In this conversation, John sits down with journalist and author Peter Hitchens to discuss the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. This conversation was filmed on the 26th of October.
While Hitchens labels himself as 'pro-Israel' he argues against their current course of action as both politically and militarily disastrous. He also contends that being anti-Zionist does not equate to being anti-Semitic. Moreover, Hitchens is a self-proclaimed 'free speech absolutist' which he discusses in the context of anti-Semitic speech and the ongoing political challenges facing Britain.
Hitchens currently writes for The Mail on Sunday and has contributed to numerous other newspaper outlets. He has published various books, including The Abolition of Britain, The Rage Against God, The War We Never Fought, The Phoney Victory, and his most recent book, A Revolution Betrayed: How Egalitarians Wrecked the British Education System.

Human nature is such that we naturally segregate ourselves to be with like minded people or people who look most like us. There's a whole spectrum of social segregation that happens everywhere. Some cultures want a very monolithic society, such as the Taliban. Everyone knows their proper place and it's uniform. Trouble is...individuals are not equal in any way biologically, intellectually, or in what motivates them most. I suppose you can force conformism which is what makes some people feel more comfy.

Multiculturalism has been an accepted situation by the British population but isn’t it one sided? Immigrants who have escaped their unwanted country fly the very flags of the country they have turned their back on. Why aren’t they staying in that same country and support it and make it grow? No they want a quick boost to their way of living but do not want to belong to their new country.

Wouldn't you think that people who emigrate from a country that was wrecked by colonialism or nato might have remaining family members who still live there and that they would like the conditions to improve in their homeland.... If the situation does get better and becomes a trend, they might move back home. @landofthesilverpath5823
@landofthesilverpath5823 7 месяцев назад
@ricardoroberto7054 It's racial replacement. We have low birth rates, but instead of tackling that issue by supporting family formation, by building a culture that values children and tells people they should have them, we instead get levels of immigration that are replacing indigenous populations. It's a form of genocide because it is literally altering and ultimately destroying the unique gene pool of Britain and every other white country outside a few in Eastern Europe. Who will care about our ancestors and forefathers when no one looks like them, when no one is descended from them? No one will have British values then. Values come from a people, not the other way around. People like Hitchens know this, deep down, but they lack the moral courage to say it out loud, and even worse, attack others that do to cover their arses.

And as per scratches and punches..there is a recorded evidence of evidently Arabs always attacking Jews that remiand in the land after the majority was expelled by muslims. This is just a short overview of " YOU" punching and scratching first " While there were antisemitic incidents before the 20th century, during this time antisemitism in the Arab world increased greatly. During the 1930s and the 1940s several Jewish communities in the Arab world suffered from pogroms.[4] The status of Jews in Arab countries deteriorated further at the onset of the Arab-Israeli conflict.[4] After the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the Palestinian exodus, the creation of the State of Israel and Israeli victories during the wars of 1956 and 1967 were a severe humiliation to Israel's opponents-primarily Egypt, Syria, and Iraq.[7]However, by the mid-1970s the vast majority of Jews had left Arab and Muslim countries, moving primarily to Israel, France, and the United States.[8] The reasons for the exodus are varied and disputed.[8] By the 1980s, according to historian Bernard Lewis, the volume of antisemitic literature published in the Arab world, and the authority of its sponsors, seemed to suggest that classical antisemitism had become an essential part of Arab intellectual life, considerably more than in late 19th- and early 20th-century France and to a degree that has been compared to Nazi Germany.[9] The rise of political Islam during the 1980s and afterwards provided a new mutation of Islamic antisemitism, giving the hatred of Jews a religious component.[2]"

I don’t think that Hitchens’ argument about Enoch Powell makes sense. First he says that Powell’s “rivers of blood” speech in 1969 was counter-productive, scaring the political class off thinking sensibly about mass immigration and agreeing to reduce it. Then he says that actually the level of immigration for the 24 years before and the 28 years after Powell’s speech was perfectly acceptable. Then he says that immigration only rose to unacceptable levels with the 1997 Blair government - when Powell was 85, hadn’t been an MP for ten years, and would die one year later. Taken together, these three statements fit better with the idea that Powell’s speech, and the popular reaction to it, prevented the political class from going “full Blair” much earlier. Blair was only able to raise net immigration levels from 40,000 per year to 200,000 per year when Powell was gone from British politics.

It's true that Israel would have had more global sympathy had it swown more restraint towards Gaza, and yet Peter is wrong, as he fails to take into account the middle-eastern arab mentality. It seems he had in mind something like the Swiss army instead. A moderate "intelligent" response from Israel's side is sure to be iterpreted by surrounding hostile arab parties as a sign of weakness, and it's prone to encourage them to venture into a yet another Hamas-Isis inspired venture, thinking they can get away with it for cheap. It's not a speculation, this is what has happened every time that the moderate entities on both sides have attempted to negotiate a peaceful solution of the conflict. Gaining popularity among the West in the long run is hardly a counterweight to the immediate danger that it would create to Israel. Peter also fails to grasp the extent of the trauma experienced by the Israelis. After the government/army/intelligence failed to defend its borders the people of Israel need to be shown proof that the state has regained control of their security. Otherwise Israelis will be doomed to live in fear that a similar thing could happen again anywhere, at any given moment and without warning. So as bad as it may look from the outside, a forceful and terrible response from Israel is in fact the intelligent and civilized think to do. Regretfully it won't take long before Europe will learn the same lesson, the Arab demographic growth within it is like bubbling vulcano that thakes full advantage of the Europeans' moderate disposition in order to take over. The vulcano may be dormant at the moment, true, but the question is not wether it will erupt or not, the question is only when.

Within the first 5 mins their is a lie hitch just nods along to “we forget they are the only democracy in the region”. Can I ask the fair minded judgement of even the most boastful Hitchens fans, did they view the apartheid in South Africa the same way? When they sterilise Ethiopian Jews, when the Israelis don’t let you walk down certain streets if you’re coloured etc. how is this continually being heralded as this perfect democracy? It’s shown time and time again it loves lying too, example even recently shooting the journalist in the head then blaming it on Islamic jihad, only for cctv to make them admit oh yeah we did make that up. I don’t get how this isn’t seen as a pure oppression of people over the last 75 years where Hamas is the obvious resistance force built out of decades of oppression. May I also mention Bibi openly bragged about funding Hamas yet somehow this is deemed as ok? How is this not talked about? Seems like a hugely overlooked bit of the story that, oh yeah those people who committed oct 7 attack was funded by isreal because Bibi knows more disruption in the area means he can keep taking Palestinians land.

Usually agree with Mr PHitchens when he speaks but here (unsurprisingly) am sorry to see him apply the same double standards that most Western commentators apply when talking about Israel. For example, he speaks of the fanaticism with which seemingly civilised Palestinians hate the Israelis, as if fanaticism of an even higher degree is found among the settler colonialists who arrive to Israel even today as well as among senior politicians/civil servants in Israel. It is impossible that Mr Hitchens doesn't know this, but his bias blinds him. Listen to, for example, the present Israeli ambassador to Britain (lying through her teeth, and here, another Israeli diplomat: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3BjRyeRZGGk.html

Peter Hitchens' position--that Israel should have responded differently to Oct. 7--is based on a psychological insight discussed by Jacques Lacan years ago, when he wrote about the nature of "charity." A person is able to feel charitable about a victim of misfortune or violence, as long as the victim is down-and-out and wallowing in misery. However, if the victim rises out of his misery and starts to fight for himself, charity is no longer possible The question is: must Israel continue to endure raids by Hamas in order to secure sympathy from Western democracies? Think before you answer.

I am a Palestinian , and I believe I can sum up the fears and aspirations of our people in a way that relates to western thinking better than most of my country men. May be some good will come out of my words to follow: Let me say that the Palestinians want iron clad guarantees that they will not endure the same trauma of deportation , which is similar in our psyche to what the Jews of Europe had endured during the holocaust. The Jews of Europe saw in the establishment of a state of their own in our country .. Palestine as a guarantee of the holocaust never happening again. The Palestinians see in a viable state based on 1967 lines as that guarantee of the Nakbah never happening again. Absent a one state solution ,, a confederation between Palestinians and Israelites, that is the only way we can prevent another Nakbah. We have to have a formal agreement that spells out the true rights of Palestinians to all the land between the river Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea. Whereby we have full sovereignty over 1967 borders and right of permanent residency in 1948 lands aka Israel ,, and the Israelies would enjoy the same right of full residency in the 1967 lands aka Judea & Samaria aka state of Palestine. Security matters can be accommodated by USA and UK Europe over watch of ports etc . To prevent the flow of arms

@@drwhatson Well it's those kind of people that want to silence everyone which is the issue that Peter is talking about. If you're not that kind of person, continue to allow them to speak and be the better person and engage in the debate whilst staying calm and assertive. You won't change their mind obviously, but you'll expose them for how insane their beliefs are.

Peter is absolutely right to call out the supposed "pro free speech" right for hypocritically demanding the imprisonment of those who say things they disagree with (i.e., supporting Palestine), not least because it will embolden anti free speech leftists when it's their turn to punish speech they disagree with. He's also remarkably nuanced in his analysis of the situation in Israel/Gaza. He's right to point out that Israel's mass bombing campaign will be ineffective, bloody, and self-defeating. It will fail to destroy Hamas, undermine support for Israel abroad, and weaken the case for an Israeli state, not least because -- very reasonably -- many will see the bloody and disproportionate response as validating criticisms of Israel as a colonial enterprise. Like the US response to 9/11, the overreaction will do more harm than the initiating act itself - which does not mean the act was not thoroughly evil in every way. Israel needed to respond. It did not need to respond like this.

What do you mean ”like this”? Do you think they are bombing civilians on purpose. The IDF is trying to root out terrorists. What are they supposed to do, walk in nicely and say ”pardon me…”?

I respect Hitchens but he is speaking only as an outsider with no personal skin in the game. Only someone who did not experience the horror of Oct. 7th on their own people can continually bring up the issue of world opinion at this moment. No one in Israel is concerned with what other nations think of us at this moment just as I imagine Brits dealing with Nazi air raids cared little of what random people in Bolivia or Thailand were thinking about their response.

Israel should've responded ”more intelligently" to the barbarism of Oct. 7, says Hitchens. And how would that have been, exactly? Has he a historical precedent of such a response that succeeded?

He speaks with a deep british accent, so he is clearly more enlightened than the rest of us mortals who think justice for slaughtered jews and a show of strength is something that might work. Things are really much simpler than this bloviating coward, make them out to be: you get more of the behavior you tolerate. If Hamas is not made an example of Israel will be perceived as weak and attacked again.

I like Hitchens but I am cognizant of the fact his family has Jewish roots, so he may, or may not, be biased/sympathetic to the Zionist cause. Anti-semetism is a problem and, ignoring the fact that Palestinians are also semites, I think we need to talk about anti-goy views in the media etc. It seems that many people are trying to foster white self-hatred or white guilt in order to advance a particular agenda. I don't fully understand what that agenda is. If all they want is subsidies for Israel and to be able to manipulate access into the elite schools in the West etc I guess it wouldn't be so bad. But it doesn't seem like a good one if you care about white people or the West in general.

65 percent of Palestinians support Hamas, but that amount has increased since October 7th. Not only do Hamas use Gazan citizens as human shields, but many Palestinians put themselves in harm's way to help Hamas. A recent video shows a father saying that he was proud that his child was killed to make Israel look bad. They sacrificed their own children to protect Hamas.

He is plain wrong about Powell. Sad to hear his cool rationality deserts him on that matter. Power was possessed if a very fine mind, a depth of education wisdom and objectivity rarely found. His observations should have underpinned immigration policy, then the replication of a a rickety and now very violent version of a dying global empire in a tiny impoverished little island group off Europe could have been avoided. As has been achieved in wiser societies, and for obvious reasons that Powell rightly highlighted.
