But I think the full truth is far more complicated. Xinjiang region had terrorist activities and attacks in the past. Bad actors from outside china have strong interests in separational movements. China reacted strong. On the one side with "re-education" measures on the other side with sustainable investments in infrastructure. Streets, bridges, housing, economy. The living standard in the region is way up. Look what the US did in Afghanistan (then in Irak). They did start with a strong hand as well but completely failed to build something sustainable for the people. The mess in the whole region is bigger than ever. Billions wasted. Hundred-thousands killed (mostly civilians). Yes, China DID violate human rights and deserves to be accused of this. But so far I have not seen any better example of solving the threat of religious motivated extremism in this region with a sustainable outlook to the future.

I agree with you. I used to admire America twenty years ago, but no more. They use underhand methods to smear the reputation of China (Xinjiang). They preach democracy but they themselves do not walk the talk. They fear the global rise of China and to be overtaken by them.
