I seen them in 1973 I went there with my oldest sister I was 13 years old, Renzie park outside Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, great start of my teenage years 😊 they were great 😊
I just stumbled upon this gem. I saw them for the 1st time in March of 1973 at Penn State University. I have seen them probably 20 times since. We go every time they come through the Pittsburgh area. They still sound fabulous heading into their 70s.
How many did you see with Dan peek still there. I rember learning my first acoustic guitar songs to their America cassette tape that I still have. "Never found the time ' was my favourite to play. Still my favorites, but I think they just weren't the same as a duo.
First time I've heard 'The Sea of Destiny' and I thought I'd heard everything from America as they were the soundtrack and sight track to my teenage years and youth and rest of life... Such a lovely song - why on earth isn't it on an album? The photos are great, too. Why did they have to age? Why did we have to age?
Ive always believed the idea that age begets wisdom/maturity is more a subjective thing thats exaggerated to cope with aging than actual effort to get better. Ive also believed that innocence is more imposed onto children than is naturally expressed by them.
@@jordan-xe2yb Yep. I think age numbers are a perverted overused form of horoscopy. What we define as "youth/childhood" is more a cultural thing than a biopsychological default. Im sick and tired of society assuming that young people have to be innocent simpletons. Kids should be allowed to be somber and worldly beings. The modern world would be much better if adults didnt waste their own intellectual desires on whitewashing the world to children. You wouldnt whine so much about "kids these days" being "too frail". It would also be great if adults, especially men, stopped using their physical seniority as a moral license. For gods sake use your brain and sense of empathy instead of your age. Not everything you dislike is "newfangled nonsense".
Great video! America is one of the greatest groups in rock history. It blows my mind that they have not been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame yet. If anyone is interested, do what I did by writing to the RRHOF and casting your vote for their induction! The address is easy to look up as they are located in NY City!
I think I have read somewhere that the artists have to stay active and selling in the music industry for 25 straight years to qualify for RRHOF. I so love America for their harmonies, songs and guitars!
so SO SO MUCH BETTER and truly authentic America sound IMHO with Dan and his magical high harmonies, acoustic guitars only, magic bass riffs from Calvin “Fuzzy” Samuels & David Dickey, et al. compared to the modern “wall of sound” rocking shows they’ve been doing in their more recent shows over the past 25+ years. Even Gerry’s voice, a little less refined and a bit more raw sounds better here as well. They are my absolute favorites and having been mimic’ing their guitars and songs for 50+ years, this is definitely the show I’d like to have seen and heard. thank you for posting the audio!! wonder if there is any video from this performance.
It's probable that this was actually recorded at the BBC Paris Studios on 25th November 1971 and broadcast 30th November 1971. That's where the vast majority of BBC In Concerts were recorded. Also, John Peel refers to the track Horse With No Name in a fashion that suggests he is introducing this to the world, explaining that it is on the LP and the maxi-single, which would have been forthcoming at this point. By the 25th March, the maxi-single had just left the UK charts after a 3 month spell, having peaked at #3, so it would have been in no need for any sort of introduction / explanation at that time.
Saw them at least 30 times with Dan and another 20 plus w/o Dan. My favorites were with the line up of Gerry ,Dewey Da,. The late great David Dickey and Willie. Just my humble opinion.
100%. you are so lucky to have seen and heard them play in this raw format rather than the overproduced shows that I’ve been to with everything over-driven and over electrified. they are always good, but this original band with these acoustic guitars and this sound engineering is epic.
Nice. I think soft rock is underrated in its profundity. Oeople always think rock is supposed to be about how loud and harsh you on electric guitars with growling vocals and edgy storyscapes.
I'm just wondering why Beckley's Sea of destiny have never included in any of their three first albums, cause it's a very goood one. by the way !Happy Birthday Gerry today september the 12th 2021!
