Today was a special day as we brought Haga, our American Akita to the ocean in Kittery, Maine. It was a perfect day to bring an Akita to the beach as there weren't many people around, and the weather was beautiful.
Our American Akita, Haga, loved every minute of his beach day, he played with some other dogs, chased waves, and got all muddy in the sand just like a good puppy should!
We had to wait until Haga was at least a year old before we could let him play in the water, because of lepto, which is a bacteria that can be found in natural bodies of water, and is dangerous to dogs, especially young dogs. While there is a vaccine for lepto, many Akitas do not tolerate the vaccine well, so we opted not to get it.
