Her desription of SA is perfect, absolutely perfect. SA is influenced by both American and British cultures but because of its multitude of cultures, it has its own unique feel even outside the American and British influences. The fact that the majority is black creates that uniqueness. She also gave a perfect descrpition of Durban. Durban is black South Africans favourite party and holiday destination. Cape Town is fine but eurocentric, Joburg is cosmopolitan and has an international feel but Durban is the best South African curated city

The Zulus refused to work for the British Colony's Sugar cane plantations , so they shipped thousands of slaves from their colony India! Hence the huge population of Indians in KwaZulu Natal ( KZN) The Dutch brought in Indonesian Slaves from Indonesia their colony to the Cape Colony ( Western Cape) because the Khoi-Khoi groups were seen as uncooperative and rose against the Dutch colonial powers fighting for their land and animals Hence the Cape Town coloured are Cape Malays. Our South African History is complex and sad, and not told much, few focus on the evil Apartheid only

Little bit of history: "The roots of the Indian community in Durban can be traced back to the 19th century, when thousands of Indian labourers were brought to South Africa as indentured workers. These workers were recruited by British colonial authorities to work on sugar plantations, coal mines and railways in Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal)"

Great interview, Dr Asad, thanks! I looove Durban too, they were spot on in the description. I'm a Jo'burger, always have been, always will be- but there's just something about Durban that will always draw me to it. I have to visit it every year, just to go clear my mind! i've travelled overseas, been to the carribean, but Durbs, man, Durbs will forever have my heart- The warmth,The Zulu's, The smell and humidity as you land there(lol), having to watch your back becasue the vervet monkeys are everywhere, ready to steal your food, the nightlife, the indian cuisine, so much goin on there! They're beautiful young couple, i so dont blame them for choosing Durbs! We South African's really love Durbs! pls check out St Lucia too some day- it's really beautiful there- also in KZN

I wish you guys as the diaspora in the home coimg would organize and present your pespective of what SA can be to the rest of Afrika, the whole Afrikan diaspora, and the world to our government. They dont seem to get it. There is a time when our politicians led us but now I feel the are slightly behind the curve and society is actually ahead of them. They dont seem to fully realise what thus great country can be and represents for the black nation. Other than that, much love ❤ and Durban has warm beaches😂😂😂. If you want cold waters go to the Western Cape 😂😂😂😂.
