I just hate that South Africa is set up for foreigners to came here and enjoy what the local people cannot.. Cape town you have the Europeans enjoying the best places..black and colourds are left in the slums..i know indians in their own community tried to open a small business and needed approval .they were turned down few months later You had foreigners opening up a business there.. Honestly this Land we Call South Africa has been giving it's best to people who are not born here ..The ANC has sold the people out ..we need a South Africa where the people get to enjoy the land...Chris Hani Vision Sadly killed by the Very ones in Power today

Hi Ashley! I'm glad to know you love Cape Town. I'm also from Atlanta and I made Cape Town my home over 6 years ago. I can't tell you how much I love living there!!! But, they get their crime statistics from the crime in the townships. You don't want to hang out in the townships because they can be very dangerous. Just FYI. Hi Ashely the reason ur companion was able to recognise and speak other languages is that, South African languages are highly mutually intelligible... A Zulu person understands basic Xhosa A Sotho person understands basic Tswana etc and can have conversation... So u see that u don't have to know all languages U only need Zulu, Sotho and English to survive in South Africa in my opinion 👍

As a black South African, I'm always glad whenever my country is represented well. I'm happy you have found a space for yourself and built a community. I hope more people like you realize there's a lot of opportunity here, and it's not the grotesque place that the media always tries to portray. With that being said, I have to add that one has to be extremely intelligent about how they move and the places they go here. It sounds like your friends were of great help to you. It's important to also note that the white-led Cape Town (and Western Cape) government is extremely apt when it comes to hiding the problems of this city from travelers; problems that affect only black and brown people. Most of the wealth is concentrated in a 15km radius, with houses being strategically built along the main routes to the airport and other tourist destinations to mask the huge disparities in living conditions. You also mention that a lot of wealth from America and Europe is invested in Cape Town. Where is all the wealth and wealth-generating opportunities for black people? Cape Town is surrounded by wine farms. I can bet my left lung that almost 100% of those farms are white-owned. When people speak of racism, they are mostly referring to disparities in wealth, opportunities and access to resources. If businesses are white-owned, I guarantee management is also white, middle management is white, with black faces playing the role of cog and service. You spoke beautifully about having intelligent conversations with South African friends about geo-politics. I got the impression that some of the above issues might have been glossed over. It's important that we foster the right conversations about this place because that will attract the type of minds that can help us fix our issues. I do appreciate the beautiful message you have created for your followers.

Nice video but you seem very impressed with luxury and wealth. You don't seem to spare much thought for the majority of Capetonians, most of whom are poor and deprived, with few opportunities to improve their lives. The tourist areas and even the Cape Town CBD are not indicative of how most people in Cape Town live. Next time, traverse the city and visit the townships and then get back to us.

Of course South Africa will have a lot of luxury... i.e. Cape Town. It hasn't been that long since the British lost their Stranglehold on the country of South Africa and the country was free of deep segregation. What I find more shocking... how much of the history of South Africa is being ignored... especially by those of African descent. Let's start with Shaka Zulu and the Zulu tribe. The history of British colonialism in South Africa is near impalatable! If you think that there's a lap of luxury in Cape Town take a look at the British Monarchy and how much arbulance they have in England. The so-called royalty of England build their principalities on the backs of South Africa and 52 other countries within the continent of Africa... let the truth be told!

This is a weird video. You lived in NY, NY and you didn't see opulence???? How is that even possible? The results of western style capitalism is a universal fact. To not anticipate inequality, i.e., some people living lavish lives while others living in abject poverty is just naive. As a general rule, what I hear about Cape Town is that it is another playground for the rich. That does not mean that it is a good place. Exploitation and inequality is wrong, plain and simple. You will find this to be lived out all over the world (including Africa). Ask yourself this question, how many of the places and services where you spent your money were owned by Black Africans? Ahhhh! Reality.

Locals are mistreated n looked down upon. Thes movements that are calling for CT to exit SA thats furthur colonisation. Restaurants n farms have stoped employing locals but cheap Zimbabwean labour. Those are selfish ugly tendancies. You complain about AAmericans talking about SA you say nothing about rich racist lobbyists who travelled around the world spreading white genocide propaganda around 2018 -2019. The tone of those initial claims is from the bitter non-Capetonians. The fact that it attracts the most tourists, it is the best-run city in SA and the landscape is one of God's greatest pieces of work does get the rest of the country a bit envious. But for every yin there's a yang and the outskirts where the more impoverished areas do have higher crime rates so that part is true, the security is more prevalent when you're around the touristy and urban areas. Side note: Cape Town is part of the Western Cape region, and the beauty stretches beyond Cape Town. Since we are lucky to share two oceans hence two coastlines there is so much more to see further out from the West Coast which is the quiet coast to the East coast where you'll find more tourist attractions as well, from Hermanus all the way to the beautiful Wilderness area (Mossel Bay, George, Knysna).

I am colored American and my husband is german. He has also been there four times and loves it. I just went last November from Cape Town to Joburg and fell in love with the country instantly after drying my tears from the people begging on the street for food and not money. We are really thinking about leaving Germany and retiring to Cape town as our pocketbook will allow it after retirement. One thing you did not mention is if you are renting our buying a house/flat. I love the area of Green Point and Seaview, though those could be more expensive. Which did you choose and what is the cost if you have bought property. Btw we stayed a night in Langa so don´t anyone tell me about dangerous. I´ve lived in TEXAS!

Oh, no. Cape Town being dangerous is NOT propaganda. It has more cases of lethal crime. This means that while in Joburg, someone might mug you and leave. In Cape Town, they will mug you and k*ll you still. These are based on SA stats. But also, it is a great place. It's expensive (only in terms of property), it's a holiday destination for South Africans as well. The wine farms and all, the beaches, the yacht rides, and all. Also, UCT is there as well. Living in Cape Town is a different reality. The townships in those areas are very dangerous and rife with gangsterism. I am a Joburger, and I have been to CPT, and it's great, but the people who live there have a different opinion.

We just left SA, and we really wanted to stay. We got such an education visiting and dispelling the lies told to us in America about Africa. We especially appreciated the education lesson in Aparthied by former Robben Island political prisoner Ntozelizwe Talakumeni when we visited Robben Island. The people I felt were very loving, kind-hearted, and humble. The beauty of Mpumalanga, Blyth Canyon, God's Window, Table Mountain, Hout Beach, was amazing and reflected the spirit of the African people..not the oppressor.

The violence is there. It's not imagined. The poverty and inequality too. But you never have to experience none of those things. The thing about Cape Town is that if you can afford to stay in a safe area then you could live your whole life without experiencing any violence or petty crime. And there are plenty of safe areas there. Probably all the places you have already been to and more. Middle class and Upper class areas. And by safe I mean absolutely safe! Some of the safest areas in the country. People just like to look at the stats and create their own picture of what a city looks and feels like, then go around spreading that nonsense everywhere. If you ever choose to stay in Cape Town permanently I have no doubts it'll be one of your greatest decisions. All the best! As for the racism... The only thing I would say is Cape Town is quite behind compared to other cities when it comes to being an inclusive city in my opinion. The rest is highly exaggerated.

People who comment about racism are people who have never been to SA. Sometimes foreigners should just give us SAns a chance to comment about our country. Why this hate on anything South African? The funny part is that the same hateful Africans are coming in droves to SA. Most Africans are treated most horribly by Chinese, Lebanese, French who even own their whole economies and currencies. Most of these countries depend on Europeans and Chinese for food, toilet papers, I mean everything. They consume what they do not produce, drive on roads they have not built, drive cars they have not manufactured, wear clothes from China or second hand clothes from Europe. At least we eat what we produce, drive on roads we have constructed, ride on trains we have manufactured, go to our universities which happen to be the best on the continent, dance to our own music, watch our own world class movies 🎥. Funny thing is that we don't care about what is happening in their countries. Let African Americans choose which country they feel comfortable to live in. We don't even have a campaign targeting them for tourism. I wonder what would happen if our department of tourism starts to deliberately target AAs for tourism?

The only way to really understand SA history is to google-image maps - from the very oldest (Portuguese, 1497) to the most recent (10 provinces) - to see how it all developed (& jot down dates and notes for tours etc.), and to follow who was actually where, and when? You'll see the Dutch names (from 1652), like Bosmansland, Hottentots' Holland, Griqualand... these being part of the early Cape Town expansion... from the cold, dangerous Atlantic Ocean - myths of ghost ships, The Flying Dutchman - to Cape-Malay cuisine, Dutch gables in the architecture, and the iconic windmills.. into the scrubby desert areas. Then came the arrival of the British (1795), with the 1820 Settlers, border zones, & cattle-raids at the Fish River/Transkei Wild Coast, which led to the setting up of East London and Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Province. Then, also on the Indian Ocean side, there were the Mfekwane Wars (1815-1840) when the Zulus went expansionist: Mfekwane (the Crushing); Dfekwane (the Scattering); Lfekwane (the Consolidation [roughly into the Homeland areas])... into the tail-end of which the Dutch Voortrekkers moved and opened up the Interior, settling and farming for just about 50 years, until diamonds and gold were discovered in the Orange Free state and the Transvaal, respectively, leading to the Anglo-Boer wars (+- 1900). Also, Indians arrived in Durban - to work on the sugar-cane plantations - in 1860. Then came the C20th! So much history to discover, if you're open to earnest and honest enquiry. Enjoy your adventures and take care.
