Also posted is an invitation letter for a Nov.’67 taping at Hollywood Palace. Remember, to attend you must be between 14 and 18 years old. Boys must wear a jacket or a sweater with a tie and girls must wear dresses….no pedal pushers, slacks or shorts. The U.S. mix of “Gimme Some Lovin’” just entered the charts at #39 last week (Jan. 28) and is at #26 today. It will peak at #7 by the end of February. While 18 year-old lead singer Steve Winwood is the star of the group, they named themselves ”The Spencer Davis Group” because Spencer was the only one that liked doing interviews.
Tomorrow night (Feb. 5) following “The Ed Sullivan Show”, CBS will premiere “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” starring comedians Tom and Dick Smothers (“Mom always liked you best”) Despite going up against the highly rated “Bonanza” on NBC, the show would become popular among the younger generation thanks to their unusual, subversive comedy style.
