We attend the 2022 American Brabant Association Rendezvous in Mountain View, Wyoming, at the Wes Lupher ranch. We watch as draft horses, including American Brabant's, are used to put up loose hay using buck rakes, dump rakes and a Jayhawk haystack. Wes Lupher talks with us about what he likes about the American Brabant breed and

Beautiful horses, and man, it's sure neat to see folks putting up hay the old fashioned way! Pretty impressive! :)

8/11/2024 I heard a story on the radio WVPB a program called Inside Appalachia about the American Brabant and the qualities that make it perfect for mountain farmers, short, heavy, and good nature. And a breeder bringing them back, in Wytheville VA.

Love seeing mules working like this! My dad had a couple of teams of mules he’d use to work folks gardens that for a variety of reasons, they didn’t use a tractor . This was in Rural East Tennessee, Appalachian Mountains in the early 1960’s. After working he’d throw me up on the back of one of the mules and I felt like king of the world! I loved being around them.

A lot of interesting points raised up about the comparison between horse and tractor. Had a similar experience growing up. Friends had dirtbikes and quads and I just couldnt get into it. I was in nature to enjoy it, not drown it out with noises. The first time I got on a horse I was hooked instantly. I could feel the muscles , could hear the birds and the ground. That was before I knew just how intelligent these creatures were. People said they were dumb !

Excellent video. The videos such as this that shows the drafts in real working situations and with good narrative from seasoned teamsters are the best. Thank you for creating such informative content.

bred too quickly. Same happened to Shires. A shire gets bred at 3 yo sometimes. Stops their growth at 17h for females. Let them grow until 5 to 7, you get over 18h females. Males stallions go easily 19, My shire was bred to a 19.3 stallion

These horses don't look anything like a Brabander. Note I'm from belgium have owned them and my uncle is one of the best known painters of rural Flanders which includes loads of Brabanders for exemples of what he does do a search for Leon engelen
