I watched a video about how plastic surgery originated in the UK after WWI, because a lot of soldiers needed reconstructive surgery after being injured in the war. Nowadays, I think people forget that the origins of plastic surgery was to help people with severe injuries or birth conditions.

It actually originated from the ancient egypts 1600 BC. The first recorded plastic surgery was a nose being fixed. It later became a thing in ancient india(1000BC), where they used a method to cut a piece from the skin of the forehead or cheeks and used it to replace for example lips, noses or even genitals. It was brought forth to italy where they modified the same method but used the skin of the arm and it was then used after the world war.

I don't think there is a "national dish" from the US that is not a variation of something already existing. Apple Pie is from the UK, Hamburgers and Hot dogs are from Germany, Pizza is obviously Italian, french fries are from Belgium, etc. Even roasted turkey is not from the US, it comes from Central America and was made by indigenous peoples from Mexico. Then the Spanish conquistadores took Aztec turkeys back to Europe.

Soulfood -Black Americans. They are the creators of most American culture.
@WallySketch
@WallySketch 8 месяцев назад
@@ibetheigbo1193 I think you're right, but I am not sure of it. Is Soul food from the USA ? It might be, but that remains an open question, because if the name "Soul food" is from 1960, the dishes are from a mix of enslaved Africans and native Americans cuisines and pre-date the fondation of the USA. Basically, Soul food was the food of the slaves in the colonies before the American Revolution. So it depend of the definition of a "national dish" from the USA.
@ibetheigbo1193
@ibetheigbo1193 8 месяцев назад
@@WallySketch Correct, however, soul food has evolved over the years. Certain cuisines that were eaten back then may not be eaten now or they may be some variation due to the creation of new spices, migration, etc. Southern barbecue and an assortment of other dishes and sauces could be attributed to African Americans.

8:47 I mean, did United States of America exist by his time? They should’ve mentioned how the tune was based off of the Anacreon in heaven, a British drinking song.

The Apple pie recipe and the melody of Britain’s anthem weren’t stolen. Both were brought to the new land by the British, who stole the land from the natives.

The Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) was founded by George Williams and 11 friends. Williams was a London draper who was typical of the young men drawn to the cities by the Industrial Revolution. They were concerned about the lack of healthy activities for young men in major cities; the options available were usually taverns and brothels. Williams' idea grew out of meetings he held for prayer and Bible-reading among his fellow workers in a business in the city of London, and on 6 June 1844, he held the first meeting that led to the founding of YMCA with the purpose of "the improving of the spiritual condition of young men engaged in the drapery, embroidery, and other trades." Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury served as YMCA's first president from 1851 until his death in 1885. By 1845, YMCA started a popular series of lectures that from 1848 were held at Exeter Hall, London, and started being published the following year, with the series running until 1865. YMCA was associated with industrialisation and the movement of young people to cities to work. YMCA "combined preaching in the streets and the distribution of religious tracts with a social ministry. Philanthropists saw them as places for wholesome recreation that would preserve youth from the temptations of alcohol, gambling, and prostitution and that would promote good citizenship."

The YMCA spread outside the United Kingdom in part thanks to the Great Exhibition of 1851, the first in a series of World's Fairs which was held in Hyde Park, London. Later that year there were YMCAs in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and the United States.

YMCA, sometimes regionally called the Y, is a worldwide youth organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, with more than 64 million beneficiaries in 120 countries. It was founded on 6 June 1844 by George Williams in London, originally as the Young Men's Christian Association, and aims to put Christian values into practice by developing a healthy "body, mind, and spirit".

The national anthem of the united states was written during americas war of independence by francis scott key where he was offshore watching the battle of baltimore and it was his view of the battle from offshore that he wrote over into the song saying no matter how much the brotish tried the star spangled banner, the flag of americas independence, still flew and never fell. Also, the original flag was made by betsy ross whos house was in Philadelphia and you can visit it as a museum nowadays.

I believe they are referring to the melody between (British) GOD save the Queen/King and (US) Our County Tis of Thee. If you listen to both songs the melody is similar.

You kind of stole them they were created in Britain, first like apple pie was made in Britain and American say apple pie is American, and for the national anthem, while the words of the American national anthem we’re not stolen the melody was the melody was from an old British drinking song.
