I fed the birds at my old house and the crows would help themselves. I never thought anything of it until my chihuahua almost got attacked by a hawk. A few days later, I spotted the hawk again. I also noticed an unusual number of crows sitting in the trees calling to each other. When the hawk took off from the tree the crows attacked it, driving it away. Afterward, one crow landed in a tree right above my head. He cawed at my dog who looked up and wagged his tail in response. The crows then flew away and I was left dumbfounded by what had just happened. I continued to feed them until I moved. My dog has since passed, but I never saw that hawk again.
Yes, they were in league as they were upset their favorite feeding ground is being disturbed by a predator. Protecting familiar beings from the place they like seemed like a natural way to repay your kindness. Besides, crows fear for their juveniles, so they had all interest in the world of chasing the hawk away.
I had the privilege of watching two crow's built a nest and hatch 3 babies. I put food out for them & talked to them. At fledge time they brought all 3 fledglings to my door and each took a turn crowing, smart birds . I believe they knew I was a friend & not a foe. Thank you.😄 for sharing.
What a Wonderful Story! 🔥💯🔥 Thank You so much for Sharing With Us. I think it is Wonderful that you showed reverence and honored Crow with gifts, as they celebrated the birth of their young. 🌎🌈 They certainly recognized your Friendship with gifts of their own. Crow Songs! ☺ Take Care! TC 🕊🌈🐨
I love my crows. They respond to me. I respect their privacy, but I also give healthy food and clean water. Do not feed crows dog or cat food. They love it, but I don’t even give to my dogs. It’s not good for Corvids.
What is it about crows that makes me so fascinated with them? Sometimes it's a feeling of real love. I can't wait for deep winter when they roost around my house.
There where dozens of crows in the walnut grove next to my house growing up. Without even trying, I figured out all their calls almost instinctively. I could tell when something wasn’t right with them or someone/something was sneaking around.
I had one of my crows warm me one day.I was at the bird feeder and they were in the tree above me.They all started to make the rucous sound.I intuitively looked straight ahead into the bushes and staring back was a coyote. They were warning me there was a predator on the ground.
Haha....that is my morning wake up call all year round....I have a family of crows I feed each day and every morning at the crack of dawn they wake me up for food 🤫❤️
watching this to get an early sense and excitement of fall when still in summer. These amazing birds are so noisy in my area around mid-fall, and I love it so much! I cannot wait for the weather to start getting colder!
They don’t bring good luck when I hear them. I heard one today and they kept cowing I hope nothing bad happens to me or my mother or anyone in my family. Lord be with us. 🙏🏼😢
I love crows I have always found the very peaceful that sounds they make. They are very afraid of me and I can't make them change I've tried feeding them but as soon as they see me they run I have never hurt them before
@@hollyelaine8730 me too! I’ve left food like a handful of blueberries and some seeds that probably the squirrels got to. But the corvids didn’t want any part of me. They didn’t like it that I saw them up in a tree. I think they don’t like to be watched. So I started walking through the park and would carefully throw down a few berries at the ground- knowing they were watching me. The next time I came I heard a fletching squawk and more than the three I initially saw arrived ! Just sitting watching me in the trees. I think they knew the food was there but so did the squirrels so I’m not sure if they ate it. Last I saw of that family was they were dodging in and out of traffic and doing something hidden in the bushes that divided the two way street. They’re kind of a wacky bunch- I adore them! Another time I was walking through the park and I could hear them squawking! Clearly saying something to each other about me- I felt like they were shit talking me! Lol 😆 and there was border collie who overheard the conversation clearly, he started barking ( it shut the crows up) and his owner was unaware of why he was barking.
The crows caws always lead me to safety! The appearance of bats and crows protect me and keep me. Others may see them as evil but I see them as protectors 🖤🧿
I've seen crows chase away hawks and falcons plenty of times before. It's so fascinating how intelligent they are to work in such groups. Same with Bluejays. Those dudes will BULLY you.
Oh snap I just looked it up and man they do sound weird I wonder if a American goes to Australia and a Australian goes to America would their call eventually change to adapt
I remember hearing a crow or two calling, and twittering like baby birds. I instantly knew that a bunch of crows had been born in the miserable February, the chicks being kept warm.
I started learning Abt them bc I keep seeing them in dreams and ending up a crow at the end of them... First scared now welcomed bc I also get belittled and called bad words and associated with death...But they're sweet, intelligent, interesting, and loyal just awesome birds
I’m so thankful as I’m playing it loud outdoors for the audio thats actually helping me keep hawks away from our chickens and songbirds! Our beloved year- round crows are excellent protectors of their families which is how I came up with playing their recorded warning/danger voices when a hawk flies above the yard/gardens or secretly hangs along the hedgerow separating us from the pastures. He/she of course is welcome always to hang out in and live on the woods and fields of our 15 acre farm we maintain as a safe organic wildlife habitat!
Sounds like a nice place. Welcome to the Backyard. Yes, hawks learn not to mess with crows and jays I've had them pull tail feathers out of Coopers Hawk. BB
@@MyBackyardBirding Hi, thanks for the note back! I’m finding myself on RU-vid more this past year than other social media venues so I’ll be back. That’s so interesting to hear about the bravery and courage of the crows! They are larger than all other birds here except of course the hawks. Take care.
Another great sound from nature. And another bird you Can teach how to talk. I have cows in my backyard too.. Cows are a very smart bird.. Thanks for sharing
I've lived all over the U.S. and have always had crows around. It was always so cool to see them cawing on empty trees in November, everything rusted and gray. It just made everything so... Gothic. I've never found them annoying like some people. The jet black fur, the caw, they're like if heavy metal was a bird. Then I moved to Hawai'i for a while... No crows. Was happy to see them again when I moved back to the mainland. North America wouldn't be the same without them. There's a big family of them in my neighborhood and all over my city really... I like to think they all know each other and I'm sure they do. What iconic, underappreciated birds crows are.
I’m in the city and there’s tons of other birds but only one crow and it’s always near my apt !! I think it’s a sign because I never hear more than one and it’s almost always near my place in the morning 🙏💖
It's intersting to see that they keep doing loactor calls. Around my area the crows dont talk much. Ill take my crow call out during turkey season. The call will trigger a turkey gobble if they hear it. But ill also get a few crows following me through the woods. They dont caw at me or anything. But i have noticed they will speak to each other, doing the same locator calls when i hush up. It feels like they are almost keeping tabs on each other and me.
I set out some unsalted peanuts and I'm playing this in my back yard on a speaker hoping to attract some crows. Wish me luck. There are some that hang out a few blocks down from time to time hope my yard becomes a hang out spot!
I live in Queens NYC. I‘ve been feeding mourning doves on my fire escape for about 10 years. Their cooing sound does indeed sound mournful. They’re such gentle little things; and their markings are so pretty. The pinkish/green/blue iridescent coloring of the males is so pretty! Love hearing their cooing as early as 6 in the morning. It sounds so sad however; hence their name “mourning” doves! They’re indeed such soothing peaceful little things who bring me much “inner peace” !! ☮️ 💖🥰👍🏼😘
I used to not know that crows in America were a different species to crows in England, and I just thought that when they used a sound effect for crows in movies they couldn’t find any crow noises so used a different bird. This is much more high pitched and squarky to the crows we have. So strange XD
Crows and Ravens are highly intelligent birds, especially more so the Raven, which can be trained to understand humans, but not recommended. Crows will also crow back to you when you crow to them. I do this All the time. Love them, and the NC Turkey Vultures.
@@bobross8424 Thank you for the insight. I love learning about new birds. ❤️🤗❤️. I now live in Penrose Colorado. Love it here, but I do miss North Carolina my home state. Hope you have a Wonderful day ❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️
Because everytime I see one something bad happens. They also bring bad luck I hear. I heard one today and they kept cowing I hope nothing bad happens to me or my mother or anyone in my family. Lord be with us. 🙏🏼😢
When I worked in home health, I was sitting at a patients kitchen table and all of sudden, this giant black bird flew in and landed on the table. He said he found it injured as a baby and nursed it back to health, keeping it as a pet. It was calm and friendly but the is the first and last time I ever saw that.
Love these social birds. I use to have a murder of them come to my yard every morning for nuts, and every time their 'caws' would attract all the squirrels. And the always alarmed the neighbor of coyotes or hawks
Cause they’re black! The color black has historically been used to symbolize death, and always used in negative connotations. They’re very smart birds, but it’s their feather color that has them get a bad rep.

If I could settle for anywhere, you want me to be honest? I’d settle for the most somber, Autumn-esque place where all I see are gray skies, dead trees & crows. I couldn’t care less about songbirds, tbh. Crows are by far my favorite common bird; I have no idea why.
Instead of paw, paw, paw is caw, caw, caw . Symbol of transformation. Lol today at church the priest dress in all black said lots of changes in the church. 😂
🌝 Thanks! Just cleared off a whole mess of pigeons who were planning on making a mess. Various things previously tried have varying degrees of effectiveness. Can't keep all the pigeons away all the time. Except when they think there's crows 😆
idk how or why but crows are always in the right spot making the right sounds. just perfect animals to create amazing ambience especially in the winter plus crows arent annoying like fucking pigeons.
The kids in my class seen a really big crow sitting in the tree today making the same noise and they copied him for a good 15 minutes until he flew away 🤣🤣
They foresee impending doom. If you ever here them caw non stop you better leave from where you are. Someone could be plotting something terrible on you. But they never fail me 😀
I had a crow land on my shoulder I was fishing and I was opening a house it stayed for about a half an hour and ate half of my house I think some one must have had him as a pet people asked me if he was mine and I said yes but he was just hungry and every time some one tried to pick him up he would peck at them and draw blood so every time I see a crow I call to them to see if he is there thay are extremely smart and very social animals just wondering if he is still out there ?
I have a pretty good relationship with my yard crows, but sometimes they can be a little demanding or intrusive. I blasted this through my bluetooth just now and whatever is going on around 30 seconds in must translate to "leave me alone" because man they lit out of here in a hurry.
i came here trying to identify a bird song i've been hearing all morning, thinking maybe it was crow since we have a lot of crows here. amazingly, it's not a crow song, it's the song in the intro of the video. anyone know the bird song in the intro?
