🔥- no gold, a block of good seats for late purchase, lounge for the event or memorabilia. I think the super app could do really well for Amex, though it is tough to push people to something new when they have existing ways they are happy to do things.
A comprehensive app should work. Resy hasn’t been useful for me. I prefer the mom and pop places. I just swapped my platinum for gold so I can garden points the next couple years, especially groceries. Paying my rent with Delta platinum to add miles. Sounds like I’ll be back to platinum by then.
Nice my Amex Business Gold has 4x on gas stations, everyone is counting Amex out but Amex will have the last laugh ha they have excellent things planned I’m sure of it. It’s the reason Amex is the Cadillac of credit cards none compare to Amex! ✊💳
I will say I interviewed at amex for an analyst position back at the start of 2022 with the PM who headed Amex Offers and one of the side questions was actually what I thought about superapps
🔥1) 5x on Restaurants and Bars(including the ones in hotels) and Supermarkets. 2)Not sure. 3)It could be amazing. I could’ve used it recently traveling.
🔥 #1. I want there to be some type of superpower (mini) that fits in line with the Amex and makes you appreciate the Platinum's bigger superpower. Perhaps a dining credit for 1 or 2 to a Michilen 🌟 or 🌟🌟 based on spend: spend $20k get 1 credit, spend $40k for 2 credits, spend $100k get a bed and breakfast Michelin hotel (? 🤯). #2. I would want some swag or lounge at Amex events. #3. They need to buy Andrew Harper and make their guides available or give them membership (digital) or credit to it. Altitude Reserve did this before theories platform. Their books are nice and inspiring.
I rather them go with something like there Marriott brilliant card and just do a general dinning credit that works anywhere instead of the resy/tock credit as someone that never uses them. Personal opinion. Enjoy the vids. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
It would be nice if they reduce the coupon aspect of the Gold card, but add a 5X dining multiplier. For example, I would be ok with a $120 Uber credit, 5X dining credit, 4X groceries @ $325 AF. I would say that's pretty fair. Essentially a $200 effective annual fee but you get a 5X dining, which would have been similar to the Citi Prestige. That way the card would be a 5,4,3 card. 5X dining, 4X groceries, 3X airfare. I think going the credits route may be beneficial for them in the short run, but might be detrimental to the satisfaction of their customers/members in the long run.
Hi Sebby, can you use the AMEX Platinum Uber benefit with UBER Gift cards? Meaning use your monthly Uber Amex credit & pay remaining Uber fare with gift card? Or do you have to use Amex card to pay for balance of Uber fare?
Very informative. THANK YOU. I’m holding off on that card since I just got 2 shiny new CFFs with 10x grocery and I’m still getting double dining on my CFU.
I finally gave up on the gold card, canceled a few days ago and have pushed my way over to the cash back side of things. I realized that I'm not spending enough money to get a good amount of outsized value (aka accumulating points) through travel. Sad times, cause I loved the card, but it'll be around if I want to come back to it.
Don't have the Gold CC. Having trouble Using the Platinum. Many businesses so, no thanks ... do you have another CC ... OR Int'l merchant wants to charge 5% !!
Honestly Amex’s tech is terrible, so this is going to be a major uphill battle for them. I don’t have confidence that they’ll be able to pull this off at all
🔥 I have the Gold and my fee renewal is coming up, so I'll likely get a long time after they increase the fee with the new benefits. I easily use all of the credits now, and would love if they did as you said and increased the dining fee as I already spend that every month. No need to respond as I didn't add anything to the conversation, appreciate everything you do.
I couldnt do Resy - nothing in my area. A general travel or dining credit would be awesome. Looking at the Delta Gold ATM due to lower fee and Delta Stays credit. More accessible to me for now.
Good video but I'm thinking of canceling all my Amex cards and leaving that ecosystem. Tired of them always increasing annual fees to new records and turning around and making you "work" to recoup that fee through their coupon books 🤦♂️ chase, Citi, Wells and Capital are much simpler to use and offer just as much value IMO.
❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥 Great video. I currently hold the gold card. If they increase the annual fee, it would be awesome if there was a $30 per month dining credit. I would use that like nobody's business.
Absolutely, the Android apps for LoungeBuddy and Resy have been pulled from Google Play for a few years now, not just recently as the iOS app as Sebby stated.
If they raise fee and add resy or tok as credits only I'll have to downgrade in February. I didn't use either and never would just doesn't work for me only two resy places near me but still like 30 miles and to expressive anyways.
Being an amex gold card member living in Puerto Rico is tough. There’s no grubhub or shakeshack, only one cheesecake factory location. A lot of restaurants dont take amex. I signed up just for the 90k sub. cancelling after 1 year if I dont get a good retention offer
🔥 Don't have the card (but may get the biz version if a good elevated offer), but I suspect expanding Resy credit to include Tock. Neither has many restaurants in my area. Would love a hotel credit akin to the DeltaStays one, but w/the Hotel Collection and/or FHR.
I wish Amex would just combine all of the multipliers from the green and the gold into the platinum and make the annual fee like $1000. The gold would include the green multipliers and maybe a $500 annual fee and the green could have a few more perks at $250. That would make it so much simpler.
🔥A credit that applies to charges that code as groceries would be nice for the Amex Gold. Super apps are tough to make work because it’s really easy to violate Apple’s ToS and get booted from the App Store.
I am canceling if they go up on the annual fee. I am tired of the coupon book. They would really have to step up for me to keep it. I am waiting year out so I can upgrade to the Ritz-Carlton card.
🔥with what BILT has ben doing in the neighborhood side of things, not surprised this is the route they’re going down, but honestly not sure I’d love the play as a stockholder. If AMX uses this as an opportunity to expand Loungebuddy, is it just goin to look like Centurion-lite? Alternative is it just sits on the Green card AND now also on the “super app” as an unused perk. Speaking of the Green card, can they just go ahead and make it a 2x catch all already?
If this is the direction for Amex, I'm not a fan. It hints at a loss of human touch, more dictatorial spend credits, and an even more taxing experience to get value. Just give me the general dining credit, and let me choose how, when, and where to spend. Perhaps Amex investors will get a near term kick out of this, but I predict it will further alienate "some" of their target demo. Relying on Gen Z as a customer base is a ticking economic time bomb imo😎
🔥 Sorry Sebby, not focused on Gold card since Amex introduced the card family rule which eliminated the SUB. Amex enticed me to sign up for Platinum with a big SUB. Then implemented the card family rule that locked me out of subs for Green and Gold. Hopefully Amex will change its mind about the rule. For now, I’m focused on great card offerings from other issuers.
🔥 I just wanna see Amex do more to combat resellers of reservations on resy tbh. Also are you going to be flying D1 anytime soon into or out of JFK? Would love to see a review of the new D1 lounge 😃
Only when the annual fee posts, you have 30 days to decide. If you decide to cancel in that 30 day period your annual fee will be refunded. You can either call in or chat with them and sometimes there is no retention offer
