Game time rules (taken from Wikipedia) "A game consists of four quarters and a timekeeper officiates their duration. At the professional level, each quarter consists of 20 minutes of play, with the clock being stopped for instances such as scores, the ball going out of bounds or at the umpire's discretion, e.g. for serious injury. Lower grades of competition might employ shorter quarters of play. The umpire signals time-off to stop the clock for various reasons, such as the player in possession being tackled into stagnant play. Time resumes when the umpire signals time-on or when the ball is brought into play. Stoppages cause quarters to extend approximately 5-10 minutes beyond the 20 minutes of play. 6 minutes of rest is allowed before the second and fourth quarters, and 20 minutes of rest is allowed at half-time." I hope that makes sense.

Field rules, number of players on the ground (also taken from Wiki) "Australian rules football playing fields have no fixed dimensions but at senior level are typically between 135 and 185 metres (148 and 202 yd) long and 110 and 155 metres (120 and 170 yd) wide wing-to-wing. The field, like the ball, is oval-shaped, and in Australia, cricket grounds are often used. No more than 18 players of each team (or, in AFL Women's, 16 players) are permitted to be on the field at any time. Up to four interchange (reserve) players may be swapped for those on the field at any time during the game. In Australian rules terminology, these players wait for substitution "on the bench"-an area with a row of seats on the sideline. Players must interchange through a designated interchange "gate" with strict penalties for having too many players from one team on the field. In addition, some leagues have each team designate one player as a substitute who can be used to make a single permanent exchange of players during a game. There is no offside rule nor are there set positions in the rules; unlike many other forms of football, players from both teams may disperse across the whole field before the start of play. However, a typical on-field structure consists of six forwards, six defenders or "backmen" and six midfielders, usually two wingmen, one centre and three followers, including a ruckman, ruck-rover and rover. Only four players from each team are allowed within the centre square (50 metres or 55 yards) at every centre bounce, which occurs at the commencement of each quarter, and to restart the game after a goal is scored. There are also other rules pertaining to allowed player positions during set plays (that is, after a mark or free kick) and during kick-ins following the scoring of a behind."
@mebeme007
@mebeme007 Год назад
Scoring goes, you get a goal (6 points) if you kick the ball through the two main tall sticks in the middle, or it is kicked and it bounces through between the two tall goal posts. If it's touched by an opposition player after it is kicked but before it goes over the goal line, then it's just a single point instead. Not 6 points. If you miss the two main tall sticks in the middle, and kick it through one tall stick and one shorter stick, it is called a behind (also only 1 point). Switching goal ends occurs at the start of each quarter.
@jarredtremain4644
@jarredtremain4644 Год назад
6 points if kick ball anyway in air or soccer on ground between middle goalposts without been touched. 1 point for touched before going between goalposts or between outside poles called pointposts. You can't push opposition in back unless taking a mark(catch) you can ride there back or shoulders as long as you touch ball atleast. No offside, players can run and be anywhere anytime on field when playing a game.

Y’all need to watch “What is AFL” on RU-vid. Fields are an oval shape approx 2.5-2.8 acres in area. Games are 4 quarters of 20mins + OT. There’s 18 players per team on the field at any one time and 4 on the bench. Object move ball towards your goal line whilst defending opposition from scoring. Ball can be moved 3 ways. Running with the ball, but it must be bounced every 10meters, handpassed the ball must be hit with a clenched fist from an open palm (the ball cannot be thrown) and it can be kicked. A kick must travel 15meters before a team mate or opponent can mark/catch the ball, this can stop play for a on the spot kick or you can play on. If a penalty is awarded, the ball is taken from a on the spot kick or hand balled, this is play on. Ball can travel in any direction. A Mark is when the ball is caught, to complete a mark, the umpire must deem the player had first contact with the ball and held controlled possession of the ball. A ball can be knocked free in the contest or with contact to the ground and still be awarded as a mark, if the umpire (referee) has made the call it was a mark. To score ball must be kicked (and not touched) through 2 large uprights this is 6 points. If the ball is touched by team mate or opponent and goes through large uprights, ball hits large uprights or goes between large and small outer posts it’s 1 point. If the ball hits the outer lower post or crosses the boundary line on the full it’s an opposition free kick, if the ball bounces into the smaller outer post or across the boundary line it is thrown into play by a boundary umpire to a contested position. A player may carry the ball and be out of bounds, but the ball must remain within the field of play. So a player can run along outside holding the ball inside, but the player must return to the field of play to bounce or dispose of the ball. Tackling is allowed from any direction, but must be between knees & shoulders. Head high contact or tripping is a penalty/free kick to opposing team. Enjoy the Footy boy’s & watch “AFL here comes the boom”.

All things considered (Time on) the games go for two hours of playing time, divided into 4 quarters. There are 18 on the field at any time for each team. 36 in total. You score 6 points and restart play in the centre by kicking it between the long middle posts, kicking it between the long and the short edge post gives you 1 point and gives the opposition team possession You don't HAVE to jump on their shoulders to mark it, however it is a good show to do it - It is called a "Speckie" a "Screamer" or a "Capper" named after Warwick Capper who was a guy well known for doing it, about 1000 years ago. When they catch it, or "mark" it, the man from the opposition team stands where it was marked, and you get to go back and take a kick without being tackled. Incidentally, a few AFL players have actually been recruited as punters because of how far they can kick. Ben Graham. The brothers Sav and Anthony Rocca. I think there are a couple more.

This is Aussie Rules, AFL (Australian Football League) and has 4 quarters each one going for 20min. The clock is stopped if the ball goes out of bounds an ump (umpire) throws it back in, or there may need to be a bounce (ump will bounce the ball and players will jump to knock it down to their team mate). 18 players in each team. Ball through middle posts is a goal, if it goes through the outside and middle post its a point. The games been happening since 1859.
@Seedy_
@Seedy_ 3 года назад
-22 Players on each side, so 44 per game. -18 players for each team on the field at one time, with a rotating interchange bench with 4 players on it at all times. -ball kicked through the middle posts = 6 Points. -ball kicked through the outer posts = 1 Point. -2 ways of disposing the ball, either handpassing it (which is punching the ball out of your hands to your team, or kicking the ball. -There is boundary line around the oval, if the ball bounces out, they throw the ball back in at which point the rucks contest to guide the ball down to their rovers. -If the ball gets kicked out of the boundary on the full, it's a free kick to the team who didn't kick it. "Catching" is referred to as a mark, or marking in AFL - Each time a player marks it, they have about 10 seconds to dispose of the ball uncontested, once that's up the ump will blow the whistle and it's play on, meaning they can be tackled. -There is a significant amount of different free kicks in footy, "Holding the ball" being the most prevalent, if a player has prior opportunity to dispose of the ball and get caught/tackled it's a turn over. -Incorrect disposal, Ie; Throwing the ball, will result in a free against. -High tackles are also illegal, so contact above the neck. ("Referees" or Umpires (What we call them) tend to miss an awful lot of frees, so it can be quite confusing understanding the rules when watching lol. -Pushing an opponent in the back is also illegal, so players need to be mindful when tackling not to fall on the player they are tackling. (this rule seems to go out the window when it comes to them taking "Screamers" or "Speccies" when they jump on other players backs/shoulders to take massive marks, Unless it's blatantly unrealistic attempt at taking a mark, an umpire won't ping them for a free against) -There is a tribunal system, so when you are seeing these guys knocking each other out, they often get reported and then the tribunal will determine whether they are suspended for matches or fined to be penalised. The severity of the suspension depends on whether their act was intentional and a medical report. That's an incredibly brief summary of our beloved Aussie Rules, so much more to it. They are trying to make it an international sport, so the more publicity guys like you do, will give it a better shot to be played around the world. I'm very biased as it's definitely my favourite sport. When it's offseason it's very depressing lol. AFL is played between March - September every year, 22 Rounds, + 3 Weeks of Finals and a Grand Final where the top two teams play it out for the premiership cup.

AFL is NOT rugby. Aussie rugby is the NRL, this is AFL (everyone calls it footy) and the games a very different. AFL is actually based on a game of our indigenous Australians called "Marngrook". A few rugby players have tried to play AFL but they didn't have the stamina or foot skills needed. Quite a few Americans have tried too but failed to gain all the skills required (its very hard, we play it as children and are used to getting hit hard completely legally within the rules). Mason Cox is the first American to play a senior game (each AFL team has a senior side and their second team called the reserves). The most common sport to transition from is basketball. They are tall, have good hand skills and usually good awareness (so you don't get knocked out). The ball is not a rugby ball either. Its a different shape and traditionally made of kangaroo skin. Watch Dustin Martin 2017 highlights if you want to see a great player.

Basically, Australia has 4 popular forms of football - Soccer, Rugby Union, Rugby League, and Australian Football (AFL). AFL is a sport unique to rugby that kinda uses some rules from Rugby, Soccer, and Gaelic Football, plus a few of its own. It's extremely popular here in Australia, probably the most popular sport just above Cricket and Rugby. I'd recommend watching a video on the basic AFL rules so you can appreciate how unique it is from other forms of football. Rugby is also very popular here, and both forms of Rugby (Union and League) are played widely. But they are both very different from AFL. Soccer is also played a lot here, especially at a Junior level.

The game has few stoppages and each player is required to be able to run non-stop for four quarters of ball play. These are very fit dudes aerobically. During the off season they get buffed doing weights but by halfway through the season they get stripped lean by all the running.

Australian Rules can be best described a game that takes the best features of other sports such as Soccer, Basketball, Rugby, NFL, Gaelic Football which is combined is dexterity, athletic ability, aerobic capacity and a big set of nuts. No padding or protection, players will run between 13 and 20km per game, which consists of 4x 25 minute periods - called quarters. Most modern day players are amongst the fittest and strongest athletes in the world of team sports today. 18 teams make up the national league now known as AFL. The game began back in 1830 in Melbourne Australia. Scoring is from the being kicked between the posts with a goal worth 6 points being for kicks between the tallest posts. Points or behinds are scored when the ball is kicked between the outside posts or forced across the line by a defender during an attack. There are 18 players on the ground at all times with 4 reserve players which can be swapped or rotated with players on the field. In a game this rotation of players can happen 90 times maximum per team, per game. If the ball is kicked and crosses the outer boundary line of the field it s a free kick to the opposition. If the ball rolls out of play it is a thrown in by the boundary umpire who monitors the lines at all times. If the main umpire decides a player purposely made the ball go out of play - then he can award a free kick to the opposition. The ball can be kicked or hand-balled to a team mate. A hand ball is where the player punches the ball clear with one hand while supporting it with the other. You cant push in the back of players or tackle above the shoulders. If you tackle below the knees a penalty free kick will be awarded for tripping. A player tackled by the opposition must dispose of the ball immediately or be penalized for holding the ball. There are many more rules which are pretty clearly explained as each incident occurs during a game by the commentators who are usually all experienced ex players. You must watch a Grand Final to see what its like to have 100 thousand people inside the same stadium... quite amazing.

In the premiership decider of 1970 South Sydney Rabbitohs were up against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at the Sydney Cricket Ground on the (19th) September. Having lost the previous Grand Final to the Balmain Tigers, Souths were desperate to win. Approximately ten minutes into the game Sattler collapsed after being hit with a forearm by Manly forward John Bucknall while not in possession of the ball. He suffered a double fracture to his jaw but pleaded to teammate Mike Cleary, "Hold me up so they don't know I'm hurt". He was helped up and continued to play in the game. At half time Souths were leading 12-6 when his teammates learnt about his injury. During the interval he refused treatment and insisted he continue playing. He also told the side, "The next bloke who tries to cut me out of the play is in trouble," to prevent his teammates trying to protect him from further injury. At the end of the game South Sydney had scored 3 tries to nil in a 23-12 victory. He later went to hospital to receive treatment but only after receiving the Giltinan Shield and making an acceptance speech. John Bucknall did not finish the game. Yo. There’s 18 players on each side on the field at one time. You have to kick the ball between the longer posts for 6 points and if you hit the big post of get it between the big post and the smaller post, it counts as a behind (1 point). You can kick the ball or hand pass it, you can’t throw the ball. You can pass/ kick in any direction. If you kick it and someone catches it, it’s called a mark and you can either stop and take your time with the ball (no one can tackle you at that time) or you can keep running and can be tackle. A legal tackle is when you grab the opponent between the shoulder and top half of the legs. There are 4 quarters with at least 20 minutes per quarter with added stoppage time at the end like soccer... I’m probably missing a few things but this should give you blokes a better idea about the sport.

I’m Australian I play football there 4 20 minute quarters, u have 4 post the outside is 1 point middle is 6 points. U kick and handball there’s speakers what the guy did when he jumped o the players there’s 18 people on the field there’s bumps tackles it’s similer to a rugby ball. There’s more to say but it’s a brutal sport

so pretty much its 18 players a side and both teams are trying to kick the ball through the posts and is constant running and kicking and catching. the two middle posts if you kick the ball through is 6 points, and either side of these two posts are two extra goals and if it goes through there its 1 point. players can kick it to one another and if its caught on the full (no bounce) they get 10 seconds to kick wherever they want without any player coming to tackle them. Its just about trying to kick the ball between the posts on each side of the field. Its a very fast paced game.

AFL and NRL are different games. AFL is played on a bigger field and with a smaller ball, yo also have to bounce the ball every 15 metres. NRL is play on a field that is 120 metres long. To score in afl you have to kick the ball in between the two taller post to get 6 points or hit the big post or get it in between one of the smaller posts and a bigger post to get one point. To score in nrl you have to run in two the end zone which is ten metres wide and put the ball down for four points and then you take a kick which is called a conversion for another two points. AFL is played with 22 people, only 18 people are on the field at a time and the other four are on the bench. NRL is played with 17 people, only 13 are on the field at a time and four people on the bench. There ya go boys I got you.

There are already tons on punters in NFL. At last count about 60 in college and about 6 in NFL, Including Dickson (Seattle). The Ray Guy Award, presented to the top punter in NCAA Division I FBS football, has been won by Australians in six out of the last seven seasons (2013-2019). AFL is a unique game that is nothing like any other code of football in that it is played on an oval field approx. 180 yds x 160 yds. Is played over 4 x 20 minute qtrs. (adding time on is approx. 30 mins/qtr.). It is virtually non stop and players are far fitter than any other code, in that they run 8/9 miles per game and play without pads. It is also older than any other code, started and the rules codified in 1858, and the first league was formed in 1877. Welcome to AFL, for a better understanding of the rules watch "What is AFL", also watch " AFL 50 greatest marks (catches)", "AFL greatest Hits"," AFL best Goals" & "AFL biggest Brawls"

@@thenorseprodigy7466 ON average Aussie Rules players run 14 kms per game with elite players running up to close to 20 kms EPL players run on average 11.7 kms. In addition Aussie Rules players are reaching higher speeds for longer periods. You need to play an Aussie Rules game to appreciate the level of fitness you need. In addition you need strength and be multi skilled with both your hands and your feet. You also need peripheral vision as it can be much more dangerous. www.the42.ie/afl-stars-push-themselves-hardest-379060-Mar2012/#:~:text=English%20Premier%20League%20teams%20run,on%20what%20position%20they%20play.

@TheChosenOne90 3 года назад
@@Withak81 actually in high school most players play both ways. It’s beneficial to see when there getting scouted by college recruits what position is best so that way they play that position for the rest of there college career and if there great enough in the NFL. I really don’t understand why Football is used in the American sport but it is what it is, don’t see why it’s nonsense though it’s apart of the game.

catching the ball is called a mark but when they take a high flying mark its called a speckie and you get 6 points for kicking a goal between the two big middle posts and a point for the smaller ones or if its touched going through the goal posts and its 18 players per side on the field and 4 on the interchange bench
