True to the viewer, but I disagree from the tailee’s POV. Consider the era it was set in, remember that not everyone had a television, and therefore that not everyone had the inside track on what a tail actually looked like.

3:59 Director Todd Phillips wanted these stairs for “Joker” but they were renovated after this movie looked to nice so they found a different set of stairs that became iconic.

Funny thing is, there actually driving from Manhattan to New Jersey in this scene. As they’re getting on the bridge the building on the left is the George Washington bridge bus terminal, which is located on Fort Washington Avenue between 178th St. and 179th St. in Manhattan.

This was a great movie I can rewatch any day. It stretches the truth out like an adult entertainment movie which makes it that more impressive. Frank Lucas was not a suave charismatic guy like Denzel. He was an avg street dude with a cousin who hooked him up.

At 1:06 the other cop asks about going in the city when in actuality, they're LEAVING the city. They're passing the bus terminal in Washington Heights about to go to Jersey for that shot. Guess they couldn't get a permit to film from the other side of the bridge

Actually, this is indicative of the true mentality of an apex predator. Those near the top of a given hierarchy don't expend as much effort on situational awareness because, simply put, they assume that there are few threats to their existence. Brolin's character didn't notice he was being followed because he simply didn't care one way or another. In his world, it couldn't conceivably pose a threat to him regardless.

I forgot how well done this movie was, it truly was well-acted. In my opinion, this what a film that has top-notch actors/actresses, it's magic. American Gangster, Malcolm X., Carlito's Way, the Godfather, Training Day, Heat, Love Jones, Fury, and The Color Purple, are a few films that hit the mark.

“Hoodlum” could be a prequel in my opinion (and a trippy 1 at that). Hoodlum is centered around how Bumpy Johnson came up through the Harlem ranks. in a timeline, American Gangster could roughly pick up where Hoodlum left off. the trippy part? 1 of the actors playing a gangster in Hoodlum is the same actor that plays Bumpy Johnson in American Gangster

"oh, there's the guy that just gave me 20.000 dollars for drugs on the other side of the city, nothing suspicious". just seems like a terrible idea to immediately follow the guy like that

Well, the dealer can run, but he'll likely get caught, arrested, and charged with intent to distribute ounces, if not kilos of heroin. That's some serious fuckin time, like 20-50 years. Since they got him on tape agreeing to the deal, he'll likely play ball and they'll probably get further in their investigation.

It's bullsh*t though. He didn't import the drugs. He got his drugs from a seargent "Ike" in the army. He imported the drugs and sold it to Lucas, who was one of many dealers Ike sold it to. Lucas snitched on Ike I believe but I'm not 100% sure about that.
