06:52 see the comic mole on the back window? That's Krteček, the "Little Mole" from then Czechoslovakia. Even though he was "born" behind the iron curtain in 1957, he was broadcasted in the west and is a dear childhood memory. Lovely to see him on a car in the US.

In the Netherlands ‘Het molletje’ (Krteček) is a childhood memory as well for many people. I enjoyed it! Zdeněk Miler was strongly influenced by Walt Disney, that’s why he chose an animal as the main character. “In the beginning, the mole spoke, but Miler wanted his creation to be understood everywhere in the world, so he decided to use his daughters as voice actors, reducing the speech to short non-figurative exclamations in order to express Krtek's feelings and world perception. His daughters were also his test audience, who got to see the films first. Thus, Miler could see whether his message resonated with children. Krtek was a huge success in Czechoslovakia, Eastern Europe, and Germany from the beginning, and today Krtek can be seen in over 80 countries.” I suggest that the Tesla Cybertruck should have a Disney sticker, to keep the balance ☯️

The Cybertruck looks like something a villain would drive in an episode of Knight Rider. When people in the 1950s imagined cars of the future, they envisioned things like this. It took a fool like Musk to actually build this monstrosity, which has no real use other than showing off how one can afford to throw away money.

As an Italian this gave me the idea of a gathering of Polish car enthusiasts :) Keep in mind that the vast majority of Fiats are due to the presence of the Polish branch and the models are vaguely different from those produced in Italy or Brazil (such as Mexican Fords ), in Italy the 126 and 127 stopped producing them at least 10 years earlier, leaving production to the Polish branch and moving towards new models.

17:04 late 80s 🤣that one is the Plus model which like the last variation that was like a facelift made by Daewoo for FSO and that model the Caro Plus (Hatchback), Atu Plus (Sedan) and Kombi (Wagon) ran from from 97 till 2002 with a Truck version (something like a Ute) that finished the Polonez production in 2003. The 'preface lifts' of them the as some people call them the Minuses 😅Caro, Truck and Cargo (Van/Ambulance) from from 91 till 97 and the Atu (sedan was introduced in 96) The original Polonez has ran since 1978 till 1991 and the original was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (living automotive legend, google the cars he designed you'll be surprised) oh btw all the fiats in the video except the 127 were Polish (may look similar but are very different from Italian models especially the 125p that has only the chassis from the Italian 125, different engine and interior adapted from way older fiat models. Plus the Cinquecento was mean to be the replacement for the 126p but whilst the 126p ran till the year 2000 the Cinquecento production ran from 91 till 98 so the car it was meant to replace ran for 2 years lodger 😂

12:30 in the USSR, from the factory, it was a 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a capacity of 75 hp, as simple as possible and designed to keep moving after several bullet hits. in the military version, this is a clearance of 300mm, in the civilian "farmer" 220. in Europe, Peugeot diesel engines were installed in them as one of the options. 4-speed manual in one unit with a transfer box, the front axle is pluggable. This thing is still being produced, with a modern 135hp gasoline engine and a 5-speed gearbox.

Wow, such a great event! And such nice people! Those Fiat 127 series have a really cool design, they have been produced for so long for good reason. They were not the best cars ever made, but used really simple and accessible technology. It is great to see so many of them in such good condition. It seems to have been a Polish event (I hear a lot of Polish text in the background). Those 127s got a sort of cult status in Poland, which is really cool. The Cinquecento you see from 10:20 on is the successor of the 124. The Fiat 125p is also a Polski Fiat, made in Poland after the production of the original 124 stopped. The Russian Lada Riva (VAZ 2107) was based on this car and was produced until 2015! And the same holds for the old Skodas, they were also not very reliable but had simple maintainable tech. Except for the engine in the back, that was a very Czech thing. The Tatras from the time had a V8 in the back. When the US had the big 70s Cadillacs and Chevys, we had this awesome collection of cars.

The Warszawa (that's Polish for Warsaw) you saw was originally a Soviet 1948 GAZ M20 Pobieda. FSO liked the model so much that they kept improving it, and it was produced up to 1980, long after GAZ had stopped making it. This one is definitively an entierely Polish model, as the origina Soviet design had a water drop design (much like Tatraplan or the VW bug) but the purely FSO models had the end carved to give the car a regular sedan shape.

To be fair, most (if not all) of the FSO cars were built under a licence acquired from abroad, or had major body/interior modifications over an existing licenced chassis/drivetrains. Warszawa was somewhat better than the Pobieda here and there but... Of course, due to the Eastern "standards", the parts manufactured in Poland were pretty far even from Italian ones, when it comes to quality of Fiat-licenced ones, for example. The elders tend to idealize the Polish in-house car manufacturing from back then (just because it existed), but truth is - none of it was entirely "our own".

A bit of info: The Fiat 126 show in the video, are all the Polish version of it (126p) , Fiat sold the right to a company called FSM based on the old version. The "original" version where the same, but later on Fiat make the latest version called 126 BIS. The Bis model had a water cooled engine with 704cc and 26 HP,mounted 180° on the back, gaining a second trunk space. This engines had problem with the thermostat and i remember a popular mod was to dich it and make the cooling loop always circulating. My mom had one and had the same mod on it :) This car and similar (like the Fiat 500) are still popular here in Italy on racing hillclimb. Some of the most extreme had totally different suspension and bike engine on it . You can seem if search "fiat 500 /126 cronoscalata"

The Finnish Defence Forces got a few hundred of those UAZ-military vehicles in the 1970s and 1980s (might still have some of them in use). I'm not sure if we actually bought them from the Soviet Union or got them through barter trade, which was usually how trade was done between Finland and the USSR. I don't know much about them, but as far as I know the off-road capabilities were good, but the engines were rubbish and had to be repaired constantly. And they had a petrol engine, not diesel.

The Fiat in rally livery is a 127, I had one in the U.K.in the late 80's. The main con on these was that the retaining clip on the bottom of the gear leaver was base metal. it would sometimes fracture, and thus have the connecting ball joint fall off. Some additional info on the cars mentioned: "Warszawa" was a design bought from the Soviets in early 50s, in turn loosely inspired by American cars of the 40s, yet with some simplifications like a 4-cylinder engine, initially side-valve (with terrible fuel consumption), then OHV. There were some Polish variants like a station wagon or even a small pickup. The model stayed in production in Poland for way too long, being extremely outdated in the late 60s and early 70s. There were some fun special versions like a railcar / draisine. Too bad nobody brought a Syrena (FSO Syrena in Wikipedia) to this event. A 2-stroke monstrosity, with a lot of components borrowed from "Warszawa" yet much smaller and lighter. The car was outdated from the start, yet there were some cool developments - P-20 pickup and Bosto panel van. Plus the legendary Syrena Sport (the most beautiful car from behind the Iron Curtain), the only prototype of which was purposely destroyed by the commies. PF126p - our late female basketball player Margo Dydek (7'1) was able to drive this car. Skoda 105/120 - some people would carry a 100lbs block of concrete in the front trunk in order to improve handling. The predecessors (Skoda 100/110 and Skoda 1000MB) looked much cooler, yet they are rare today. Skoda 100 is mentioned in the legendary "Jožin z bažin" clip.

Oh Boy,. This brings some memories. I must have bin 6 or seven years old. My mum used to drive a Fiat Bambino in the late 70s. This car was trash on wheels. Believe me. I remember this one hot summer day. My mum drove me to the public swimming pool. there was bump on the road. My mother drove over it and all of the sudden she wasn't able to accelerate any more. When she pushed the paddle nothing happened. We were sitting in this hot car sweating and it looked like that our swimming pool trip will be cancelled. Than a young man pulled over and came to our tiny yellow fiat Bambino. He was an US solder who didn't understand any word of German and at the same time my mother didn't know any English. At this time there was a huge US garrison in and around my home town. Within no time he fixed the car. There was a hook at the end of the throttle cable. When my mother drove over the bump the hook jumped out of some kind of eyelet. This was such a simple technic. The US guy was my Hero. He fixed the car and we were able proceed our drive to the swimming pool. It happened several times that the hook flipped out out the eyelet. Some time later, at the Fiat dealership they fixed the flipping hook, by just winding some wire over the hook and through the eyelet. This is how I connect Fiat 500 Bambino to the united States. Meanwhile I am 50 and still remember how an American GI fixed my mother's car.

IT was more of a meeting of car owners from Eastern Europe, mainly from Poland. Certainly somewhere in Chicago or the surrounding area, my native language can be heard in the background. The purchase of a license from Fiat for the production of the 126m meant that many Poles could experience motorization on a mass scale. Imagine that in such a Fiat, families of four or even five people traveled from Poland for holidays to the then Bulgaria to the Black Sea and Yugoslavia to the Adriatic Sea and, of course, to the Polish countryside, maybe even to the mountains from all over Poland. This model even had a camping trailer, a roof rack and many other interesting gadgets specially produced by Poles. There was also a BIS version with a flat engine and liquid cooling, making it a hatchback with the engine and trunk at the back, and there was also a Cabrio version, both made in Poland. Currently 125p, it has the status of a cult car. A total of 4,671,586 Fiat 126s were produced, of which 3,318,674 in Poland (1,152,325 in the plant in Bielsko-Biała, 2,166,349 in Tychy.

Chassis comes from Fiat 1300 mix with 125 RWD leaf springs, body was good and safe like for 80s but not rust proof at all.
