Will Ferrell, Darrel Hammond, Tim Meadows, Ana Gasteyer... those were the people I grew up with on SNL, and it got distinctly bad when they all left, which was around the same time IIRC. It took some time, but SNL repopulated the cast with comedic genius, and it's been great again for the last few years.
