The over-the-top nature places the feeling of trying to have tough political discussions about things with a huge grey-area like this particular incident without saying something wrong or offending anyone perfectly. It's also been the general tone of the online discussion with the whole thing being such a mess and it being so divisive it's like treading a minefield.

As a black woman I had a meaningful conversation with my friends white husband about race a few months after the George Floyd incident. It was the most freeing conversation I ever had with a white person. We learnt a lot from each other, agreed on some things, disagreed on other things and had a new found respect for each other. Now I am no longer afraid to have racial conversations with non black people. I think we have been censored a lot out of fear of offending each other but if we don't speak our mind, how can we be challenged, how can we learn and grow. In this modern day society we seem to be offended by everything but air. Differences of opinion and discussions are so important.

Place Holder - Or maybe it's because we're kinda ticked off at the hypocricy of entitled hollywood millionaires preaching morals to the rest of us. They pretty much all knew of the sexual harrasment going on in the industry but so long as everyone kept their mouths shut and their pockets full it was all cool. Not that finally the whistle has been blown actresess who have been banking in on their sexual appeal or some incident of harrasment are tripping over themselves to cry out about being seen as sexual objects. Some of them have even publicaly deffended these abusers such as Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman and other who have petitioned for Roman Polantski to be pardoned and basically every woman who has worked with Woody Allen. All of them are now either keeping extra quiet about that or are immediately going back on their words and renouncing them so even you shoul see how it's hard for us to think any of this is genuine. There is also the factor that any kind of due process is eliminated and it desolves into chaotic internet mob justice. Anyone accused is immediately branded guilty and has basically no chance to defend themselves and even if prison isn't an actual option for them the damage to their carrers and reputation is irreparable. As far as Aziz Ansari goes, a woman coming up to your appartent after a first date and willingly going down on you among other things, and only mildly protesting your attempts to go further while at the same time being free to leave at any time is not cut and dry in any way shape or form you moronic liberal fucking cunt. I would hardly commend Azin or call his behaviour examplary, but what he did was not assault and no procecutour would ever take these accusations seriously. There is a TON of nuance to this particular case and idiots like you are the reason liberals and their actual issues are not taken seriously enough by the rest.

@SimBol1216
@SimBol1216 4 года назад
@@dttra566 That's some bullshit. Race is a social construct, and the fact is that Asians aren't treated as whites (especially South Asians) in today's society. Had Aziz Ansari been white, the entire conversation would have been much different. But because South Asian men are seen in a largely negative light, especially in matters of dating and sex, it is absolutely a race issue and absolutely matters, despite whatever archaic definitions of "caucasian" that no longer apply may be.
@soulsurfer639
@soulsurfer639 3 года назад
@@SimBol1216 You do realize that South Asians are statistically doing far better than White Americans in the US (as far as academic achievement, economically, property ownership etc). If whites are soo inherently racist or "see Asian men largely in a negative light"... why is it South Asians are absolutely thriving in America? In wealthy countries such as Saudi Arabia or United Arab Emirates, South Asians are ACTUALLY seen as second class people and can never be citizens of these countries (no matter how long they've worked there). Furthermore, it's quite common for White Americans to marry outside of their race but many women of Indian decent get disowned from their families for daring to marry outside of their race (worse still for Pakistani women). Lastly, most of the famous people who were pointed out for the #metoo movement were white males, so your claim that "Had Aziz Ansari been white, the entire conversation would have been much different" is absolutely ridiculous.

This skit perfectly sums up the problems of today's culture. Everyone is so worried about offending/ getting offended, that we can't even have a basic conversation to form our own opinions on something if it's at all controversial. It's so dumb. At the end of the day we all have our own issues and need to worry more about bettering ourselves and less about others messing up.
@ca8824
@ca8824 2 года назад
We all know that sounds nice but in in reality you have to think about right time, place, and people. On politics, your credibility and integrity are nessecarily called into question and we naturally feel the need to defend and counter-question. That’s how arguments start, then to cool them you might feel the need to placate which you also might feel is beneath you. It’s hard enough with people you don’t care about on a personal level. It’s really hard to have discussions on fundamental value questions with people you care about but disagree with. You expect to be in alignment, not on everything, but on core values issues. Plus we live in a country of true ignorants - skepticism on climate change, systemic racism, vaccination, election results, etc. All these things are obvious and found by countless data, but no we disagree on the makeup of reality. How do you discuss that the Earth is truly round?
@kawaiiafangirl

Amazing skit. The intersection of bad/regrettable sex, enthusiastic consent, and the controversial nature of discussing it all is Probably the biggest public issue today. SNL would probably never openly criticize as a whole any person with mixed reviews (on the left) such as this, but folks being totally afraid of having a meaningful discussion or being vulnerable/open is hurting the movement even more. It hints at exactly that, being an amazing representation of the inner, unnecessary/funny problems we face in dealing with these issues

The Aziz thing did not set any movements back. It forced people to talk about the grey area involving sexual behavior. People like the easy ones where you can clearly tell there is a victim and an aggressor. But it is more common for people to experience these "bad date" scenarios. Everyone should be more aware of this and be clearer about what they want and don't want as well as be more sensitive to non verbal cues. Clearly it wasn't sexual assault but I think even Aziz might admit it wasn't he should have been less pushy. But the woman should have been much clearer and assertive if she felt uncomfortable.

PrasadS She did say no. But he kept trying other approaches. The issue was that she did like him and was expecting more romance and foreplay, and he was being gross and aggressive. She might have slept with him if he had had more finesse. So initial intentions are not blanket consent for anything goes. A girl can get turned off because a guy doesn't know what he's doing and change her mind about taking things further. But I don't think this is assault or harassment. He didn't force himself on her at any point.

@jayyyzeee6409

The Aziz Ansari case had nothing to do with "Me Too". The actual "Me Too" cases weren't complicated. They were just some people taking sexual advantage of others. Basically people being evil, pure and simple. What happened with Aziz should in no way diminish what happened in the other cases.

So, a woman had a date with Ansari. It wasn't a dream date, but he didn't sexually assault her. She later thinks, "Even though he listened to me, apologized after hearing my after-the-fact declaration of discomfort, and was an understanding gentleman about the evening, it was still an uncomfortable date. I need to pull the plug on his career. #MeToo." Have I got that right?

We need to understand that most people are normal and just want to get along and most men aren't secret misogynist sexist sexual predators. None of us are going to be perfect, including us women. I think it would help if we got over these old dating traditions asap. Why must the man lead on everything? Most guys don't like having to take all of those risks, having to carefully guess what their date may want because we're expected to be modest about what we really want if we are interested in sex. Most guys would probably like not having to pay for 80% of the dates they go on as well. Why do so many of us still expect that from men? If the norm was the dates were a lot more balanced, any guy trying to control the date would raise a red flag.

hey allison im ganna have to call you on ur shit no offense here but that some shitty arguing you have there. enrique has it right some girls DO have a higher sex drive like me in particular. i have a hormone condition that really amps that up and no joke i get off at least 5x a day to relieve myself from the hyper sexual symptoms i get. that ends up meaning that 9x/10 i am the one that initiates sexual contact or request of any kind from my partners through out life. bc of that the onus FALLS ON ME, to be responsible toward understanding if the other person actually wants to engage with me or not. the responsibility isnt on them its not a "Well they werent clear enough about their wants" the responsibility is ALWAYS on the person propositioning first and fore most. pretty much every one already knows that most men do not want to be predators and have sexual desire that they cannot control but they can control WHAT THEY DO WITH THEM. biology is not an excuse for immoral aggrieved actions we are humans being we have an abilty to make a choice and a responsibility to be put effort into being aware of our surrounding conditions when we make said choices. its very disconcerting that the main issue kepts being swept under the rug, in that pushing sex on someone who is not comfortable with it get excuse by our society. yes we are very hard on rapist but we are also very hard on victims of rape and harassment and a culture that doesnt overwhelming realize that the onus is solely on the person making the preposition, only reinforces that sort of behavior in the first place. we need to have a VERY serious conversation about what consent means and why the responsibility should never fall on the person being propositioned. this goes beyond gender and toward how we view sexuality and entitlement (ie "if you cant properly stop me i deserve to have this" mentality) in general but it certainly touches on gender deeply bc of the the fact the we in many ways EXPECT passive acceptance out of women and that men should be "conquerors". we need to stop with the whole "well why were you not more clear then" attitude. if you dont wanna harass and abuse people you need to put conscious effort into understand and reading how they feel or what they want or or if you are unable or unwilling you shouldnt be fucking a living being but rather a pocket pussy or dildo. if someone didnt understand that someone else didnt want them they are the one creating the problem and arent RESPONSIBLE enough to be engaging is such activities. making that as clear as possible should be paramount if we are ever to actually solve this toxic mess.
