Things don't normally move me and get me emotional, but this... I mean it's a horse race. All I know is that it's good to know you don't really know yourself in some respects. Thanks Pharaoh.
Don't forget the Jockey, Victor Espinoza. He did a great job and he donated all of his Belmont Stakes winnings to charity. He is also the first Mexican and Latino to ever win the triple crown. Congrats Mr. Espinoza and American Pharoh!!
June 6, 2015 was my 23 birthday. It was also the day my grandmother lost her battle with cancer. She died a few hours before the Belmont, around 3pm. I was grief stricken, but I took a break in packing my suitcase to watch the race and said a short little prayer for AP as they loaded in the gates. When they turned for home and AP pulled ahead...I stood up and just burst into tears. I'll never forget that moment. I experienced the entire spectrum of emotion that day. I am forever grateful for American Pharoah, because even in what seemed like my darkest hour, he was the light.
Undeniably, the greatest sporting event I have ever attended! The 147th Belmont Stakes was nothing short of historic. I was able to share a memory with my mom that can never be duplicated. She loves horses, and has been talking about Secretariate and the impossible Triple Crown for years. She called me up earlier this week and reminded me that the race was this weekend. After her call, I immediately booked last minute tickets to an event neither of us have ever attended. Surprise mom, guess what... we're going! Front row, grandstand seats! I have never seen her so happy in all my life, and her happiness was my happiness. And somehow, in some weird way... I knew this was the year. I cannot describe how I feel today, knowing the results of the race, but this high I'm on will last me the rest of my life. 37 years of waiting for a Triple Crown winner, and the one year I take my mom to the track... it happens. Congratulations to American Pharoah! The race and memory of a lifetime.
Was in a restaurant in the gulf watching this live and the place erupted like it was the superbowl or something. Still gives me chills. This is some of the greatest commentary in all of sports.
I started crying immediately. I've been watching 20 some years and started thinking after the Big Brown and California Chrome heartbreaks that I might never see it. It's amazing. I want to just watch it over and over.
I'm with ya. I've never gotten goosebumps this bad. It's amazing. I'm 25 next month and I've seen a few come close, but to have the chance to see it actually happen is amazing.
Peter Marris im not a religious person nor am i into numerology, but todays date equates to 6/6/6 and the horse was sponsored by monster who's logo literally means 666, that and the horses name: "american pharaoh" gives me goosebumps just from coincidence
Rumford Chimpenstein 6/6/1+5 on a decimal system. Binary would call it 110/110/1111; etc. The Mayans would use a duodecimal system, Base 20, in turn. There's nothing evil about American Pharoah.
My great grandmother is 100 and she's been telling me about all of the TC winners. She has been lucky to be alive to see all 12 winners! Wow. This is my first, but now I understand what she means when those horses really do have a special place in people's hearts. They make you believe there is hope. Props to you American Pharoah--the American Phenomenon.
“American Pharoah makes his run for glory” “and here it is, the 37 year wait is over, American Pharoah is finally the one, American Pharoah has won the Triple Crown !!!!!” absolutely brilliant race calling by Larry Collmus, gives you massive goosebumps, and brings tears of joy to your eyes!!
The last Triple Crown was nine months before I was born. I didn't think I'd ever see it again after seeing so many horses fade in the last 1/8 mile. I thought the sport had changed too much and the horses couldn't be trained to do it anymore. But he made it look easy. It's not every day you see someone live up to the hype, but this horse is every bit the worthy successor to his fellow Triple Crown winners.
jesusthroughmary there are 6 mile horses races that happen and 3-4mile races every week , horses cant be trained ? fade ?.. and how did you see a race 9 months b4 you were born.. no offense bt you seem a bit dense..
Yesterday in the coverage they mentioned that early on it was noted that he had a very easy gliding stride, and it's totally evident. Watch closely as they come down the back stretch. He takes pretty much one stride while the other horses almost take two. It's like a study in efficiency of motion!!!!
Born and raised in Kentucky the love of horses and horse racing is just something in our genes. I remember Secretariat, I was 8, Seattle Slew, I was 12 and Affirmed I was 13. I'll be 50 in a week and the greatest present I could have was seeing American Pharoah win the Triple Crown. Over the last few years I often wondered if I'd see one again in my lifetime. What a truly amazing horse, jockey and trainer. Way To Go, American Pharoah!!!
Still love watching this even all these years later. Growing up listening to my dad talk about Secretariat and Seattle Slew, and how long it had been. Seeing the heart breaks of Smarty Jones and Mind that Bird. There was that thinking of “it’s never gonna happen again” Then watching American pharaoh finally do it. It was so exciting to finally be alive and see a Triple Crown winner!
Still hard to not get teary-eyed watching this race. I was born in 1996, and can remember watching Funny Cide, Smarty Jones, Big Brown, I’ll Have Another, and California Chrome all fall just short of the Triple Crown. I wondered if I’d ever see it happen, and then American Pharoah came along. I still remember him entering that last stretch, watching it on TV at my house, knowing this is the point where so many other horses fell short. Pharoah’s lead continued to grow over Frosted and I knew he had it. I was jumping up and down, hugging my parents, shocked and amazed that I had just witnessed the 37 year drought come to an end. Larry Collmus was right, American Pharoah truly is the “horse of a lifetime!” Hopefully Bob Baffert is able to pull it off again with Justify in a couple weeks!
I have been watching horse racing since I was a kid, I remember seeing Sectratist win the Triple Crown. Congrats American Pharaoh, what a great horse and race!!!
I was born in 78 and as a racing fan I always felt it was such cruelty to have just missed seeing a TC winner. And now American Pharaoh in almost messianic proportions makes me witness something special. Something I'll remember for all time. We may not see one again for 37 years people. Soak it in. And to those calling for the cheapening of the crown by changing it.....This is why you don't. Because American Pharaoh wears his crown without an asterisk!
Raymond Ormaza I absolutely agree! Don't change the track. You will only de-value something that is highly sought after. I think more sporting events should follow the Belmont's standards of excellence. It'd be a sad day if you took the tradition out of the event.
TC stands for 'Triple Crown'(ie comprehension). "I was born in 78 and as a racing fan I always felt it was such cruelty to have just missed seeing a TC winner." This of course is a reference to *Affirmed*, not *Secretariat*. BUT, through intuition and not knowledge, some clamoring jabroni comes along and alludes to Secretariat, completely irrelevant to the OP as they *try* to contribute to the conversation in some way. THEN, this guy comes along, this 'ROB C' guy, who actually comes here to support the a) wrong b) inaccurate c) flat out ignorant allusion to Secretariat. Rob, in your quest for "'reading comprehension'," I strongly recommend 'Power' by Robert Greene and 'Think Twice' by Michael Mauboussin, because when suggestively insinuate others have no "'reading comprehension'" in an effort to defend those who are *wrong*, it's actually irrefutable proof that your brain is operating in deconstructive functions. I have *hope* for you; good luck.
I get cold chills watching this then I start crying. I never thought I would live to see another Triple Crown winner after so many years. Thank God for this amazing horse and his amazing jockey.
What an amazing moment in history. I was watching at home with my parents. My dad is a MASSIVE horse racing fan, as he spends many Sundays at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I remember we were all on the edges of our seats during the entire race, and when that horse crossed the finish line, we were all crying and very emotional. My dad thought he would never live to see another triple crown winner. And wouldn’t you know, it happened again the next year!
Congratulations American Pharoah! You are now an immortal legend. I was beginning to think another Triple Crown would not happen during my lifetime. Even though I was alone in a room when I watched the race, I gave him a standing ovation.
I'm 67, been in bed sick 11 months but was on my feet yelling, cheering, crying! What a horse! Made it look like a walk in the park! We need heros and we got one! So happy for jockey, trainer, owner!!
I remember watching this live. There's nothing like it! It was SO amazing seeing a horse win the Triple Crown right in front my eyes. After the sad results of Barbaro and Eight Belles, this was such a relief. My grandfather heard Seabiscuit win on radio in 1938, my mom watched Secretariat win on tv in 1973 and I got to watch American Pharoah win on tv in 2015. I'm so glad all three of our generations got our own dose of epicness:)
I never really pay attention to horse racing, except to see if a horse wins the Triple Crown. As a 14 year old, I have to say that this is probably the greatest sports moment I will ever witness live in my life. Even if another horse wins the Triple Crown soon, it won't be the same because of the 37 year drought. As I said horse racing really doesn't interest me but this gave me goosebumps. Amazing.
You can't really say this is the best sports moment you will see in your life when you're 14 lol ya it's great but a lot can happen in sports in the next few decades. still best sports moment you will ever see is kinda stretching it. It is the best horse racing moment you have see in your life but stop and think about it. you're saying the best sports moment you will see in your life is a horse winning the 3 biggest races in horse racing and being 3 years old and being a complete breed. yay. No hate don't take this the wrong way.
I remember watching this with my grandmother who has since passed away. Her and my late grandfather were life long horse racing fans and I remember this being one of the only times I ever saw her cry. Arguably the greatest sports calls of all time, I get goosebumps every time I hear him say "American Pharoah is finally the one!" She loved this horse
Never thought I'd see a triple crown race in my life. I'm glad I got to see one. It gave me goose bumps. There's something about American Pharaoh, he's an amazing horse. He did it! After 37 years of waiting American Pharaoh is next in the history books after Affirmed to win the Triple Crown.
I was born and raised into the sport via my father, may he and my mother RIP. They were alive in 1978, we were together and my father and Steve Cauthen shared his cake crumbs in the jock's room at Latonia/Turfway Park when he returned to Kentucky. But now my three sons and one tiny grandson have a Triple Crown champion in their lifetime. Salute Tradition, Excellence and Life Blood. Gratitude to owners Ahmed, Joanne, Justin... The Zayat Family, trainer Bob Baffert, jockey Victor Espinoza and our equine hero, American Pharoah. Congratulations to us, it's a feel good moment forever. #DDay 2015 Blessings to you ALL.
Joshua Martin I certainly hope they'll at least keep him racing until the Classic. I know that at this point it's a cost-benefit question for the investment and risking an injury... but I just really want to see if he can take the season on in full.
Roscoe Fauni I don't think so just because they're going to want to give him a shot at the Breeder's Cup, and he'll have to have a stakes race between now and then to keep up his fitness. But he's pretty much guaranteed to be retired afterwards. It's a shame they don't have longer careers these days, but the breed has been linebred back to Northern Dancer so much that they're too unsound to take the risk.
Loved it!...Catch me if you can, A.P. seems to say from the very beginning .. with such calmness and ease. He seems to have a such a comfortable stride compared to some of the competitors. Great race. Even GREATER horse.
I'm only 20 and this is probably the only time that I have seen something truly beautiful happen in my life time. Watching Secretariat win the triple crown, the first man to walk on the moon, the Miracle on Ice. All are moments that people will never forget and cherish in their hearts and even bring a tear to your eyes. I'm not even a huge horse racing fan, but there's something about watching an amazing horse win the triple crown that's almost surreal. It was a beautiful experience and I hope to have many more experiences like this in my life.
I was about 1 year old the last time we had a Triple Crown (Affirmed in 78), so this was truly an incredible moment. Thank you AP for creating a moment that I will always remember.
Mike L Yes, and last night ESPN kept saying American Pharoah had second fastest time after Secretariat's 2:24 flat (imagine if Turcotte had needed to urge him at all, 2:23, 2:22 ?) I think Risen Star did 2:26 and 2/5 in 1988 and Easy Goer did 2:26 flat in 1989.
This was one of the best days of my life. I will always remember watching on TV at home tearing up when he crossed the finish line, knowing I just witnessed a TC winner, something people kept saying I'd never see in my lifetime. Let alone two in the past four years now.
"Hey, American Pharoah...YOU JUST WON THE TRIPLE CROWN! What are you going to do now?" That was spellbinding... ❤ *I'm so glad he was able to run his best when it mattered the most!* I'm sure if the people there could take their eyes off of him during his victory lap for just a second...and take a look up above them... The clouds above might look familiar... ...like eleven giant horses galloping across a sky with three crowns of golden sunlight beaming... ...all knowing that a great has joined their immortal company. Nearly a hundred years...and now the champion of champions now number a dozen. *Magnificent!* ❤ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were all watching it as a family. Of course this horse caught my attention after the Kentucky derby and I fell in love with him! Previous years I jinx every other horse I ever fell in love with like Funny side, Silver Charm, War Emblem to name a view but there was something captivating and different about the Pharaoh, and when he was in the lead especially down the stretch I was crying! I thought I would never see a triple crown winner in my life time! It was so exciting!
I have watched this over and over. A triple crown winner American Pharoah and his great jockey Victor Espinoza. American Pharoah now you are among the greatest.
I have watched this race over and over and the tears flow everytime! Iam 30 so this is my very first time seeing a Triple Crown in my lifetime and it is amazing for horses racing as a whole. Congrats to American Pharoah and his connectioons - his trainer Bob Baffert deserves his and his owners are a class act who really care for their horses and the sport of horse racing.
My dad, a huge horse racing fan who took me to the track dozens of times when I was a kid, passed away just a month before this race. He would have loved to watch it. I cry every time I do.
Remember watching this from my apartment after a day of working on a horse farm in Lexington, KY. As I watched them go half way through the mile and a half, I exclaimed to myself "He's not even TRYING yet!!! Oh my LORD, he's gonna do it!!" I giddy cried for like an hour after this. :)
32 years old. Grandmother used to live very close to the track where Belmont is held. Grew up hearing stories, ghosts of the past since I was born in November 1982 and the last to win was in 1978. Grandma used to wax lyrical about Secretariat's win, but as each year passed I thought I would never see such a race myself. Today, Secretariat must be in heaven looking proudly at his descendant American Pharaoh-"Well done, my boy. I told God you could do it."
Chills every time I watch this! Brings tears to my eyes too. Even Justify! How amazing to witness 2 triple crown winners in a lifetime. The 37 year wait with AP... wow!
After watching Justify,I just have to remember when I witnessed AP in person at the Belmont. First horse race I've been to, and I witness a Triple Crown: how lucky can you get?! True story, by the way. My family and I were said to be the best dressed at the race by someperson, and we were in the far left of the clubhouse. I remember as clear as day.
I've loved horse racing for as long as I can remember. I had never seen a Triple Crown win, having been born in 1987. When American Pharoah came into the final stretch and let loose I cried my eyes out. It was so beautiful, such a stunning feat I thought I'd never see in my lifetime. American Pharoah's win was more than just a horse race for me. It was very special.
I think everyone misses the true point of Secretariat's real victory. The time is a record, yes. Several horses have come close to it. The REAL awe & wonder of his victory was the 31 and a half lengths that he won it by! THAT is what makes him the Wonder Horse.
@@suehart3965 No horse has come close to his time. Secretariat ran 2:24. The second fastest time was Easy Goer in 1989 at 2:26. Had Secretariat been running against Easy Goer (the second fastest ever) that day, he still would have won by 10 lengths. And what I really would have liked to see is what he could have done as a 4 or 5 year old. That’s when thoroughbreds peak. Why they run the Triple Crown races when they’re 3 is stupid. The horses are too young and immature at that point.
@@Whoopdido777 Yes, 2 seconds in a horse race is an eternity, I'll admit. But not in real time. But when I said many had come close, I was talking under 3 sec. from his time. But I still say, 31 lengths is still what is phenomenal about Secretariat. And yes, I, too, would've loved to have seen what he could've done as a 4 & 5 year old! Secretariat will always be considered the greatest of all time in my eyes. Ciao!
I have been around for Secretariat Seattle Slew and Affirmed triple crowns and was starting to think I would never see another triple crown winner. AP what an awesome race and horse. Congrats to his team. Way to go guys!!! I won't forget this race. It brings me to tears...so special!!!
The last time there was a Triple Crown winner, I was still in college...Jimmy Carter was POTUS, the Yankees were World Champs, the Dallas Cowboys had just won Super Bowl XII..
Shit Disturber I was thinking the same thing. Heck, between 1973 and 1978 there were THREE Triple Crown winners - and two of those were two years in a row, 1977 and 1978. It's not as rare as the 37-year drought makes it seem.
Sarah B The sport has evolved since the 70s hence the 37 year drought. There is a lot more money involved nowadays so there are a greater amount of competitive horses each year
