Depeche Mode is the definition of synth pop. You think it sounds like 80‘s? That’s because they defined the sound of that decade. Absolute giants since 40 years.
Depeche Mode has so many songs you should react to. Like "Just Can't Get Enough", "Master & Servants", "Strange Love" and "It's No Good" just to name a few.
Saw Them last summer at parken stadium in Copenhagen, 48000 people having The Time of their lives, This band is after 40 years still among The 5 best live bands in The World🖤🔥 and This is from a metal guy.
I went to a Depeche Mode concert my Senior year of High School (1997) & it was awesome! 🥰 Depeche Mode, Erasure, Beautiful South, Tears for Fears, The Smiths… Pet Shop Boys! ❤ Wow… these bands were the soundtrack to some of my High School years! I remember spending hours burning playlists on CD’s of all these bands! 😂
The crazy thing about this band, is that they started in 1981, and almost every year in the 80's they released an album. They struck commercial US success with the album previous to this, in 1988 and toured a 101 concert streak across the country ending in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. In the early 90's they began their 'album almost every four years' trend that has carried on to current times, with their latest album that just came out last year. 40 years of constant albums. few bands can say that.
This song was recorded 1989 and released 2/1990. Love this album. Their song “Somebody” was my first dance with my husband at our wedding. I also love the deep cut “I Want It All.”
Was our first dance too, my sister also chose the lyrics for of our readings. Was fortunate enough to see Alan Wilder perform it with them at the Royal Albert Hall not long after our wedding.
Saw Violator tour in 1996. Junior in HS. K ew every word all their songs. Somebody was on repeat for so many years. Li e shows unreal. Check a live version Personal Jesus?❤❤❤ welcome to the founders of the synth tech world. More Dee pech mode!
DM redefined music back in the early 80's. The Cure - Kraftwerk - New Order & Depeche Mode are pioneers of this sound. DM went from being called a "One Hit Wonder," to releasing multiple hits & selling over 100 Million records. Inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame & to this day is the most covered synth pop band in history. They have influenced thousands of bands. They are absolute legends. I saw them live 3 times in 2024 alone! Incredible band live. - A song I would highly recommend off of the same album as "Enjoy the Silence," is "HALO."
error: you have to listen to Depeche Mode with headphones, because of all their mixing creativity in terms of panning, 3d effects...etc We're talking about 35 years ago. This song was an absolut classic, big hit at the end of the 80's.
You got it right... It's a French name meaning "Fast Fashion" ("deep - esh mode") even though the band is British... They debuted as an electronic synth pop group in 1980... 'Enjoy the silence' was from 1990 - it became one of Depeche Mode's biggest singles from the iconic album 'Violator'... which also had the hit singles: "Personal Jesus" ... 'Halo' ... 'Policy of truth' ... 'World in my eyes'...🔥🔥
I have bootleg tapes of early gigs where Dave Gahan clearly introduces the band as "Dep-esh-ay" Mode with an accent, but they reverted to "Dep-esh" quite early on...
This whole album (Violator) is fire. That album and their next one (Songs of Faith and Devotion) are masterpieces. And few can top them live in their prime.
I remember seeing this guy's in a pub and their music was fun back then. The 80'a and 90's was a brilliant time in the UK as everyone was so accessible, played clubs, pubs and such...the best of times.
Beat has not aged. Depeche Mode were ground breaking, and were part of the early Alternative scene which created numerous iconic bands that still play today - and all if not most, in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame - Depecehe Mode, the CURE, New Order, Echo and The Bunnymen, and a few others....
This has been my favorite band since my friend from the UK, who moved to Canada when he was young, brought his music collection with him and introduced me to their music in the later 80's. I have seen them multiple times in Canada and the US, and in 2017 I flew to see them at the Olympic Stadium in London, with VIP early access tickets. Me and about 40 other people got lead onto the stadium field a couple hours before the concert and were allowed to set up our spots at the stage front for the show. Looking back, during the concert, and seeing near 80,000 people behind me, packing the stadium, was the absolute best time in my entire life.
Welcome to DM. Deeeeeep rabbit hole of amazing f'ing music. Trust your instincts, you pronounced it correctly, De-pesh Mode. Some of my faves, nowhere near all. Personal Jesus A Question Of Lust People Are People Master and Servant Stripped
Good Choices , this is one of my fav bands , saw them at the legendary Rose Bowl concert in 88 , such a great concert . I am so happy BP checked them out !!!
@blurpledragon2779 I'm jealous! I've never seen them but would have died to go. I can't go any longer, sadly. I just wanted to hear Dave's voice flow into me the way only a live concert does.
Depeche Mode was my favourite band in high school! I still remember hearing them for the first time! I had their CASSETTES! I still listen even though I think there are only two remaining
Flew from Tulsa to Dallas after work to catch this concert in '92 ish. Rode back to Tulsa in the back of a truck with my friends and was back at work at the bank at 8am. Oh, to be young again.
I feel like this was their best album. Almost every single song is a banger. This band was way more popular in Europe than they were here in the U.S. You were wondering about the vocals ... Dude sounds just like that in very song. Top quality every time.
Depeche Mode started in 1980, first album was out in 81 and they have continude and are still making music and touring to this day! They are truely one of a kind!
❤😊 Yep, first heard them in Germany...1990 I think...bought their cassette and just about wore it out listening to them daily. Good stuff. Thanks for reacting 👍
Depeche mode are brilliant. You should also check out "Shake the Disease", "Personal Jesus", and "Free Love". They were big in my country in the 90s, when I was a teenager.
They were definitely products and pioneers of the early 80's New Wave movement that came out of the UK. This band specifically favored synth because as teenagers, the original band mates weren't allowed to make too much noise in the house, so using actual classic instruments was not in the cards. They did incorporate them in the later 80's as their success grew. That straight synth has become a hallmark sound for the band over the years though.
This is one of the BEST bands ever!!! LOVE them. This song always makes me dance. I’ll be on the train just bobbing and singing. I don’t care who’s looking 🤣🤣
From the 80s to today. They are still outstanding. Check out before we drown, wrong, home, personal jesus, barrel of a gun, always you, walk in my shoes.....oh there is so many.
Love this track but my fave by Depeche mode is definitely PERSONAL JESUS, the driving groove on it is epic! Hope you get round to it. :-) I really enjoy your enthusiastic reactions, sending love and appreciation from Sunny England 🤩
I watched this video like 6 times bro i love how as the song goes on u love the song more and more. And when u wanted him to sing more at the end that was awesome
MY FAVORITE BAND since the age of 16 .. I’m still a huge fan… ICONIC 80’s Nu Wave band… from the UK …. They just finished their world tour last year to sold out Arenas around the world… the music catalog is amazing…. BEHIND THE WHEEL is a great track too…
I spent 28 hours (14 hours each way) on an overnight, cross-country bus to see these guys in concert. Let me tell you, it was worth it. I had never been to anything so otherworldy(?), nor have I since. Everyone dancing, but still focussed on the stage. Hours of being transported from reality into the feelings, emotions, and movement. It was incredibly immersive. These guys and many others like them were the reason I emigrated to the UK.
Love the lyrics. Take what you want from it either a love interest in your arms or a drug your addicted to. Works seamlessly for both. Brilliant piece of art.
Great choice! Depeche Mode one of my favorite bands...and you said it correctly. They were considered New Wave back then. This is my favorite album of theirs and my 2nd fav song on it. To the "Policy of Truth", my favorite..words are great to that also. And to answer the question, this came out in 1990. Another 80s great one is "People are People"..also fabulous song! ❤
DEPECHE MODE is my second favorite band of all times. I have this song with their name tattoed on my lower arm. DM-Enjoy the Silence w the rose. They are a masterpiece as well. I was released in 1990.
What I love about the 80's specifically New Wave is that artist just interpreted their songs in their Own (distinct authentic) Voice. No One was trying to OUT Sing or OUT perform each other with vocal gymnastics and histrionics. It never occurred to me that that would ever be a thing and it makes me wish that that was not the case in modern music.
Saw them last year and loved every minute of. One critic said "Even if sentimentality remains part of their draw, in 2023 Depeche Mode can still put on a show that reminds its audience that great songs transcend aesthetics, fads and even eras."
Yes, this was big. The song and the band were huge. Absolute megastars. This is the category pf band and song where it is hard to believe that somebody never noticed it before. If you liked it, Depeche mode is a band with many megahits. I think "Personal Jesus" might be a good one to react to. They also do very good concerts and there are excellent live versions of their songs. I personally love the gentle live version of "Shake the disease", which also has beautiful lyrics.
i was obsessed with depeche mode (in addition to joy division/new order) in high school (in the early 2000s). found out later my mom loved them when she was in her 20s. their stuff did and still does stand the test of time.
DM is one of my top favorite bands from college days. I can't even count how many time I saw them live. Their was a movie in the early 80s called Summer Lovers and DM is played in the background of a scene. Just Can't Get Enough caught my ear and I searched out the band.
The best version of this song is actually a live version. DEPECHE MODE - ENJOY THE SILENCE (LIVE IN BERLIN) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--_3dc6X-Iwo.htmlsi=wbascPlzk4NE2rw2
This was #1 on MTV for a few weeks back in 1990. Depeche Mode have been around since 1980ish and they are STILL playing in 2024!! I am stunned that you have never heard of (Depesh Mode-phonetically) before now. Depeche Mode & Toad the Wet Sprocket are my 2 favorite bands that I listened to in college. I saw Depeche Mode in Madison Square Garden in 1993. The concert was unbelievable because they had speakers EVERYWHERE. I was near the top tier, but it felt like the band was next to me because Depeche Mode added EXTRA speakers throughout Madison Square Garden.
i saw them live on the Songs Of Faith & Devotion tour n 1993 and then for the 2nd time in Madrid in 2018... still killing it 25 years on - savage band 😎🤘 R.I.P. Andrew Fletcher Respect & Paece☘
Dépêche Mode was the name of a french fashion magazine back then... They have a fanbase of hundreds of millions sticking devoted to them since 40yrs... it wasn't mainstream back then - it is indie, influenced by Kraftwerk, David Bowie and more... Dave back then was highly addicted to heroine - which was in his arms... he was clinically dead four times and survived... Been at every tour since 1983 when I was 13 - it was my 24th concert with them tonight. My most beloved song: its called a heart Check out how the crowds are waving at every concert... especially with never let me down again
This is a band that reinvented itself at least 3 times: started as UK-weenie elctro-pop (just can't get enough); next phase was dark synch perfection (master & servant, violator and many others) and third came their Los Angeles heroin chic dark rock synth phase (walking in my shoes). During the early/mid 80s to the early 90s there were 4 UK bands that got pretty big eventually but started out sorta obscure especially in the USA: Cure, Smiths, DM and U2 ... and while anyone who adopted them early before they got semi-big usually liked more than one of them they usually had one of them that they identified with more than the others; the really introverted sensitive gothy types often loved the Cure most, the nerdy sensitive white guys like myself were Smiths/Morrissey identifiers and while i never knew a teens/20s ish person actually cool enough to identify with DM (many faked it or pretended to) they were the band of the coolest kid you knew who smoked and was a tortured soul (DM had lots of female fans who lusted for Dave Gahan) ... and mainstream dorks liked U2 who were the lamest of these bands by a country mile and couldn't musically or culturally hold a candle to any of the other three.
