Ren wrote the whole song...including Edens part. Just like he writes his own beats and produces his own music. Edens mostly did covers and hasn't done anything in a long while.

Ren and Eden Nash “Ocean” is one of my favorites by Ren.

I think it's important that Ren makes positive music like this as well as the music with darker themes that you don't seem to like as much. The fact is there are people out there currently struggling with the same issues that he brings up in those darker songs and if Ren only made positive music like this they wouldn't even be able to hear it because it would sound like it was coming from someone who they can't relate to. Now think about someone who hears about Ren's struggles in a darker song that they can relate to and then hears a song like this. He's demonstrating that he has been to the same lows that they have and he has been able to build himself back up and find a more positive and healthy way to live. That message would be incomplete without first connecting with them where they are.

Love this song, and Ocean (also with Eden) too. Glad you like it. Ren mentioned they recorded a third song together as well but sadly he doesn't have any immediate plans to release it. I bet he'd be thrilled to hear you talking about the song in relation to Lauryn Hill, since she's one of his favourite artists. It made me laugh when you couldn't tell if it was Eden or Ren singing! He's definitely got range. If I understood you right you're saying that Ren should only make positive songs as an example, and that all the 'mopey' stuff and anything negative is likely to mislead people? If that's what you're saying then I disagree. I think an artist's responsibility is to express themself truthfully, whether that be positive or negative, intellectual or silly at times. Ren is one of the most honest musicians I have come across, and isn't afraid to talk about all sorts of subjects that people often avoid. In my mind that can only be a good thing.

Ren's health issues have kept him from performing shows/tours. He's hoping to be well enough soon to perform some shows. I imagine it will be in a limited format.

I genuinely don't understand what you're looking for. You complain about Ren being "mopey" when he sings about tough things he's been through in his life, and you call him trash if he's having fun with silly wordplay and interesting beats and pockets. It's almost like you just want one formula only, but the reality is he's not constantly going to ride the edge of a little bit of depth and a little bit of bounce. That's only one facet of the Ren 💎

This is my favorite by Ren. I wouldn't say Su!cide is preaching that sort of behavior. When his friend jumped, Ren just missed being there. The beginning of the song felt like it was from Joe's pov, and the second half was Ren's regret and farewell to his friend.

Eden Nash's vocal performance on Humble is fantastic. However, Ren wrote all her lyrics. That said she delivered perfectly for him. Great track.

If Ren doesn't be like this he wouldn't be here where he is, so I also feel like this is how he really is and I love it. He's humble and works his ass off against all odds.

When Ren sings about suicide, it's almost always him singing about his friend who did ot when they were younger.

I remember he got an offer to appear at this years Glastonbury (huge UK music festival) couldn't do it as he's still going through treatment in Canada. But as his health improves there will at some point be a tour. I for one will will be at one of them for sure.

KSO you found the best of Ren. This track is an anthem.... "Humble Proud" is a phrase that has filled my conscientious for a while now.

He was not preaching a way out... he was showing the pain that Suicide leaves behind.

If you want more upbeat music like this from Ren check out Ocean and Losing It. All of his work with The Big Push is also super chill as well. (And filled with insane talent) One of my personal favorites is Freckled Angels which was written as a tribute to his friend Joe Hughes after his passing.

This is my favorite Ren song, for many of the reasons you mentioned. Power is second for similar reasons. The S word song isn't him giving up, I don't think. He mentions it was never the right time. Then with the ode to Joe he added at the end, he shows the utter horror and pain of leaving someone you love behind and making them go through hell. Honestly, I think he's trying to say that S is never the answer, even on your worst days, even when you can't make friends with the pain or find your power.

This is one of my favorites by Ren/The Big Push, but Ocean is rising up as another favorite, the more I listen to it. I actually like his "dark" songs as much as his inspirational ones, because I don't see the dark ones as depressing, but more cathartic, helping me release some of my own dark emotions and thoughts. I say that as someone who went through a lifetime of shit, starting when I was kid. My middle name was depression, which I was diagnosed and hospitalized for. Even though I've been on the upswing (out of depression) for the last decade or so, I still have to watch my thoughts and beliefs. Still have to face some leftover demons from time to time, too. Discovering Ren when I did seemed almost like divine timing in this process.

REN does not preach an easy way out! I assume you are referring to Su!cide and For Joe-he has said that his treatment of that subject starts out acknowledging that he often had those thoughts when he was suffering with his illness and not getting any answers from medicine or alternatives but after experiencing what his friend Joe’s self harm did to him and his family he could never do it himself or condone anyone else doing that. Please don’t spread the misinformation that REN condones self deletion. 😮

The music the production the lyrics all Ren Eden is a fantastic vocalist but giving her the credit for the message in this song is just plain wrong! Ren is the genius behind this masterpiece and Ocean.🤣❤

I tend to think that the songs that are strictly down and depressive are necessary when you juxtapose them against songs like this. It lets people know they’ve been the lowest they’ve ever been, but then in songs like this, it lets them know “I was there, but I didn’t stay there.” I think it tells people that it’s okay to feel things sometimes. However I do agree that if it’s your entire catalogue, it does kind of preach the message of always being down on yourself with no hope.

Context is King - he doesn’t preach an easy way out he talks about the pain of people leaving and taking the easy way out. He lost his best friend to the s word and it effected him profoundly. No one whoever truely listened to his lyrics would say he’s a proponent of insert s word -in fact the complete opposite.

No shows, as he cannot commit because due to treatment which is usually in Canada, no idea when it will be or how long it will take. Tough, but he keeps strong and focuses on his 'power' to keep going x

I enjoy your commentary, even when I sometimes wanna yell at the screen if you're dismissing Ren lyrics that mean something, from not knowing that they MEAN something. I enjoy those reactions anyway because I agree that you shouldn't have to LIKE a song if you don't know the backstory/relevance of the lyrics, if other aspects of the song don't appeal to you. (and I'm a Ren fan who actively dislikes LM4, so it's not that I think he's incapable of putting out music I don't like. Punchline rap & cringe lyrics don't appeal to me, and the rest of the elements of that track do NOT pull me in to make up for it either)
