One of the best jokes about Hockey I ever heard: - Near midnight on the Sixth Day, God was finishing up making people. The Archangel Micheal asked “What are you still working on?” God replied “I am making Canadians”. Micheal then commented “They seem like the most peaceful, polite, and kind people you will be putting on Earth”. Then God said with a smirk on his face “Think so? Watch this!” And God dropped a hockey puck in the middle of the Canadians…..
canadians love to laugh. i love corner gas. its a Canadian sense of humour. close to British humour. the kings of Funny are the people of Newfoundland and Cape Breton Island. i have also deserved when translated from French to English. Quebecers are funny as well.
It certainly did hurt trade between the two countries for years after those comments. It actually took a Canadian politician showing up at the UN to do a public speech regarding the origins of the individuals.
We love Jim Gaffigan; I'd love to see him onstage in Canada poking fun at us. He's one of those comedians who is never mean-spirited (...hey, maybe that's why we love him).
@@Dimcle Since when? We was married (according to some other humour of his) to a Scandinavian. I can't remember which country exactly, Sweden? but it was right in some of his material.
@@Carrie-so3ro My apologies... apparently we're both wrong. I listened to a radio interview with him and I'd swear he said she is Canadian, but she's from Milwaukee. My bad. 🙂
The change between pre-911 and post-911 was one thing (and we all understood that), but the worse change was when Trump became President, that's when the border guards became unapologetic jerks. When I was a kid (80's) I lived in Montreal and we had a cottage just across the border on Lake Champlain in NY. We'd spend our weekends there and crossing the border was SO easy. We'd pull up, the guard would say "Y'all born in Canada?" we'd say "yes" and they'd say "welcome to NY, have a nice time."
63 year old Canadian here. Jim Gaffigan is hilarious!!! As Canadians, we don't take each other really seriously and love comedy! Having lived in the Palo Alto,California and Princeton NJ on a green card (1969-1975) (ages 9-15). My father was a university professor. I have never had any issues with Americans. There are, however, subtle and some not so subtle differences that can be poked fun at in good taste, of course. We have and will always stand by your side in any conflict. The one thing that really kills me, though, is how politics have pulled individuals apart. In Canada, i can have a healthy debate with friends who support any of the (5 total) apposing parties without coming to heated arguments. It is such a pity, and i was in the US during the President Nixon debacle. Love you're channel John!
Toronto ontario canada: Gladys Louise Smith (April 8, 1892 - May 29, 1979), known professionally as *Mary Pickford* At the turn of the 20th Century Era a Canadian motion-picture actress who was “America's sweetheart” of the silent screen and one of the first film stars.
Target made a massive attempt to expand into Canada. They bought up a creaky old Canadian national chain that was dying off because of demographic change, and re-opened them under the Target brand. Canadians, most of whom had crossed the border to go to American Targets at least once, were delighted by the idea, and expected the same as what they had seen in the U.S.. But they were gravely disappointed. The Canadian Targets were awful. Overpriced, poorly stocked, disorganized, and filled with crap nobody wanted to buy. The public recoil from them was so bad that Target hastily pulled out of the Canadian market. It was notorious as one of the biggest business blunders of the era, with Target losing a bundle. It was even worse than the notorious attempt of Starbucks to conquer the Australian market. In both cases, it was bad planning, bad business strategy, and total ignorance of the market they were entering. Canadians wanted Target to succeed, as they had a very good image of the company, but what they saw seemed to be a bunch of incompetents who thought they could get away with anything because we were just a bunch of hicks who wouldn't know the difference. It pissed Canadians off, and most people who made one visit to the stores vowed never to set foot in them again. A sad story.
I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but here in the Maritimes, Targets death bell rang before they even opened when the IWK approached them for support and they announced that they don't believe in supporting "small time, local charities". To the IWK. Ask ANYONE from all 4 provinces here, and they will tell you the name of a kid they know who was helped there.
@@WaiferThyme OMG --- not supporting "small time, local charities"!! I live 1300 kms away from it, and I've heard about Izaak Walton Killam Hospital for Children all my life. It's legendary, one of the most respected institutions in the country. Where did those guys learn public relations? The Vladimir Putin School of Business? Now the picture becomes clear.
Sears,Zellers,Kmart, metropolitan,Eatons, all stores I grew up with, I am 82, are gone! We have Walmart! We really wanted Target! 😢🇨🇦 We still have the Bay,but it is high end.
@@faithclement9935 The Bay was founded in 1670, so it's shown some ability to survive changing conditions. When I was a kid, I witnessed people paying for things there with beaver pelts. All the stores in the arctic where sold long ago to something which ironically calls itself North West Company . . . which was the name of the hated rival that HBC absorbed back in 1821. NWC actually still carries on the fur trade.
It’s all in good fun. Canadians tend to be self deprecating, so we love to laugh at ourselves as well as at others. I’ve seen some of Jim Gaffigan’s comedy poking fun at us and it’s great, so please do a follow up. Fair is fair, eh?!!! 😆
Wow… Target’s disastrous venture into Canada is another topic. lol. It’s a case study in what not to do, when expanding into another country. Great vid, John.
Like many brothers/sisters and good friends, we can poke fun and tease each other with tongue firmly in cheek! He was a funny guy! Target came to Canada and only survived a few months. It was a terribly-planned launch and most stores were grossly under-stocked. As you are no doubt aware, many Canadians who live near the border cross it daily for work, and many others certainly enjoy frequent shopping excursions when the Canadian and U.S. dollars have favourable exchange rates. Cheers, and thanks for some light-hearted humour (with a 'u')! 😉😃
We had one here in NL and the stock was .... spotty. It closed in less than a year and the company I worked for bought the building. It still has the balls out front.
Those of us Canadians who commuted to work in the U.S. have dozens of stories about border crossings, both sides. For the most part, the crossings were uneventful. But every once in a while you would come across an officer who was having a bad day. LOL Thanks John for your great videos. Peace. 👏👏🥰🇨🇦
Myself and my teen daughters made the mistake of crossing the border on our way to Alberta to try and avoid the flooding. Big mistake border guards where total ahs, made us and our two tiny dogs sit in their security area for an hour while they "searched our car" for no reason and of course they found nothing. For a country that touts its freedom all I've seen is freedom from intellect
Hello from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada... I will that we love our American cousins, and they contribute a LOT to our tourist industry here. But I still love to mess with them ;) One time a retired American couple who drove up from the States pulled over to ask me for directions as I was walking along a sidewalk. I gave him the directions he needed, and when he thanked me, he said "You can probably tell we're not from around here", and I replied "Indiana, right?". When he asked how I knew that, I said it was his accent. I'm pretty good at impressions, so I went through and did stereotypical impressions of US accents, and the tourist was blown away. When he said "And you figured out I'm from Indiana just from my accent?" And I replied "Yes, your accent, and the license plate on your car". Another time there were two retired US couples traveling together and were visiting Halifax. I stepped out for lunch one day and picked up a small personal pizza and was on my way back to the office. As I was entering my office building - which is part of a historical tourist site - I held the door open for the couples, and as they were walking in, one of the gentlemen jokingly said my pizza smelled good and that he was going to take it and eat it. Without missing a beat, my reply was "Ok, you can HAVE my pizza, but only if I get to lick your fingers. And THEN it's going to get WEIRD!". The two couples burst into laughter, and the man I was joking with starts slapping his friend on the back and said "See? SEE? I TOLD you coming to Canada would be FUN!"
I recently watched Jim Gaffigan commenting on Canadian geography. He had a better understanding of it than many Canadians do. I was impressed. He was very funny too. Weird Al also gets Canadian humour. His take on Green Day's American Idiot, as Canadian Idiot is well worth a reaction.😅
Funny thing, I'm always scrutinised more heading back north in case I had contraband food! Heading south about 80% of them nice. As for Target, there's a video out there on why they failed.
Honestly seems nice on both sides, unless ur brown. I travelled from Canada into us for a production in about 2017. One of our crew members last name was Naser. We got detained for hours. Waited under a picture of trump. I was boggled at the racism and no one seemed to care. I remember them calling him up “Naser!” they yelled in a condescending tone. I was sad
That was FUNNY! 😂😂😂😂 TY, John, for sharing it. Ps. We had Target in Canada and we kicked it back across the border so fast, most of their stores were still being built when they ran back home 😂😂 we LOATHED the Canadian version.
Target pulled out of Canada. John, your comment about crossing back into the US was interesting. I watch some travel vloggers and 3 of them are Americans who were RVing in Canada this year. They all said it was much easier crossing into Canada than it was returning to the US and the customs officers were not pleasant.
Target in Canada was a big disaster. There is a video about it. Canadians admitted that there Target stores in the States were better. The guy was intentionally naming a store everyone knows about that is not in Canada. Cross-border shopping happens enough that some places in the states used to advertise their sales in Canadian newspapers.
Crossed at the Peace Bridge, heading to see the Stones at Rich Stadium in 81,and the female crossing guard wasn't going to let us through because we hadn't booked a room to spend the night.
Oh God, John. Even before you needed a passport to cross, it wasn't pleasant. One evening, some friends and I were out for a rip (driving around) and after a while, we realized we were getting close to the border crossing at Ogdensburg, so we thought "why not? We'll go get some Yoohoo and other snacks we don't have in Canada." Well, the border agents didn't like that. Not at all. We were very suspicious, apparently, so they said they were going to search our car and our bags and they made us go inside and sit there while they ran background checks, for over a hour (I don't remember how long any more). Bunch of 18-20 year olds in mom's borrowed car. I wasn't even allowed to go to the bathroom without an escort. A male escort for a female, btw. Thankfully he waited outside the stall at least. They weren't going to let me go to the toilet at all until I told them I was going to pee my pants if they didn't. Holy cow it was such an over reaction. They must have been super bored. They kind of killed the whole mood. So, we found a grocery store, grabbed some snacks, enthralled the cashier with our Canadian $2 coin, the toonie, and drove back. The Canadian border agents just welcomed us back and waved us through.
We don't do the stationary target which is for the kiddies. Ours have to be moving in the bushes. A challenge(at least). Target took over the failing Zellers store & basically did NOT change the product line. They rebagged some products in new plastic bags with a cardboard logo strip called Target with a higher price for old c-rap.
Yeah, people act like Canada doesxnot have a big gun culture, but there is deffinately a sizable one. Not just hunters, but they do make up a large portion of it.
I LOVE Jim Gaffigan. 😂 Please do! It's a good special. There are lots of clips, but it's actually a whole special called "Pale Tourist: Canadian American".
About Target in Canada: Since so many Canadians shop at Target, Target decided to open a store in Sarnia, which borders Port Huron. Unfortunately this Target didn’t provide the same merchandise and what they did provide was more expensive. As a result, Canadians continued to cross-border shop and the Canadian Target closed. I don’t think anymore Target stores opened in Canada. As the poster said below, a massive blunder.
As a Canadian, I love Jim Gaffigan! Especially his takes on Canada and Canadians. He is hilarious. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at? I enjoy you videos John, you seem like a great guy.
Your take on your relationship with your brother & how you poke & tease each other a bit is EXACTLY how Canadian comedy (in regards to our American cousins) is MEANT to be taken. We make fun of you, but we make fun of ourselves JUST as much - & none meant in a bad vein (even if as you said there is some truth to it. It wouldn't be funny otherwise.) Despite our regular tease of you guys (because you are physically closest - & let's face it, you provide us with material 😉), we do love you.
We don’t have Target, we did for a year or two but it didn’t make money. I’ll just point out he did make fun of the Canadian Border agents too! We do love our cousins to the south though. A lot of Canadians have relatives that are Americans. It’s good clean fun and you were very gracious. Yes, you should show us the American sense of humour too. Turn about is absolutely fair play. Thanks John.
I'm Canadian and remember going to target when I was a teen but they all disappeared by the time I reached adulthood. It might be a fun topic to look into!
Target stores opened in Canada in 2013 taking over the old Zellers locations. Within two or three years Target failed, and closed all of their Canadian stores. Bad Business model, terrible inventory system, and not indicative whatsoever of the Target stores in the US in terms of inventory, pricing, etc. I guess Target USA figured they could just waltz into Canada and everyone would be impressed. Not the case. There's more than one very informative video on this subject.
Fun Fact: There are more guns per person in Canada than the US...we just tend to hunt wildlife more than each other. When i lived in L.A. i walked places with my guitar cops won't drive with guns.
Really? But I bet you have more restrictions on the types of guns and who can own them. Assault rifles and handguns are hardly regulated in some states. In NY we have as strict gun control laws as the current incantation of the Supreme Court will allow given their wrong (I’m a historian and lawyer) interpretation of the Second Amendment to our constitution and the very powerful NRA gun lobby. I’m not actually opposed to gun ownership, but I, like a majority of Americans, favor sensible gun control laws. I’d be interested to see what Canada’s gun control is like.
@@johnf-americanreacts1287 I grew up in the country in Ontario and we had a number of guns. Dad even had a rifle from the 2nd World War and i was raised knowing how to remove the firing pin to be stored safely. I'd only ever had a pellet gun myself and never owned one later...but was an actor in the 90's playing a bad guy and firing guns on TV shows and movies. I've walked some of the baddest streets with my guitar but the only ones that dared pull a gun on me were cops.
Canadians have NO problem poking fun at ourselves or having others doing it either - it just depends on if someone is trying to be MEAN or not. We would be fine if this humour that you just watched was directed at us. As to Jim Gaffigan's material on Canada - LOVE IT (& his other humour too.) We have no trouble being shown funny/silly/crazy things about ourselves as we tend to be a more light-hearted, accepting, humourous people by nature - in general. Of course there will ALWAYS be exceptions to any rule. If you haven't seen Jim Gaffigan's stuff, you SHOULD! It is RIGHT on target & very funny! As to Target. That was just an example used for an old Canadian preference of some to cross border shop. At that time we did NOT have Target though. It was here afterwards for a short while but did not do well here & closed down. (I personally found their prices too high for what they were offering.)
Crossing the border between Windsor Ontario and Detroit when I use to live there I was going to Detroit to a special church service in Detroit and they just didn't believe it even though I'm all dressed up and the searched my whole van it was crazy but coming back to Canada np issues
Last time I crossed the border...had no problems going down...but Canada did a total search of my truck coming back. Didn't find anything & they let me put everything back. I lived in Oliver & went down for cheap groceries! Lol Tks Canada.
yes, don't worry, we like to poke at you guys, and you like to poke at us--nothing bad here, we just have fun across the border. Don't take things too seriously & we'll do the same. Have a nice day, John. Target stores ?--they tried, but Walmart kicked them out to not lose their sales here. So yes, we had Targets for a few months, but Walmart didn't like competition. By the way, you need to practice your french, not bad, but there is room for improvement.🤣
As someone who was born in Canada and can count both Adams presidents, FDR, and Susan B Anthony as cousins (yes, really) - I am always surprised how many people on both sides of the border don’t realize how deeply intertwined our families and history’s are. Of the many times I have crossed the border into the States, two of my favourites are at a couple of the smaller entry points. Crossing into Glacier National Park once at Chief Mountain, when we were asked the standard questions about fruits and vegetables we realized we had some peaches in the cooler as we had just been camping. Our border guard thought we said pizzas and after a few minutes of confusion we were let through. Crossing into Point Roberts to go to the Breakers, when the guard asked what I had in the trunk, and I answered “just my regular stuff you would carry in a trunk” things got interesting. Back in the 90’s, us Canadians in the Vancouver area would go over the border so often we did give a second thought to what we had in the car. Good times 😊
Point Roberts, WA is a tiny little part (just under 5 square miles) of the US below the 49th Parallel South of Vancouver that has no land connection to any other part of the US. I lived in Tsawwassen (the Canada side) in my early 20s and we went down all the time to play pool at a tavern there. They basically just waved you in but you might get stopped coming back to Canada in case you were trying to sneak in cheap booze or cigarettes or cheese, etc... The Canada-to-US routine was always: "Q: Citizenship? A: Canadian; Q: Purpose of your visit? A: To play pool." Always. Every time. Then, one day, the US border guard asked "Are you bringing anything into the US?" Huh? What? What would I possibly be bringing into the US that I couldn't get cheaper there?! It was really unnerving and, like the comic said, it was almost a panic thinking of how to respond and not seem guilty! lol
You are a good man doing good work. (Like the rest of my American buds.) Thank you. I was born in Toronto and am Canadian through and through. I am 67 and have traveled the world. I have many friends in America. From Detroit to Phoenix to Savannah to Cinci. Here is my thought. Americans are somewhat xenophobic. The moment I, as a Canadian, go to America -- you are the best hosts and best people ever. Problem. The minute an average American puts one toe out of America --- they are lost. Worse. Americans tend to respond with arrogance to what they don't like or consider 'American'. Stop that. That does not fly in the big world. In short, I find Americans to be big, brash, wonderful, honest people. However, they need to learn history and be cognizant of others in this world.
I agree generally. It is true. The so called “ugly American” abroad. Of course there are exceptions. We are not all one thing or another. My wife and I are well traveled and always adjust our behavior to local customs and norms. I have seen English people behave badly in other European countries and thought to myself, they are behaving like Americans. But in fairness, it’s usually when they’re drunk. For myself, I make friends almost everywhere I go. I was once in France in a British ExPat bar, hanging out with some folks from Scotland. It was the Fourth of July, and some loud American came in and said to the British bar tender very loudly, “ happy Fourth of July”. I’m not sure if he was messing with the bartender or believed that the Brits would be happy to celebrate the day that they lost their colonies from Massachusetts to Georgia. I could see the bartender was not amused. I went up to him and rolled my eyes and apologized for my fellow countryman whom I didn’t know. I just wanted him to see a different side to Americans who travel abroad. We ended up laughing about it, he bought me a pint and toasted to our Independence Day.
I’ve been going to the US since I was a kid. Been in many states. I’ve always enjoyed myself and felt good being there. God keep my land glorious and free 🇨🇦 and God bless America 🇺🇸 🇨🇦🤜🤛🇺🇸 Peace 🕊 and strength 🦅 and God bless the farmers 👨🏼🌾🚜🌾
in my recent travels i've experienced the exact opposite. the two parties in front of me going through customs had to give full finger/palm prints for the customs officer, when my time came he asked where i was going i said denver for a concert and got my hands ready and he was ok go on through, you don't need to do that. every time going to the US is easier than coming back to canada, maybe it's because i'm coming back to alberta (ie. little texas) when i return but they are harsh as hell and always pat me down and do bag search and ask very many personal questions and hold me for like an hour and the same happens to my family and extended family. at least they don't ban us from the country for smokin weed lol
Interesting. I haven’t crossed the border except by plane in a long time. I’m sure the weed thing was awhile ago too. About half of the US states now have legal recreational weed and I think all states that border Canada do except North Dakota, New Hampshire and Idaho. Most of the states where it is still illegal are in the south.
I was glad to hear you stand for the non pistol-wearing people. It’s unfortunate that this aspect of your culture is what is most televised. That said, I was in St. Louis 3 weeks after the trade centres went down and it was messy to say the least. I asked someone at the hotel how far the arch was while considering going for a visit. The staff member laughed and said “not after dark”. Other than that and some others being denied at a bridge into east St. Louis for their own safety, it was cool. The people were very friendly and lit up when I said I was from MB, same for every other state I’ve been to.
That’s a good point. So many cops are very nice, even when they are going to give you a ticket, but occasionally you get one that is just wanting to bust balls.
Just a FYI about Target. We did have Target in Canada but it failed miserably. There are You tube videos about why Target failed in Canada if you are interested in watching and reacting to that.
yeah i borrowed my parents' car to go to Seattle and it took me 4 hours to get across the border, i bet they absolutely tore the car apart, but at least they were nice enough to put everything back in place
That is when you wish you were driving a manure truck loaded to the gills with pig manure. If you know what a pig sty smells like, this is 10x's worse. Just to find a nickel bag of weed.
One true story, like 5+ yrs ago. A women 9like mid 40's from I believe Winnipeg was crossing the border. For some unknown to me reason she had a jar of used motor oil in her trunk be someone had recently changed her cars oil..... She spent a week in a US jail while the USBP had it sent away to be analyzed.. I would say at least 40% of the men I've known in my life know what used motor oil smells like........ But, hey it's just a thought.
November 30 2000 was the last time crossing into the US from Saskatchewan into North Dakota.I made the mistake of admitting smoking Marijuana at some point in my life.I was 47 at the time. They fingerprinted me and took my mug shot and told me to never come back.
That’s crazy. So sorry for that. By the way, even though most states that border Canada have legal recreational marijuana, North Dakota is still not one of them.
Just a quick video reaction idea you should react to The Worst Natural Disaster in Canadian History (Ice Storm 1998) its a 43 or so minutes video but very interesting if you want
i guess we all have stereotypes about the others mostly cuz of propagenda and medias : bad news always make more interesting news so we rarely hear about normal people -.- about every american i know are decent nice people also. people only talk about the extremes or it sounds boring so we imagine the worst
Maybe comedy but totally real. first time crossing with my camper and they asked when was the last time you got fingerprinted? what? then do you have any fruits or vegetables and i said Iprobably should but no. Do you have any eggs or chicken, i said a few eggs and a frozen chicken leg. Well that was it, from there on i was treated like a criminal, they confiscated my passport and detained me asking all kinds of stupid questions. Where are you going , do you know anyone there , where will you be staying, how money do you have on you , how are you going to pay for things (money) , where are you going to get your money (my bank) when was the last time you had work done on your car.... and this went on for a hour and then they proceeded to search my van . I am retired born in Canada with no criminal record and was treated like a criminal because declaired that i had one non steroid injected chickens leg and 8 salmonella free eggs... WELCOME to the US!
If you want a real Canadian hero... the best we have comedy-wise--- go find Ron James. Most of our prominent comedians are from 'out east'. And then there is Jm.
Tagrt tried opening a store here in Toronto, but Canada has its own big box stores.whch are Canadian, and people didn't wan another merican big box store. so Target failed.
Last time, when I did return from Costa Rica via LAX with my US Citizen wife. She cleared the border in 10 minutes. Took me 4 hours. Canadian have no priority at the southern border. It looks bad for the US... Especially when they talk about ̶A̶s̶s̶h̶o̶l̶e̶ America First. I miss the connecting flight. She was in Seattle a good 10 hrs before me. I don't know if it was a Trump era stuff. But 6 border lanes for US citizens, 2 lanes for all other... These 2 lanes also providing absolute priority to airplane crew. I did cross from Montreal to New-York a month after 9/11 via airplane. A team of 11 with 8 Canadian passports, 2 British and 1 US Passport. Took 6 hours to get everyone to clear the border. For all that time, we have no less than 4 guards with no smile but M16 keeping us seated. I was the first cleared: 5 hr. I have to talk to someone over the phone. He told them that I was French-Canadian at 99% probability or better. That the first time they did smile. Apparently, St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu does not sound the same in my mouth. I have to vouch for all of them, including the US Citizen. Ya, crossing the border for a Canadian is sometime nerve racking.
Damn. I’m sorry for that. I miss the days when all you had to do was show your drivers license and you were good to go. It started with GWB and his patriot act and the fear of terrorists coming though across our borders disguised as Canadians. Crazy
I'm Canadian and to be honest, I find American border personnel to be more pleasant than the Canadians. The Canadian staff all seem to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed... snarly and rude. I once asked one why she didn't enjoy her job and she was completely taken aback. 😂😂
it all depends on the person at the both some can be nice some can be jerks for example: When my Dad crossed in the 90"s no passport needed when he got to the both the person asked my Dad his citizenship was my Dad said Canadian going to do some cross border shopping the person heard my Dad accent asked again where are you from my Dad said Canada then he asked were where you born the my Dad said England but became a Canadian citizen in 1969 then the person said you cant come in go back to Canada so my Dad went to a different crossing and got in with no problems when he got home he told us about this he said the first border agent he met that day had thicker Accent then me and i don't think he was born in the States
We love Americans except that they don’t know or maybe don’t care about anyone else. Hard to tell which one is true, but they are mostly good sports and have thick skins. Hey there are lots of things to poke fun about, NOT aboot, Canadians.🇨🇦
Lol, I know. I was making a joke. We say “tarjay” here as a joke to make a discount store sound more upscale by pronouncing it French. I guess the joke didn’t translate across the border very well. C’est la vie
No, Target failed miserably here. Also I cringed when you said the P word. Border guard being professional is fine... but Polite? Their our last line of defence against US visitors they shouldn't be polite... Unless... Unless polite scares the US people off.... 🤣
target was a huge failure in canada,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they tried to set up in Canada but Target failed in canada, lasted just a little over 2 years
Addendum. Target US bought and displaced Zellers in Canada. Bad locations. Poorly thought strategy. (Or as Bugs would say "stra-ja-dee". Gaffigan. Saw him in London Ontario Canada. His bit on Canadian provinces and flags was a bit demeaning and unkind. Not his normal trademark. Go watch that online and decide for yourself. For a guy who the Pope is enamoured of, I found it a bit like a slap. Still. Any guy who works and has 5 kids and a brilliant wife is to be applauded.
Sending love and respect from Canada. It is nice to have a "Big brother" protecting us... thank you! BTW... there is this little country that is kicking your worst enemy's ass... Russia wants ya'all dead. :/ I do not understand why you are holding back support for Ukraine...? Seems like you are kicking your own ass. :/
It upsets me so much. Not to be political but the truth is the far right Republicans in Congress are against support for Ukraine and the aid bill sent to Congress earlier this year was tied to a Mexico boarder deal that the Republicans and Democrats actually worked together on only for it to be sabotaged because Trump didn’t want to give Biden a political win on the border before the election so he told them not to vote for it. Poor Ukraine is paying the price and it hurts us all in the long run. The good news is the Senate is advancing a some 95 billion dollar aid package for Ukraine, Israel and the IndoPacific, 65 billion of which would go to Ukraine. It looks like Speaker Johnson is defying right wing hardline crazies and will put a similar bill to the floor of the house so it looks like it will happen soon. Johnson’s change of heart is not because he has grown a spine mind you, it’s because Trump now supports it because this bill is not tied to the border security bill and because it’s in the form of loans. The news reporting says Trump has changed his tune because he thinks if he wins the election he can broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russian and believes that Ukraine will need to have some strength in their bargaining position. The Biden administration endorses the deal because they can (and likely will) simply forgive the loans. The bill also allows the US the funds to replenish our stockpiles. Either way, the delay of these many months has hurt Ukraine on the battlefield significantly. It has been frustrating. Europe needs to do more too.
