Listened to the for the first time this year, when i took up walking. I just...kept....walking! His voice was so good for everything in the books. Now i need something else :P So i won't drop the walking bit, because my weight is coming back.
When Stephen mentions “Rory” at 11:42, he means Rory Bremner, a famous impressionist; he naturally assumed it was him on the phone, putting on an accent.
The shepherds watched their flock by night? In December? I think not. On a more relevant note I think Stephen fry is a national treasure and funny as hell.
nah, the jesus story is just another variation of a older story that existed a lot earlier in persian, egyptian and mesopotamian storytelling, only difference is, they managed to make a religion out of their version, thats all.
Love your reactions - your brain works like my son's and it's like having him back from Uni listening to your comments 😀 ... I am proud to live in Norfolk, Stephen Fry's home county - and to support the same football team as him (Norwich City). Stephen is (in my opinion) a national treasure. Thanks for sharing this 😀
The last thing 'Brian' sang on the cross was"Always look on the bright side of life..." And he was as real as Jesus, more so, because I've seen the film to prove it... 😎🤣🤣🤣
Well you do not have to believe in killing people to join the military. I love going into old churches (we have a few in the UK Conner), as Stephen says the architecture is wonderful. Shame on you Conner for not knowing Emma Bunton, Baby Spice. You must have had posters on your wall of them.
My Step-Father was deeply religious. I've never been religious. If you take the time and read various religious texts then you will find a few cross overs and how different ceremonies have all been combined over the years. Was there a man called Jesus? Probably. Did he give teachings on how we should be nice to each other and forgive people rather than fight them. Probably. Was he the son of God born to a virgin on Christmas day in a stable? Probably not. I will argue along side anyone who says that a person's beliefs should not be belittled. But when those person's start trying to force those beliefs and their way of thinking onto other people that's when it gets into wrongness
Loved that. U & Stephen Fry r excellent. Your brain works like mine. I think Jesus would be funny, wise, charismatic, charming and interested most in learning about you. Something tells me he, as a person, would be a great best friend. Take care McGibben from a British McColm!😊💕
He was real! But... he wasn't white, probably not born around Christmas time, his mother was not a virgin, he was neither the son of god nor god in human form, couldn't walk on water or turn water into wine. Ran from the Romans, hid from the Romans, captured by The Romans, killed by the Romans.
@@js0988 King Herod and Pontius Pilate. Look it up. Jesus was a historical figure who got the 'Roman Public Relations' treatment. Remember: the Romans went to temples because it was the thing to do; not because they believed Jupiter was a Sky God who threw thunderbolts.
@@roddo1955 yah...hahaha. any historical figure that can supposedly rise from the dead is not a historical figure, but superhuman...and that's not possible.
There’s no proof that god exists. There’s no proof that Jesus existed. The Bible doesn’t contain provable historic facts. Have a look at the great and funny tv quiz QI. Stephen Fry was the quizmaster.
We're hooligans are we? Do I need to come in here more often and comment instead of talking to you on discord? I'm going to find something to educate you about Jesus and pester you to watch it at this rate. Or dare you to sing along to the entirety of "wannabe" and watch you blush at the sexual innuendos 😂
13 years (k - 12) of private Catholic education & both sides of my family being devout Catholics....I can tell you that Jesus stood for LITERALLY EVERYTHING that the "church" actively preaches AGAINST. It's a complete mindfuck but that is EXACTLY what it is. Jesus, if he existed, was awesome but organized religion - particularly Christian & Catholicism is DEFINITELY NOT.
1:26 "He was real right, Jesus?" ... probably not no given the myth predates him by thousands of years in multiple iterations across multiple cultures, languages, eras, religions etc. He most likely was not in fact real. Irrespective of all the other nonsense attributed to him.
The Jesus of the Bible most certainly didn’t exist. A Joshua ben Joseph ..perhaps….a cult religious leader …perhaps….the biblical stuff…no good reason to believe it.
JC was a composite character. A bit like Robin Hood. Not real in an actual sense. This has been known by historians for decades. There is lots of evidence for this. You get other telling you that their favourite book is true and real but Harry Potter is just as valid.
You are right Conor Jesus is a true historical figure. Hundreds of people witnessed his Resurrection. That's where the word history comes from meaning, his story.. Jesus whom God sent. Who died on the cross and rose again on the third day for forgiveness of sins. For those who accept this gift. They are Justified in God's eyes because Jesus Paid the price for their sins. The last thing Jesus said on the cross was it is finished.
The last thing 'Brian' sang on the cross was"Always look on the bright side of life..." And he was as real as Jesus, more so, because I've seen the film to prove it... 😎🤣🤣🤣
There is very little evidence that Jesus existed as portrayed in religious texts like The Bible, Tanakh or Quran, but the character of Jesus Christ was most likely influenced by eccentric religious preachers of the day. There are a lot of similarities between Jesus and other prophets and preachers of various religions throughout history, like having disciples, being of a virgin birth, healing the sick etc.
There are two books who speak of Jesus historically, which is the bible that was written decades after he supposedly lived, and the Quran which is 500 years later ish. Other than that some historians assume there was a guy called Jesus doing his good and evil shit as the bible tells of, some don't.
If you mean the Jesus described and quoted in the Bible. Then yes, that person didn't exist. But there could very well had been a Jesus, a single person. That the myths were build around. Not claiming that is the case. But there were many Jesus-es at the time and "prophets" were very much in fashion. Scam artists and faith healers abundant. Maybe Jesus was just one of them. Had a tiny following. Because you have to remember that he wasn't popular at all in his time. Even got banned from his birth town because they knew what a scam he was. Became very popular later on when the Romans adopted the faith. A work in progress one might say ensued. Basically meaning that the church murdered everyone that didn't believe in the unbelievable. Now we are here and stuck with them. Because they are super rich. They don't pay taxes. Christianity has done very well for itself. The faith though is almost dead in Europe and when American schools begins to teach their kids critical and skeptical thinking. It'll die there too. Christians fight hard against educating people. They want to keep them ignorant and gullible. But it won't hold up. Christianity will die as a faith and just become another failed myth. Next up. Islam and that will die too.
