Its funny to watch how a people from USA are surprised by this. First its common sense and basic human decency to make space and let emergency vehicles pass cause you never know when you will be the one being transported. Second, its enforced by law, here in Poland its not just traffic violation to not let them pass, its considered a felony/crime, you will pay fine, in extreme cases you will loose your driving license for 12 months and you will have to pass driving license exam again and if your stubborness on the road will affect people lives(person transported will die or firefighter wont get to fire on time) then you will end in prison.

Excact same siren sounds in Germany on fire trucks and ambulances. They are usually called "Stadthorn" (city horn - the electronic siren with a more 360 degree angle, but less sound pressure) and "Landhorn" (country road horn - pneumatic, much louder but with general angle focused maybe 90-120 degrees to the front, so drivers on inersections farther away, and/or going higher speeds are alerted much easier; high sound pressure).

This is from the large road intersection "Gubbängs motet" (Macdonald place going north into Stockholm over one of its bridges and into the tunnels. This looks to be the middle of day traffic because it's really light. Had it been morning or afternoon it would have been choked. However there is a busslane going along the rout with the Macdonald that the ambulance most likely would have used.
@speedyjago
@speedyjago Месяц назад
The first siren is an electronic "city" siren. Loud but not overly so. The second one is the "overland" siren, usually put out by two sets of two air horns, one set each for high and low tone. Those are very loud and worst case able to harm childrens ears. Until about a year ago my volunteer fire department only had the air horn siren on our trucks and at night with little to no traffic we would only turn the sirens on a bit before intersections in order to not disturb the sleeping inhabitants. This intensive care ambulance is as heavy as most regular fire engines in Switzerland. Regular ladder trucks at most volunteer departments are usually 16 tons. Just today I went on a drive with our rescue/pioneer truck (12 ton). We need to keep used to driving these trucks when usually all I drive is a Skoda station wagon if I'm not using public transit (train, bus, tram).

I have actually seen a firetruck drive 20-30 km/h through a street smack full of people (pedestrians), everyone just moved away and let them pass, that was during a firework/waterfestival in Stockholm in late 1990ies. Sometimes people can cooperate...

lots of drivers stopped their cars at locations where there was no car on the opposite lane, so that the MCIU could "weave" through all available lanes. that is also the advantage if the traffic law dictates to *"enable passage to emergency vehicles"* instead of _"stop for emergency vehicles"._ as could be seen, making space was only possible by continueing to drive, creating gaps for other drivers to merge, or also driving over red lights. if all those cars would have stopped instead, they would completely have blocked many other drivers, and thus also the ambulance.

Funny you noticed the flags on the Circle K station. Circle K established themselves in Sweden by buying the station network off of the Norwegian brand Statoil when they pulled out of the gas station business. Part of the Statoil branding was that the stations should have a row of flagpoles. Now, what's the lowest number of flagpoles that could be considered "a row"? That's right, many of the station featured a row of three flagpoles. The day of the handover, the STATOIL flags came down, and the K flags went up. After two weeks, the middle K flag was lowered, at first leaving an empty flagpole, later adorned with some advertisement flag... 😁

As I understand it, this veichle is a mobile intensive care ward rather than an ambulance. While the ambulance is staffed with paramedics who are first-responders, this veichle has doctors and nurses working on the patient while it is on the move. Sweden is a large but sparsely populated country. Fully capable hospitals are only present in the major cities and some specialist units may only be found in a single hospital in the whole country. Veichles like this make it possible to safely move critically ill patients from any place in the country to those specialist units. This is for when a 30 minute helicopter ride would be enough to kill a patient.

In Sweden you're taught to make space for the emergency vehicles such as ambulance, firefighters, police. If not then you might lose your licence for a few months and pay a fine. It's also allowed to drive past a red light if that's the only way you can make room for an emergency vehicle to pass. The only thing is that it needs to be the only thing you can do (think like one lane way with walls on the sides) and it needs to be done careful to not cause another accident with the traffic that has a green light.

There's about 6 videos and i had to watch them all. The driver's handling of that vehicle in tight spaces was incredible. Most of the car drivers were well behaved but there were a couple who didn't seem to notice till the last minute. Also did you notice the Ford Ranger utes in the video you had up. Damn things are like a plague on the planet.

The "loud" siren is a pneumatic air horn, while the "quite" one is electric. The constant loudness of a standard four horn Martin signal is 125 dB, which is louder than the peak loudness of a Federal Q2B, you should be more familiar with. That's why you often see people covering their ears when a fire engine or ambulance is driving by in countries that use German two-tone sirens.

On the Highways in Austria, in case of Emergency we have a "Rettungsgasse" (Emergency Alley), every driver have to clear left or right (depends how much lanes) to make a driveway so the Ambulance, Police, Firefighters can drive through quickly. If you don't play along with it, you get a fine and this costs alot of money. The heavy sound of this truck on the highway - same sound we have on our firefighters vehicles.
@moondaughter1004
@moondaughter1004 Месяц назад
We have the same in Sweden. We have electronic screens with the speed limit and if they need to close a lane they'll put a big red X on the screen. They also put an arrow a few screens ahead to indicate that you need to switch lanes

Had to drive up on the Siderail on the local big bridge to get the Firefighters and the ambulances through. Its abit scary sitting with your Volvo 745GL with a 45 degree angle 50 meters over the sea, luckily for me i was alone in the car. ofc the firetrucks was Scanias as im Swedish and a westcoaster to. The reason i had to drive up on the Bridges siderail aka protection was simply due to it beeing under renovation so there was only 1 lane ope for both sides of the traffic to share. and since it was during summer the time i had been stuck up there was 4 hours. So basically it was either we get as much out of the way as every Centimeter counted or there might be fatalities. Luckily everything went well, turned out to be a house on fire which had spread to a small forest to and since it had not rained for a month the situation was rather dire.

Driving here (in Sweden, but Europe over all) is an expensive thing, not only do you spend between 1000-3000 euros on your license, if you wanna keep that, you need to stay out of trouble, as something "minor" in the US is considered a serious offense and will result in an automatic suspension or revokification of your license or even arrest. One example of this is running a red light, this would be considered a serious offense, which results in a fine and suspension of your driving privileges for 1-12 months.

This attitude is part of driving training in many European nations but NOT all. Think about it! Could be your family that needs help! Respect! Far too 13:10 little on the roads today. I think many drivers get their licence from a corn flakes box! When we have more vehicles on roads today. Allowing people to merge. And reporting bad driving is a must.

Driver: I f- don’t know, going to hit the pole College: He’s on his way up on the curve now, it’s room now (A direct translation he is saying it’s calm now = it’s room now) Driver: Exactly folded in the mirror to College: mmm Driver: Thanks thanks

One decibel level for populated areas and a louder one to be heard when you are on higher speed roads to compensate since road noise in cars escalate the higher the speed you drive.

There exist sort of 3 typers. One that is just transport for icu passagerare. Is bassically movable icu beds. Then its a emergancy responsen truck (this is probobly it) that is beasicallt one or two full service operation rooms. And the. Its also the emergnacy C&C that is basically more like a office. Those are often branded as Fire fighting in stead of ambulances.

I hate emergency vehicles coming up behind me. Especially before when I used to drive SCANIA 18m bendy buses and had nowhere to hide 😂 I have also driven emergency vehicles for the commuter bus company before with sirens and blue lights helping drivers in distress and at traffic accidents. So I know the adrenaline you get from driving fast with sirens.

I have driven this road many times, and yes my truck is smaller only 9.1m long, 2.6m wide and 3.2 high but seeing the emergency light coming from behind is stressful since if an ambulance you know it might be a matter of life and death and in some spots there is just no place to go, also in the tunnel with 2 lanes, had it been rush hour traffic both lanes might have cars standing still, would have made it way harder.

9:12, just before, in the tunnel, n the end of it (downtown Stockholm railway station, just before the tunnel ends there is an off-ramp, and just after it’s a double on-ramp. The truck driver in the white truck probably, take a bit of the on ramp to let the ambulance has a free pass. Great job. Specially then car drivers sneaks up on the right side ( blind spot) must pass the truck.
