Number 9 is Tavares VS USA, and its more than one goal in a single game. Canada was behind and went on to win. The net is empty because the US is down by one goal with a minute left. US pulled the goalie out to put in another skater and try to score.

USA was up 3-0 and Tavares scored 3 of the 4 goals. Yes the last one was an empty net. USA pulled their goalie so they could have 6 players on the ice instead of 5. It is a team's "hail Mary" hoping that havining 6 players moving the puck to the goal will get them the winning goal. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It means the defense is expected to keep the puck in the other end.

Added context to the Crosby goal at the end there. Not only was it the goal that won the gold medal (the most important medal to Canadians BY FAR) but it was on home soil, in Vancouver. The whole city was absolutely electric, never seen anything like it before or since. (Maybe 2011 but dont look into that haha) Also important is that this gold medal set the record for most golds by one nation at a winter olympics, which was especially notable because we came into these games having never won gold on home soil. While that definitely added to the moment, it probably would have been just as crazy in there if this was our only gold, if we’re being honest. Hockey is that important up here. Cheers from Van, love the vids.

I couldn't sit with a fractured foot without complaining, despite being commendable that's not an odd injury to play with in hockey. In 2011 just for the Canucks there was a broken foot, fractured foot, multiple broken fingers, 2x groin tears, broken back, many broken ribs, and six people required surgery after. All those injuries were just from the people still playing, and that's from one team in one playoff round.

Tyler you knuckle head! If a team is down at the end of a game, they can add an extra skater (non-goalie) by "pulling the goalie". Goalie goes to the bench and an extra attacker goes on in his place. This gives the team that is down by a goal or two 6 skaters against 5, giving them better control of the puck in the other teams end. This is almost always done when there is a face off in the other teams end as it could easily turn into a disaster if they do it when play starts in their end!

In hockey when you are down late you can pull the goalie and have another player on the ice. You can do it any time i suppose but the only time they might do it other than the third period is if there is like 2 seconds left in the first or second and also on what is known as a delayed penalty, because when the other team takes a penalty and doesnt have possession. when they get it is when the penalty starts so there is no risk of the other team scoring unless there is an own goal which does sometimes happen.

That 2014 Women's Gold Medal game is still the best hockey game I've ever watched, even though it didn't finish until somewhere around 2:30am eastern, but Crosby in 2010 is definitely the biggest individual goal in the time frame that video covers. For going older than the video covers: 2002 Men's Olympic Gold Medal game - any of them really, but the one that sticks most in my mind is the last one by Joe Sakic that made it 5-2. Wiped out any nervousness about the US coming back in the game. 2002 Women's Olympic Gold Medal game - Wickenheiser for the 2-1 goal (Notably the first Olympic Gold for Canada's men's team in 50 years, and the first for the women's team ever) 1987 Canada Cup - Gretzky to Lemieux for the game winner in the 3rd game in the best of 3 finals. The best all-around player ever to play to the best goal scorer ever to play. 72 Summit Series - Paul Henderson game winning goals in Games 6, 7 and 8. The game 8 winner is the biggest of the three (easily), but the game 7 goal was the better goal.

@@melgreier1630 Actually this may be the ONLY video that hasn't exasperated me to no end... I can't fault someone for not knowing about a sport and for the first time he didn't try to convince us that HIS total lack of knowledge about a topic is the yard stick with which to measure the opinions and knowledge of ALL Americans (or imply that something common to practically all nations EXCEPT his is an anomaly or a 'Canadian' thing).

World Juniors happens every year during Christmas break. It's a huge tournament for a large amount of players from a variety of Major Junior leagues (WHL, OHL, QMJHL, EHL, etc). It also plays a huge role in NHL draft picks. Some of the players I've seen are as young as 15. It's a huge deal.

@6:40 The empty net rule is used to allow a team to put an extra attacker on the ice. So instead of 5 attackers, they'll have 6. It generally gets used close to the end of the game when one team is down by 1 goal, in an attempt to tie the game to force over-time play. This does, however, leave the team vunerably to having an easy goal scored on them because of the lack of a goalie.

The John Tavares part consisted of 3 goals (a hat trick). He was quintessential in team Canada's comeback during that game. Since they were trailing, Team USA pulled their goalie for an extra skater, that's why there's no goalie

For starters, in the very first one, Jamie Benn was in front of the net, tipped the shot in from 'the point'. You have seemed to miss that. The shot was probably traveling at 85-90 miles per hour. Thanks for this.

Any Canadian who was invested/interested in that game (which was a lot of people) remembers where they were when Crosby scored the Golden Goal. I had to work at a drug store in the mall that day and couldn't actually watch the game, but shoppers and employees all over the mall were watching it if there was a TV within eye shot. No word of a lie, the ENTIRE mall errupted in joy when the goal was scored. "WE WON!!" could be heard from one end of the mall to the other. And that's how I found out we won the gold 😄 I'll never forget it.

Martin Brodeur is a Canadian from Montreal and possibly one of the best if not the most unique goalie in the history of the sport. Holding dozens of records such as most time on ice most goals by a goalie most shut outs most wins most goals saved etc. Should do a video on him. Guy used a hybrid style of goaltending. Also brought home 2 gold medals for canada out of 4 winter Olympic hockey seasons. Would have been 5 but with the devils making it into the play offs that year he was playong and wont the stanley cup instead of playing for canada for another potential gold medal. Not to mention the NHL literally changed the rules of the sport because of this goalie calling the new rule the Brodeur Rule after him.

One thing to keep in mind for some of these clips, they happened in FINALS during OT for the OLYMPICS ... it's quite literally PEAK hockey, scoring is REALLY hard at that level, that's why the plays might not be as "flashy" as other compilations, both teams are EXTREMELY focused and there's ZERO margin for error.

Shot gunned em and then we went downtown, people chanting on the skytrain ‘14 gold’ after winning our last medal, people singing O Canada, chanting in the streets, American fans in their Jerseys politely giving their congratulations (so they didn’t get mobbed). Probably the funnest day of my life

I caught your reactions to Canada's best goals. I applaud you for recognizing and keeping up with the speed of the game. One situation was when John Tavares shot multiple times, this can happen after the first three shooters have gone. The only time this happened up to this point. Then your questioning where the goalie was? Common strategy to pull your goalie for an extra attacker when you are behind by a goal near the end of the game. They had goals from women's hockey. In women's hockey Canada & USA are the top two teams in the world. Almost always they play each other in the Gold/Final game and they are very equal in wins! The #1 goal when Sydney Crosby scored it happened so fast that for a couple seconds Sydney was the only one who knew the puck was in the net! These particular Olympic Games were help in British Columbia Canada, we hosted the Winter Olympics that year. You did very well, thanks for the Reactions! Oh yes the USA Men have come on stronger more recently in Hockey. I think that can be thanks to The "Miracle on Ice" from 1980 when a team of relative unknowns beat the Russians in the Final to win the Olympic gold medal. The USA hosted the Olympics that year.

A shootout is a tie-breaking procedure used in ice hockey games when regulation time and overtime periods have ended and both teams are still tied. When a hockey game goes to a shootout, each team chooses 3 players who’ll take turns attempting penalty shots. The objective is simple: score more goals than your opponent during these attempts. The shootout continues until there’s a clear winner. If both teams remain tied after their initial 3 shots, additional rounds are played using a sudden-death format, where each team sends out 1 shooter at a time until a team scores. Shootouts provide an intense finale for fans, who watch individual skill battles between shooters trying to deceive goalies with dekes or quick shots. The goaltenders attempt to read their opponent’s moves and make exciting saves.

Just today, I remembered the song, "I've Got Canada In My Pocket," which my schools sang during assembly every so often. It's a song that goes over the symbols on Canadian coins and how they relate to Canada. Not sure if it's something you'd be interested in, but it's quite a catchy song, in my opinion. (It's an older song, too, so it also has the Canadian penny.)

This was still the Junior Hockey that we watched and it was about the hat trick which is 3 goals made by one person. So this was part of the one we saw prior. The USA coach decided to pull the goalie and this is why it looked like an easy goal. I like how you said "It was from downtown." Love it. Hockey Junior and other wise is big in Canada.

I remember Bobby Hull clocked slap shots at 60mph. That was in the days when only the goalie wore a mask. There's a reason they now wear headgear. Get in the way of a puck at that speed and your brains are pretty much mush.

#1 was one of the most unifying moments in Canadian history. Sidney Crosby was touted as the next Wayne Gretzky when he was drafted in 2005 and he was like 23 years old in this game. Jarome Iginla is regarded as one of the top well rounded Canadian players ever and is definitely one of the most respected players ever and was at the tail end of his career. Crosby shouts out "Iggy" and to have Iginla pass the puck to Crosby while enduring a hit and falling to the ice to have Crosby take that puck and drive the net to score was a literal handing of the torch to this young up and coming Canadian superstar. This play symbolized both of these incredible players defining characteristics on the worlds greatest hockey stage in the most intense moment possible. Put all of this together and this goal was all any Canadian could talk about for a week. Decades long provincial rivalries were non-existent for that week. Albertans cheered, high-fived with Quebecers and millions of people across every creed in Canada sang O Canada in unison when the medal was awarded. Many many Canadians still get chills (myself included) when they see this clip to this day because of its significance. I don't think this moment will ever be replicated.

As soon as you said " I cant keep track of the puck!" I started to literally lol. A few decades ago,American broadcast stations felt it necessary to put a little blue highlighter on the puck. It was hilarious! Not just for NHL games but world games as well. The uproar of laughter was huge. No, they didn't keep using it for long. There are plenty of hockey fans in the US. They didn't need those networks embarrassing them. It quietly dissapeared. Go Habs!

Whenever Tyler talks about hockey it's clear that he speaks American. He says : "ice skates" "ice hockey" hockey "match" He says "college" for university and Verse instead of Versus. Also, because he's not a hockey fan, he's unaware of the existence and enthusiasm of the American hockey fans. Lots of Americans love hockey, supporting 25 American NHL teams in the USA. 7 NHL teams are in Canada. Hockey match 😅 The goal was right off the tip of his pinkietoe 😊

The 2010 Olympics in Vancouver had the USA vs Canada in BOTH the women's and men's gold medal games and Canada won BOTH in overtime. I watched that game with a coworker at a restaurant in a very large mall. When Canada scored, the restaurant went completely nuts and we could hear people all over the rest of the mall doing the same. When someone started singing Oh Canada, the whole mall full of people (my guess would be several hundred) joined in and I was told it was loud enough to be heard outside. The USA vs Canada in both men's and women's hockey also happened in 2002 in Saly Lake City and Canada won both that year as well (the Canadian women's team played almost a full 20 min period short handed due to some really bad refereeing but STILL managed to win!)

#6: Brad Marchand's World Cup winner was also "short-handed" meaning one of Canada's players was in the penalty box. "Power play" on the clock means that team has the usual 5 attackers but the other team only has 4 because one guy had to take a time out for being naughty. Also known as "a man advantage", it's a big opportunity for the team at full strength so when the short-handed team scores, it's a huge deal.

These are some great goals - especially Crosby's Golden Goal, which set off pandemonium across Canada: not only did we win the Gold Medal in hockey, it was the first time in Canadian history we'd scored more gold medals in an Olympics than anyone else (narrowly edging out the USA) But there are some incredible goals out there on RU-vid, just not all in a nice package like this one. Paul Henderson's 1972 game-winner over the Soviet Union to win the Summit Series. Mario Lemieux's overtime winner against the Soviets in the 1987. Lanny McDonald's final goal, in Montreal as the Flames defeated the Canadiens to become the first visiting team to EVER defeat the Canadiens on home ice in a Stanley Cup Final. It's a rich history, Tyler.
