To get the most out of Night of the Nearly Dead, you should be aware that the singing star in the episode, that all the old ladies are in love with, is based on the cheesy, Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell, who in real life is adored by old ladies. They queue at his home once a week and get a cup of tea and a photo opportunity with Daniel.

I've loved Father Ted for a long time and been with your channel for just over a year because of them. My favorite episode is Grant Unto Him Eternal Rest. I also just wanted to recommend Porridge as a show to do in the future, I love it more than all other sitcoms, and it has a great Christmas episode. However, some episodes do tie in with each other so I think its better going in order.

It's probably pretty obvious, but the context of Ted saying he missed the lights, noise and the buzz of the Big City, and then the reveal that he was previously in a parish in Wexford - Wexford is not exactly the least populated county of Ireland, but definitely one of the middle tier ones that is in no way in possession of a big city. The build-up would indicate Ted was stationed in Dublin, and even the Irish capital is no London or New York, especially then with a lower population (for context, the parish Ted was briefly in at the start of the racist episode was in Dublin). And yes, as others have pointed out, Gdansk is in Poland. Which yes, that means some people were flying all the way from Poland to Ireland's west coast to see a film full of nudity that wasn't being shown anywhere else. Go figure. As others have pointed out, Season 1 isn't up to the masterpiece standards of the next two seasons. BUT - it is very close, and these episodes are still great in and of themselves. For what it's worth, this is my favourite of Season 1, though a lot of that is rooted in the topical humour, both of its time and of the Irish, that probably doesn't 100% translate.

The hardware shop beside the cinema is called Brady's. I work with a girl whose husband has a hardware shop called Brady's. Mentioned the shop in the show to her and it's the same shop. It was filmed in Greystones. The shop has since been pulled down and replaced with a new hardware shop and apartments. The cinema is still there but closed many years ago. The scenes were filmed before the show was first aired and they had no idea what was being filmed.

The man who plays the cinema owner is Jon Kenny who also plays the sometime intelligible eurosong host. Jon Kenny and Pat Shortt who played Tom in the 'I shot JR' shirt used to be a comedy duo called 'D'Unbelievables' which was popular around the same time (prob why they were asked to cameo)

This is quite an early episode (S1:E3). There was originally planned a love interest between Fr. Ted and Mrs Doyle.... apparently, none of the dialog was removed from the scripts - but the plans weren't followed through for that plot line. This is probably the most obvious episode that hints at this.

You should react to The Young Offenders, a really popular Irish film and TV series. Just give it a try and if you don't like it, fair enough. Also, surprisingly I haven't seen anyone else outside Ireland react to it so you could be the first? You should react to the movie first if possible, but if not that wouldn't be a huge deal as there's not really a continuation of the story from the movie into the series

I thought of that too, but my take on it was always this: Ted uses the tape to bargain not to be sent a anywhere, then asks to be sent somewhere better, Brennan tells him to basically go fuck himself, Ted tries to blackmail him again with the same tape, Brennan says that staying where he is, IS the only option, and if Ted shows the tape to anyone then he WOULD get them send to somewhere shitty anyway (as he most likely has major connections in the priesthood, even after he gets fired). Then it becomes a sort of mini cold war where each side has a deterrence against the others attack, where Ted keeps the tape in case Brennan ever tries to get them sent anywhere in future, and in turn Brennan holds that fact over Teds head if he ever shows the tape to anyone. That's just my idea anyway :)
