It’s caused by a particular type of algae bloom that’s harmless. You can swim in it, and drink it (so far as you can drink any untreated water from nature)

No, that wasn’t one of our famous pink lakes. It is the salt ponds going into Port Augusta in South Australia. We have at least 10 true pink lakes and the most famous is in WA because there is one strip of land that runs between it and the Aqua ocean. They could have confused people more with Mount Gambiers famous blue lakes in the top of volcanoes. There are no other shades of blue like them.

This QANTAS (Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services) ad was to celebrate Australian borders reopening after COVID lockdown, so the grandmother is meeting a grandchild for the first time, because only then would her daughter have been able to come home. The idea is that Australians who are all over the world still have their hearts in Australia. Kylie Minogue living in London is a famous singer in Britain as well as Australia and had been for decades (although she never seems to age). The young Aussie singer/actor in LA is Troye Sivan who played the young Wolverine in that movie. Yes, Aussie Hugh Jackman was the third, he lives currently in the US. The guy about to swim in the pool at Bondi is Adam Goodes, a famous indigenous Aussie Australian Rules footballer, the girls swimming are both Olympic gold medalists from the last games, Brontë Campbell dual gold medallist and world champion record holder, and Ellie Cole, the most successful female paralympian of all time (six medals from six events in Tokyo), and also a wheelchair basketballer. The woman Facetiming home to her family in Australia is Ash Barty; before her recent retirement she was World #1 female tennis player, as well as 2021 Wimbledon Champion. The school children singing together are from Longreach Public School. QANTAS started as a tiny airline with their base at Longreach. As others have mentioned, the pink lakes (there are actually many more in Australia) are natural; the pink colour coming from combined actions of bacteria and algae and the salt in the lake. The rock at the beginning is Uluru, a sacred site for Australian First Nation people.

This Song was made famous by Peter Allen Born (Singer/Composer) in Australia and died in San Diego.. Qantas plays many version as you land back to Australia, if you have been away for a long long time, leaves a lump in your throat when you hit the Tarmac.. Cant wait to have that feeling again... Been way to long...

It was Hugh Hackman. I’m an Aussie living abroad for 11 years and I watch this when I’m feeling homesick. I’m particularly feel that way with my mum dying 3 days ago after spending 3 and half months going home to take care of her to have this happen whilst going thru a divorce that the delectable individual after 24 years sent me in an email. Excellent! I’m having a ‘special year’. I don’t have the money to return home for my mums funeral because of how he’s behaving and being allowed to behave by the Canadian law system.

The song came out a long time ago but qantas have used it a couple times now, and this last one was as we were opening back up after the pandemic.

It was Hugh and every other one were famous Australians for different reasons. Plus our National girls Choir and our National boys Choir. We have years of these ads made to this song by QANTAS and you don’t usually see them, just says QANTAS at the end but this one was to celebrate QANTAS being allowed to fly again after being grounded for two years with Covid. Every company’s planes were locked up in the desert. The borders of my State were locked for two years it we didn’t have Covid and we could travel anywhere in our State. Every single one of these ads is eerie and so beautiful. We know which parts are our Country. It was written by a famous Australian Peter Allen for a one man show he did on Broadway. Peter was married to Liza Minnelli, Judy loved him and I believe they both knew he was Gay. He died of AIDS way too young, before they could treat it. Then Hugh Jackman took the show back to Broadway and played Peter in The Boy From Oz. Bet you didn’t know Hugh is a hell of of a dancer and singer. Before he moved to America Hugh’s wife Debra Lee Furness was the famous one. They adopted two children and she was the Mother and his support in America. What this song tells us is we all love to travel the world. Probably because we are so isolated but we love that too. No matter how wonderful the places we go are, the best part is when we are coming into land on QANTAS. All of those famous people keep coming home, most have homes here too. Australia is magical and it always calls us home.

Almost welled up? - you are a stronger man than me! It was a QANTAS ad but the song has so much meaning to Aussies, the footage is wonderful, and the voices are excellent. Yes, Hugh can sing very well. This was the 2nd version of the ad, updated from the 1987 ad, a Peter Allen original song. If you gotta have an ad, why not one as good as this. Cheers mate.

Yes the pink lakes are real, their in Western Australia, yes you can swim in them, the water is perfectly safe, it's just naturally pink from minerals in the ground.

The songs originally an Australian singers song by tge name of Peter Allen and Qantas has used that song almost every decade since the 80s/90s in differing versions tp advertise there company after the original one evoked such a great response for them. Yes Hugh Jackman is in it so is singer Kylie Minogue as well as retired sporting identities in Ash Barty the tennis player and Adam Goodes an indigenous AFL player.

Qantas was started in Queensland by a small airline about 1922-3 The name comes from Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services. Big change from a small biplane on a trip from Winton to Richmond Sir Hudson Fish was one of the founders

Fun little side fact, the song was performed by a guy called Peter Allen, a musical was made about his life called 'The boy from Oz'... Peter Allen was played by an unknown actor by the name of Hugh Jackman!

No no man !!! The ONLY version is from Peter Allen . That's when Australia was Australia . There was no consumerism in Peter's anthem , I'm 60 and hard enough but that's the version that brings a tear to my eyes mate . The clips a bit dated though still very deep .

This is of course an add. But it is an add to sell an airline to Australian's and get them to travel again. It does that by sending a series of subtle messages to make Australian's feel good about themselves. it is not so much aimed at overseas travel as it has limited coverage of Australian sights. Australia up to the 1970s was a racist country which treated it's indigenous people badly. The add makes indigenous people at the canter of the narrative. Everyone will recognize the woman in the opening shots as indigenous. However the woman on the bed talking on her mobile phone Ash Barty is a former world champion tennis player. She is indigenous and regarded with immense affection by all Australians. The guy getting into the swimming pool is Adam Goodes one of the greatest floorball players in history. He is also indigenous. The two women swimming in the pool are both champions one who is a disabled athlete. The add is selling the idea to Australians that they should be proud as they now live in an open and tolerant country. By making Australians feel good about themselves the airline hopes to sell tickets. As a side effect the add has become an add for the country itself

I love it as an Australian, but seriously.... would be hard to appreciate for anyone else. It speaks to us, most of it would fall flat elsewhere. Not my favourite version of the Advertisement either.
