@@pauljarvis446 A very famous Australian entertainer who performed all over the world (including Broadway) and wrote many amazing songs. Was married to Liza Minelli for a while. Hugh Jackman played him in a Broadway show as well. Just check RU-vid
This song was written by the late, great Aussie Peter Allen, and never fails to bring a tear to our eyes. Qantas has used this song in their commercials for many years, constantly updating their ads.
My daughter was in the second Qantas campaign of this song, was Worldwide for the 2008 Athens Olympics...she was 10 years old at the time...what an experience for her, great confidence builder !! She is now a children's doctor in Melbourne Australia xxx
wow that's awesome Helen, i know you would've been proud she got to be in this Qantas campaign, but personally I think it's even more awesome she's now a children's doctor :)
One of my sons was in the 2nd version also. A terrific experience for him but can't say it impacted his confidence. It was entirely his choice to try out and join the choir but perhaps it was because he was male, there was always that inner conflict between singing and other more macho pursuits... Cricket and football won :). You've reminded me to ask him about it now that he's all grown up.
@@catherina2611 Must admit, my daughter cannot hear the song!!... The choir/Qantas certainly worked them hard!! They were mere children then. Mine is now nearly 29!! x
@@catherina2611 They had opportunity to travel and to sing with like minded children, which was at that time, something of a memory maker... He should be proud and see it as part of his history. I am sure he is a fine young man now xxx
@@helenpaton4245 Oh it definitely was the highlight of his childhood and he is a lovely guy now... still determined to strive to be the best he can at his career, pursuits etc and his partner is a doll... a piece of sunshine on a rainy day.
These Qantas Ads (there has been a few) are absolutely beautifully made and sung. They hit you right in the heart. They are very emotional and can bring you to tears. We are very patriotic when it comes to our country. Love you Australia!🇦🇺
A real tear jerker for us aussies. But even more so and our unofficial national anthem is 'the Seekers- i am Australian". Even more incredible and inclusive
As an Aussie that always stirs up such an amazing reaction in my heart and soul. The song is fantastic at the best of times but the way the Qantas marketing department made it about all of Australia without being a commercial exercise was truly breathtaking.
RIP to a great Australian, Peter Allen, sadly passed away from HIV/AIDS in 1992. There was a Broadway musical about his life Mike you may have heard of it “The Boy from Oz” , Hugh Jackman played Peter Allen. Would be great for you to see Peter Allen singing this song sometime xx
As per the messages below, QANTAS uses this song in all their ads. If you didn't recognise all the aussie celebrities...they are: Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan, Hugh Jackman, Adam Goodes at Bondi Beach (AFL star) & Ash Barty (Women's tennis champion) on the phone with her sister...IW ROCKER had tears in his eyes when he reacted to this...Nice reaction mate ✌✌
The people in the ad are: Firsts Nations Elder- Rene Kulitja Kylie Minogue Troye Silvan Hugh Jackman The kids in the white shirts are the Australian Girls Choir and the National Boys Choir- QANTAS have used them in the ads since 1998 ish The schools kids in the maroon school uniforms are from the town of Longreach- where QANTAS was founded. The woman in the FILA was tennis player Ash Barty who recently retired The man on the edge of the pool is AFL legend Adam Goodes The two women swimming on the reef where Olympian Bronte Campbell and Para Olympian Ellie Cole The first nations dancers are the Bangarra Dance Theatre There is also the Gondwana Choir QANTAS have been using this song for 35 years.
Yep, a toss between this song & I am Australian, even Great Southern Land could be thrown in the mix. Those songs, especially the songs in the 80's where alot of our pub rock genre bands were writing & singing about our country, how proud we are to be Aussie, we are a unique country & a unique people. These days u have the ppl out there that want to make us feel unpatriotic, to be ashamed of who we are, what we stand for & our way of life. They can try all they want but i find that there's nothing more prouder than being an Aussie, who we are, our way of life, our beliefs & how we bleed green & gold.
This is a Peter Allen song. Peter was married to Liza Minnelli for a time. This version is truely beautiful but Listen to peters version and you will the emotion he was wonderful on stage and when he sang this there wasn’t a dry eye in the house . Thanks mike it’s wonderful .xoxox from this Aussie / aboriginal / convict stock here xoxox also listen to Oerter Tenterfield saddler that will give you the chills
Our Qantas ad, always makes me cry and emotional. I think you will find that most if not all of us Australians have a tear in our eye when listening to this. Qantas plays this on flights returning to Australia. ❤️🇦🇺❤️🇦🇺❤️🇦🇺❤️🇦🇺❤️🇦🇺❤️🇦🇺
You are such a delight to watch with your reactions. You make me smile watching you. I have watched your reactions many times and you bring a smile to my face. Thanks 😘
So many Australian icons in this video. Kylie Minogue, Hugh, Ash Barty the tennis champ. Then there’s the hills hoist clothesline in the backyard when the kids are playing footy. The school kids are at Longreach school, the town where Qantas was born. Uluṟu, the Bangarra Dance Company. The pink salt lakes in WA. All seamlessly woven together.
It's such a great ad. Some famous Australians in it singers Kylie Minogue Troye Sivane actor and singer Hugh Jackman. Former footballer indigenous player Adam Goodes. Retired world no.1 tennis player Ash Barty. Olympian and Paralympian swimmers Bronte Campbell and Elle Cole. Also in the ad you see the children singing under the Longreach sign. Longreach is were Qantas was founded
I used to work for Qantas and also Ansett Australia, another airline no longer in service. My niece is flight crew with British Airways based in London. I remember in 2017 we visited the US west coast, Vegas and the Grand Canyon. When in Seattle, we toured the Boeing factory at Everett. Walking through the tunnels connecting each factory, another Australian on the tour was talking....we looked at each other and OMG.....do we sound like that!! Couldn't miss that aussie accent but it's nice to step aboard the flagship to bring us home!
Qantas has used this song forever, they fly both the Australian Girls and the National Boys choirs all around the world to get the footage, it would be worth your time to have a look at them, maybe not as a RU-vid reaction but just to see how one of the best airlines in the world does adds, cheers There's also a short RU-vid video on how Qantas started, cheers
The song was written by an Aussie, Peter Alan...who married Liza Mannelli and starred on Broadway in his own shows. It's the words that resinate with us Aussies when we go overseas. or more recently have had our whole country in lockdown due to covid etc. Many Aussies were stranded overseas for a year or more...so this new ad has us all feeling a little teary when we see it .....Thanks as always for your beautiful reactions straight from your heart Mike.
So many Americans/English etc who have reacted say that the song made them feel like they’re Australian themselves. Now my friend, get ready for an EVEN MORE DRAMATIC Australian song. You MUST, MUST search for “The Seekers, 1994 AFL Grand final performance.” The first song is called, “I am Australian,” TRUST ME that will blow your mind. The second song was a worldwide number one hit for the amazing Australian singing group, The Seekers which is called “Georgie Girl.” (Sound track for the movie of the same name.) Third is another brilliant Aussie song called, “Waltzing Matilda.” Then they finish with the Australian National anthem before the football game. Even though the group is old in this video, the sound quality of the harmony, and particularly the absolutely gorgeous voice of lead singer Judith Durham is pure gold. And if you want to know what this grand final game is all about, you should search for, What is AFL?” The most exciting sport you’ve ever seen, which out of only 25 million population gets the 4th highest weekly attendances of any sport in the world. Cheers mate.
After that reaction, you are half Aussie. Not sure if you have ever been down here but I would happily welcome you to Perth. Thank you for reminding me how lucky I am.
I know how much you enjoyed QANTAS ad. I think you should watch I am, you are, we are Australian by The Seekers. It should be our National song, from a dedicated Australian 🇦🇺
It always brings a year to any Aussie's eye. It's a very emotional song and Qantas has always done an amazing job with these ads. Here is one of the original versions. It will still give you that tear reaction ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hbGuqmaDgLA.html Here is another great Aussie pull at the heart strings song. Very well written! We don't hear this one enough! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rjkrjYitgeA.html
If you want to see something totally different, but still very Australian, react to John Farnham performing "You're the voice", live, with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
This was a Peter Allen song. And I don't know why they never show the snow fields in all these ads. People think we have no snow in this country, but we have an abundance of it in many places.
The song is by Peter Allen, a famous Australian performer. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bpyZkxEaiTs.html He has some classic songs, Tenterfield Saddler, an amazing song ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xMauNjr7_ZE.html
Lovely ad as usual by Qantas, show casing Australia's beauty and talent. Some big stars and talented children. As an ad though would be pretty funny if it got blocked 😂
Should be the national anthem! At least it was written by a real Australian. ( Advance etc was penned by a Scot. And whoever knows the 2nd verse?). Great reaction.
Such a shame that this gorgeous homage to our homeland is for Qantas, which used to be one of the best airlines in the world, but now has been stripped of everything good and more than 60% of flights are late, luggage lost and on and on. But the ad is superb.
Lol Priscilla poster in the background. Similar theme, different target group. But as the CEO is the highest profile gay business person in Australia so appropriate.
haha was thinking the same thing. All the kudos for this goes to the advertising company because I think the ad is superb. But it would be nice if the money Qantas spent on the 'talent' (i.e. Hugh, Kylie et al.) went on improving their customer service and employing staff that you could physically talk to on the phone when you have problems with bookings etc.
I think it is time to take this down - Australian’s are over the poor performance and disgust Qantas has towards its customers and staff (and outsourced staff many of who it created illegally)
