@Andrew Mole Yeah it's an American thing :) He means reciprocation. Anything ending it 'ocity' like that, has a proper English word that could have been used instead.

I've never seen that sketch before and I was crying with laughter. I made it even funnier for myself by imagining little Chinese kids being sat in front of these two on TV and left to learn English... with their parents totally unaware of what they were hearing. 😂

Irish here. I know humour is subjective, and fair enough. But my sister can't stand Ricky Gervais, and I don't understand why. I know differentpeople have different humour, but I'm religious, and Ricky's atheist, and I still think his humour is hilarious. I'm kind of a smart arse and a piss taker and I believe strongly in free speech, and I think that's why I gravitate toward him. I love how he subtly trolls people and winds them up.

Don't feel bad about getting his French surname wrong. Technically you were closer to his real surname than he is. His own mother pronounced it "Zzhyer-vay" but Ricky Anglicised it to "Jer-vayce" or "Jer-vayze" depending on what he decided that day.

My dad used Carl's method when he visited me in China. When Chinese were confused by his words, he'd use lesser known synonyms and turns of phrases, thinking they'd get it. Such as when Carl explained smell as stink and smack as thump.

This never gets old 😃 I have an interesting note to share about Ricky. He only said this once, as far as I know, in any interview I´ve seen with him. Ricky said that "....most people have friends like Karl, but not everybody have a friend like me". And I totally agree with Ricky. I know people like Karl, I am a bit like Karl myself lol. Now, I dont want to take anything away from Karl, he is so funny, I laugh out loud so much. But the key is ofc Ricky. You could probably find another Karl somewhere under a rock, lol, but Ricky is one of a kind.

@8:00 English is the official language of New Zealand (It's a British colony, like Australia). I think you mixed it up - he went to Papua New Guinea and on the same episode (I think) stopped in New Zealand to do a bungee jump off that big bridge.
