Did you know that Mont Saint Michel, the captivating medieval village in Normandy, France, is built on a tiny rocky island surrounded by dangerous quicksand? This village, which has been an important pilgrimage site since the 8th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site, was originally home to a population of monks and nuns who lived in the abbey and surrounding buildings. Today, only a handful of residents remain due to conservation efforts aimed at preserving the village’s historical architecture and layout. Additionally, according to legend, the archangel Michael appeared to a bishop in a dream and instructed him to build an abbey on the rocky island, making it a place of great religious significance.

Until recently Le Mont Saint Michel did not have a bridge at all. You had to walk at low tide to the island. Just as in the Dutch Wadden islands. Fortunately for the inhabitants of the Wadden Islands there are boats now at high tide that bring you to the mainland.

Ive been there with my family many years ago. It truly is unreal to come up close with this grand monument. You can already see it from many kilometers, or miles away. And the view from above the mountain is incredible!

Been there in 2010. Beautiful place. Very steep roads.. hell of a walk with a baby on your back..😊 (Impossible to do when you have difficulty walking or are in a wheelchair. Even the babystroller was impossible to use) .. but it was worth it. Beautiful place. Would love to go a again when we are in the neighbourhood.

There are so many beautiful villages in France such as Pierrefond with its Castle. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GN_rWuajwGY.html) or Chambord (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TcIPi12lFgU.html) or the construction of a medieval chateau (Louis-Philippe type): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ulGPPoNL7nk.html. Sébastien from North of France:). The funny thing is that Tolkien took the shape of Mont Saint-Michel (Minas Tirith) :)

I have visited it over the years several times and unfortunately I am one of those tourists who makes it less fun there because of the crowds . The last time I was not even there in high season and with heavy rain.

Charlie, did you mean to say "Welcome to Mont-Saint-Michel" like the actor said, "Welcome, to Jurassic Park!"? 🤣 Yes, those ceilings are called "vaults". That's where we get the term "vaulted ceilings". "In architecture, a vault (French voûte, from Italian volta) is a self-supporting arched form, usually of stone or brick, serving to cover a space with a ceiling or roof." Since it's a UNESCO site, There are some permits you have to get before an event like his. They must think of the site first. I believe that is common to do before any events take place, especially at ancient buildings.
