The episode with Donny Tourette is worth checking out. He gets absolutely destroyed but he takes it really well for the most part.

Grandma's House written by and starring Simon Amstell is criminally underrated. Amstell is a really nice person in real life, this was how the show was pitched, actually touches on it in the aforementioned show. Think this is the first time I've disagreed with one of your summations but that's great, we're allowed to disagree :)

Simon Amstell presenting this was the funniest things on TV at that time. You should watch more of it. Especially the following week. Everyone who went on got ridiculed, that was part of it. Most people took it really well. And you should watch his sitcom Grandma's House. Also starts Rebecca Front from Brass Eye, Day Today, Knowing me knowing you. And his stand up is great.

Simon Amstell's stand up gigs, Do Nothing, and Numb are both good. I'd never liked him much before I watched Do Nothing but after seeing him put out every cringeworthy aspect of his personality and moments of his life for everyone to laugh at on stage made me realise he is alright really.

Simon Amstell is really, really good. If you ever get the opportunity check out his stand up 'Do Nothing',. It's an entirely different vibe to this. Really philosophic and gentle. Also I'm from from the southcoast UK Brighton fringe and vaguely knew the OG ordinary boys drummer... Literally EVERYONE in that era had that snotty smarmy attitude (inc myself) and at the time we all had this scene where we thought that was cool. It's honestly disgusting now. I regret that. At least Preston made some money from it I guess.

I remember watching this when it was originally aired, and I always thought Preston was right to walk off the show. If the host was taking the piss out of him personally, then that would be a different story, but constantly making fun of his wife isn't right.

Preston was going through a divorce to the girl who's book it was at time so I get why he did what he did. He's actually a sweet guy
@stephenbrough8132
@stephenbrough8132 2 года назад
This takes me back to some depressing days when I had to pretend to still like this show after Mark Lamar had gone. (Peer pressure accounts for a lot!) I'm suspicious of people with a permanent self satisfied smirk. It was like everyone was trying too hard to become a TV "shock jock" after some genuinely good radio ones (Alan Beswick!) were so good, they had to be taken off air and replaced with cr&p ones (James Whale) and that half &rsed attempt to be shocking made everyone think they could have a go, from Dennis Pennis onward. I still find it cringey when people are trying too hard to be entertaining - the class clown but on TV. Bring back the miserable comedians, Jack Dee, Les Dawson, Stuart Lee, Bill Hicks - people who were aiming a bit higher.
@Live-by2vk
@Live-by2vk 2 года назад
Jack Dee isn’t miserable, he’s just a realist 😁

@@Live-by2vk I loved his TV sitcom - LEAD BALLOON if i remember right .. Correction ... "BAD MOVE" was the one i was thinking of. Lead Balloon was good too though.

@@stephenbrough8132 that’s one of those shows that I will finally get round to watching one day! Love his stand up, had so many of his shows on vhs (and then replaced on dvd) 😂
@stephenbrough8132
@stephenbrough8132 2 года назад
@@Live-by2vk At a glance, full episodes of LEAD BALLOON appear to be on YT ... I started watching the first ep, thinking "this is great BUT not how I remember it" ... I could certainly recommend just having a look at the start of that, just for the novelty pf seeing Jack dressed as a model of the Earth, with people throwing buckets of sh1t at him - that alone was priceless) ... but 10 minutes in I realised this definitely WASN'T his last sitcom ... so I had do Google it and remembered it was called BAD MOVE ... where he was trying t escape from it all, living in the countryside, only to find it's a different kind of misery ... I vaguely remember his misery of trying to get the BIN to the roadside on bin emptying day, only to realise it;s a half mile trek or something like that ... I've got to see that again. Yes, it was a series in which disaster was around every corner ... I really want to see it again for the recurring characters. There are SO many great UK comedies, I do get a bit cheesed off looking at Only Fools and Horses again and again ... I've had 40 years of it and BEFORE I DIE I would like to see SOMETHING ELSE - but it really does look like every new react channel jumps straight on the Only Fools and Horses bandwagon ... This channel is far better than most because I get to see shows I don't even remember myself ... JAM for instance ... although I wouldn;t be too upset if I never saw that again! Unfortunately, my first search for BAD MOVE looked like yet more butchered bits and pieces which just frustrates me. STEVEN TOAST or the other Matt Berry characters, ... now there;ls a misery guts I can't watch enough of ... just not much available and seems like nobody can take the risk - there has to be a reason no-one is reacting to 9 tenths of the great stuff out there.

@@MyratheDunmer you’re saying they tore into Andy Murray’s wife, in front of Andy, while she wasn’t there to defend herself? And Andy just laughed it off? If true then Andy’s a tit. Rip into Preston all you like, but what Simon did is below the belt. It’s nothing to do with a sense of humour, and everything to do with being a twat who’ll say anything. Ffs there’s even audience members shouting at him 🤦🏻‍♂️

I completely understand Preston's reaction, I would have done the same. I don't think he would have reacted that way if the jokes were made it him. they were made at his wife behind her back. that said, I do find Simon funny and his stand up is pretty good, even if he can be a bit of a dick.
