He ruptured his knee cap tendons on four occasions, even tore it straight off in his comeback after spending six months on the sideline after his second injury. One of his injuries is often referred to as one of the worst injuries in sports as his knee cap exploded and went up his thigh. It's beyond ridiculous how he could come back winning a Balon D'or and lead Brazil to World Cup win. Also suffering from hypothyroidism he played large parts of his career overweight.
@babyjiren9676
@babyjiren9676 Год назад
Thank you for mentioning the final part there because a lot of people dissed R9 for being overweight without knowing of his condition. To top it all off the medication for hypothyroidism was considered an illegal drug in sports at the time so he couldn't take it.

I would recommend learning more about The Netherlands and the Dutch influence on football, which has been huge! There are some very big traditional clubs in The Netherlands, albeit in the current money driven football industry its hard for them to keep up with the biggest clubs. Still the identity that Dutch football has brought forward is one that is still lived by today and still inspires one of today's best managers in the world. And last but not least, in my opinion the most influential and one of the 5 best players of all time, Johan Cruijff.

I think for next month's exploration there really are only two choices, Brazil or Spain. Brazil, the 5 time World Cup champions, for the never ending list of geniuses the country has given the sport. And Spain, for the insane influence and rivalry of the world's two biggest teams, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Plus the incredible dominance that Spain had in the world at their peak, winning Euro '08, World Cup '10, and then Euro '12 back to back to back. The level of players they had in this period was insane, the best midfield the world had ever seen. Both very fun directions, both very important for you to learn more about

R9 being quick to react to defenders is only really a part of why his dribbling was so elite. The key component here was his ability to shift gears. He would slow down his dribble (with step overs, ball rolls etc.) then use head and body fakes to force the defenders to start turning. Once he saw the hips turn or a foot plant down, he was off in the opposite direction. Not to take anything away from the legend. He was rapid, his footwork is one of the best ever and he was a magnificent striker of the ball, but the way he beat defenders of the dribble was much more about him forcing the defenders to move out of his way rather than R9 forcing his way through the defender. (I really hope this makes some sense)

Part of why it seems like he "knows what they're going to do" is because he does. In fact, he's most often manipulating them into doing exactly what he wants them to. Maradona himself said it, "Football is a game of deceit." Top level defenders are incredibly smart. If you telegraph your movements they'll read you like a book. To even stand a chance of getting past them, you have to be capable of deceiving them first. The magic of the world's best dribblers is not that they are able to react to their opponents quicker, it's that they're able to trick their opponent, through subtle body feints and movements, into reacting first. At top speed, most of it is instinct, but it's intentional. They make you think you have a chance to swipe it, then boom, the second you fall for the trap they're past you. There's an insane level of bluffs and feints required at that level to even make basic passes, otherwise the other team will easily read and intercept it. It's kinda crazy once you really understand it. But that is the game, the incredibly subtle, beautiful art of deception. And Ronaldo, of course, was one of the maestros.

I think Germany would be really good place to go next. They have some of the best players to ever do it: Matthäus, Beckenbauer, Gerd and Thomas Müller and probably over the years the biggest pool of extrodinary keepers like Sepp Maier, Kahn and espacially Neuer who revelutionised the goalkeeper game. And besides all of those greats and 4 WC Trophies, they probably have the most intristing understanding of fandom in Europes top leagues. Espacially the 50+1 rule is a must know for every football enthusiast, because their fanculture in the stadiums is unarguably the biggest in the top 5 leagues cause of that. There being a fan of a club means much more. That would also bring you a bit more into the "politics" side of football and whether Investors are a threat to the purity of "the beautiful game".

I was 6-7 years old and have been playing football for a few years already. I immediately liked Juventus at that time, and managed to watch a few games with Zidane(alongside with Del Piero, Nedved, Edgar Davids, Buffon came there later) before he left for Real Madrid. It looks like he knows what they're going to do, but in actuality what's happening is he's making them to do what he wants them to do with his body shape. He's using extremely quick, almost insusceptible, body movements to entice defenders in and as soon as they commit he has the quickness of feet to drag the ball past them. He also had an incredible awareness of momentum, meaning he knew if he was able to get a defender chasing him at a certain pace there's no way they would be able to recover if he was able to take the ball in a different direction. He was a monster.

R9 was incredibly talented, but also so strong and so fast if not for his injuries I think he mightve been able to be the goat. You should react to "exactly how good was Ronaldo" by Raymar Football. Btw Messi himself has said R9 was the best striker he ever saw.

If you're talking about players, then I'd like to see you react to Brazil or Argentina - but if you're talking about leagues, then Spain, Germany or the Netherlands are the best that you haven't already covered.

"Many players can use the elastico from a standstill, or if the ball is moving only slowly. Ronaldo (Fenomeno) is the only man who uses the elastico at full speed, and in combination with other skills." - - Zinedine Zidane

R9 was like Halland, if Halland had skills like Ronaldinho...injuries, early sickness, and fame, ruined him, because if not for those things...he would probably be now considered the GOAT. And i am not the only one saying this...every professional player that ever played with him or against him said that he was something out of this world... Nesta, (one of the best defender of all time) that played against both Messi and CR7, said that R9 was the only player he was scared to defend against. Country to follow for May?.....i am not sure, since based on the month of April, when you say "country to focus on" you actually mean the players from that country, and not the country's league/clubs (since i don't think you actually looked at any italian clubs at all) i would then probably say..... Brazil, or France.

Two very intriguing countries with decent leagues are Scotland and Austria. So each division is only like 12-14 teams so each team plays each other twice one home one away like normal, then the league splits in half. And the top half plays only the other top teams 1 home 1 away for the title. And the bottom half get to fight each other for relegation or staying in the top flight. ❤

Honestly you could keep it going with Brazil or Argentina. Both countries have extensive history and elite players that have dominated the game since the first World Cup.

Watch george best at his brilliant best, football from the 1960s and 1070s greatest natural footballer ever, trouble is in them days defenders were merciless and chopped you down like a scythe in this day and age he would be protected also look at george best dribbling skills in the USA! PHENOMENAL,also there wasnt that much film footage so you only saw some matches recorded, now you can see all games!
