David edges? No r9 is in a league of his own. The defensive standards were way higher in his day than in messi's era. For example r9 humiliated a young nesta whereas messi struggled against a nesta with a bad back in his late thirties.

not just a dribbling machine he is a goal machine striker too just by him self he can make a team win, he helded goal king titles in every league he played back in his era world cup, champions league , italyan , spanish, brazillian, primire , holland leagues and he broke world records twice he smiply just never lose R9 the legend that made me love football and play the game though Im a basketball player :D his era is the golden era of football no doubt fill with legends and real football entertainment.

Ronaldo won FIFA Player of the Year at 20...an age when most players are just trying to earn a spot on a team, and might be called a "promising talent". I don't look at the players today and wish the leagues were still "tough". I look at Ronaldo's fractured career and wish the game (FIFA and the refs) had taken better care of him and other players whose playing time was cut short by injury.

He won the Copa do Brazil at 16 years old, Won the world cup at 17 years old. Won the Dutch league title with PSV only 18 years old, voted Fifa world player of the year at 19. Won the Ballon Dor @ 20 years old. Lost a world cup at 21 years old and came back after injuries to win it topping the goal scoring chart. Won a second Ballon Dor at 25 years old. If Messi and Christiano did the same thing in their teenage years as Ronaldo did than you can debate.

Ronaldo at 19yo had every bit the technique and skill of Messi and the acceleration and pace of Cristiano. That is NOT an opinion. It's a fact. He is the youngest player to ever win the Ballon D'Or. He was scoring 1 goal a game since he was 16 yo both in Brazil and Europe when he still was a teen. Plus, he was a PURE WINNER who showed up when it counted. If not for the injuries he would have been for soccer what Jordan is for basketball. The ultimate icon of the sport.

In his prime you can't quote a better striker in all world in all time (only as good as him in the most). He had no flaws before his first grave injurie. But what is really crazy is that Brazil has A LOT of players in his level. Romário (World champion, senior to Ronaldo), Jairzinho (world champion, mentored Ronaldo), Reinaldo (great Striker from Atlético Mineiro), Edmundo (was his replacement in Brazil's national team), Roberto dinamite (didn't have the same skill, but for sure scored A LOT and was the mentor of Romário), Ademir de Menezes (first legendary striker in Brazil's football history). But of course, Pelé was the greatest of them all (even as a Stiker, he did everything Ronaldo did, but also did as winger what Messi did, as a gamemaker what Ronaldinho did, etc).
