The thing about the roads isn't making fun of the Belgians, though! The roads actually noticeably change the moment you cross the border.
@YouHaventSeenMeRight
@YouHaventSeenMeRight Месяц назад
It's partly to do with the governmental structure of Belgium and their reluctance to spend money on road works (because which level of government is responsible?). So they tend to use the most resilient materials, like concrete, which are terrible to drive on, because they leave gaps between the concrete plates. I used to drive to Antwerp on the A67 and it was like getting punched in the kidneys constantly. They seem to have improved to more friendly materials like asphalt lately, but you still run into the odd concrete section now and again.

A bit over the top and mostly city based. 1: we don't like show-offs. 2: a bike is not considered a hazardous fast moving vehicle. 3: we are not health addicts. 4: we have no secrets. 5: yeah you got that. 6: that is actually wrong, city folk often don't even know who lives next door but out in the country people often don't even lock their doors and it is quite common to barge just in and if there isn't anyone in sight shout out to make your presence known. 7&8: no comment needed. 9&10: marriage is a concept that is connected to religion which kind of lost its place in modern Dutch society. There are still people clinging on but most people consider going to a notary, which is still required if you want marital terms, sufficient. 11: we dislike authority. 12: uhm no, but it is correct that we will come to your door instead of calling the police first.
@TRW98
@TRW98 Месяц назад
The marriage thing isn't purely that you can become partners without it or that it's cheaper. It's just that many Dutchies find that how serious their relationships are doesn't depend on whether you're married or just boy- and girlfriend. I know a lot of people who still are boy- and girlfriend but act and live like married people.
@Peacefrogg
@Peacefrogg Месяц назад
Yes. But after 30+ years and 2 adult kids we don’t call it that. He not a boy. He my man. Even tho we will never get married or registered partnership either. No labels needed thank u.

The "I wanna be that guy" part in the beginning was not about car people vs bicycle people. Everybody in the Netherlands is a cyclist. It was about our Calvinistic influences and frugal way of living: Dutch people generally don't like it when people are showing off. Buying a Lamborghini is often seen as being a show-off and a waste of money, as a much cheaper car does the same job better and more practical. Not only that, but the driver was also revving obnoxiously loud in the middle of the (otherwise pretty quiet) city as they wanted everybody in the area to pay attention to them. These people are generally considered insecure assholes and most people laugh at them. "Doe maar normaal, dan doe je al gek genoeg"
@Peacefrogg
@Peacefrogg Месяц назад
I think you are right about that one. All about equality. For most people here being rich does not make you hot. And bragging about being rich just makes you pathetic. Sad to see this is changing among young ppl tho

I don't feel really connected to this video. Where i am from, everybody comes over continuously. The only thing my mum wanted to know, is half an hour to an hour before dinner if someone or more were going to join, so she could at least cut extra potatoes! It seems to be a difference between city folk and village people😘 Plus bringing your own lunch to work (salads, pastas) is standardised in all bigger companies, but you won't see this at your local timber shop. Some people in the Netherlands still live in 1970 or it is city culture versus village culture. Like with the traffic lights. People in cities all 'think they own the world' so they only use them as they see fit. Villagers will always respect the local customs and always have their eyes open for them. By the way, this seems the be an all human thing as these differences between yuppies and cowboys are happening all over the world.

As soon as it gets dark, I always close my curtains, while I live on the second floor. I just don’t feel comfortable with the curtains open and the lights on. I am the exception here.
@AnimalDreams86
@AnimalDreams86 Месяц назад
I do that too, but I wonder if that has to do with the region in the Netherlands. I live in a small village in the south, and I think most people here do that. I think the open curtains thing is more prevalent above the rivers, and of course over there also not everybody does that.

Relationship… Dutch people do not marry that easely.
@phoebs69
@phoebs69 Месяц назад
Yeah, here in the Netherlands people will call the police when you got your music too loud eventhough it's not really loud. And indeed partnership is cheaper, but from what I know about relationships in the netherlands, we love to take it slow. Marrying after 1 year isn't taking it slow here.

our making fun of other countries gets a bit out of hand sometime. took up an international uni study in amsterdam and we had this mass groupchat. people got a bit too excited too make friends and starting posting dark humor memes, which is never a good thing cause some people misunderstand dark humor for being a jerk. but it got worse cause some did not get the memo that its an international study with likely plenty of german attendees and started posting thomas the train ww2 references. needless to say ive been playing dr phil for the rest of the day, trying to explain the memers what "a time and a place" means and trying to convince the poor german souls that they didnt mean it.

whit mariage its that they rather stay together as couple instead af getting maried cuss there is more risk involved and its expensive (you can do it cheap at the goverment building wich is apopulaire choise) Whit the turn up the sound its the joke that we have always problems whit noice because were a compact country so we all live whit small walls so you have to make less noise

3:15 ye i was really surprised the first time i tried to bike in belgium that their roads are so bad and not flat. my small minded brain did not figure out that other countries actually have mountains so they cant make all the roads strait. 3:30 true, not dutch, just anywhere haha 3:40 not sure eighter, i think just like everywhere in europe where people like to date longer(or fk around) before marriage than i.e. asia. 4:20 we are a bit more open minded and thus less religious, but theres still plenty of religion and churches 4:35 nah, people might indeed be more dominant and can handle less authority. but bosses are just as strict and likely to remove people that dont respect workspace authority, so they dont get away with that attitude here eighter. 5:10 the walls are often just not thicc enough. so people that enjoy peace or silent book reading or going to bed early get extremly hindered by people that enjoy loud music and staying up late. imo if someone wants to sleep that should have priority over someone that wants to have fun. but sadly many, especially young adults, have zero respect for their neighbour's needs and happily host party's whenever forcing their neighbours to stay up late whenever. and their poor neighbours cant do shit about it, its messed up.
