I remember visiting Miami one time, and chatting with a few freindly Americans. They claimed without any doubts whatsoever : Look at that beach...Only in America ! You don't have beaches like this in Europe hey !? . Me : "Ummmm. Sure it's very nice...But i guess you never been to Italy right ? 😅
I am Italian, the water temperature flactuate during the year. in winter can be 12-10° Celsius in Summer between june and october can be 25-29 ° , but It depend a lot of where in the mediterranea you are. In the North mediterranean and in Greece close to black Sea, It flactuate more between 10 to 29 ° In southern mediterranean Is differenti temperature flactuate a lot less ad un between 17 to 28°
@@vessillopirata3347 These days there are all these videos about how Americans don't know much about the world . But when i went there the first time, some 25 years ago i was really surprised how little most Americans knew (or cared ) about the rest of the world.
Italy never stops to impress you, I have been living here since I was born and I haven't seen even a bit of what my country has to offer, though we are a relatively a small country you have to consider that basically we are culturally a collage of smaller cultures.
i'm Swiss but i travel at least 4x a year through Italy! it has the most UNESCO Heritage places and monuments in the world, but i'm more fascinated by traveling through the landscape, visiting unknown towns, villages, it is so relaxing
@@Ezekiel903 It is a village in the province of Piacenza, in the Emilia Romagna region. Look for it on the internet. In the first comment I spelled the name wrong, but I have now corrected it
Italy is wonderful. In the same moment you can see people skiing on the top of alpine chain on the north of the country and people swimming in the sea on the south. Also cuisine changes. Everywhere you go you can taste different food and always very good. The cuisine and wine are pure art, like monuments and pictures. 😉🇮🇹😘
There are 2 regions in Italy that really don't get enough recognition Umbria and Abrruzzo. The landscapes there can be really breathtaking, amazing nature and of course amazing food and they're not spoilt by tourism.
Hi, I'm from Italy (Apulia) and I can say that the Mediterranean is effectively warmer than Oceans in general, but it's not "hot water" because it is a big Sea, despite being a closed sea. Regarding Polignano a Mare, young boys usually do diving competitions jumping from the city to the sea (in specific point), but you can't go under inside the cliffs because there are no tunnels. Yes, the gladiator's scenes in Elysium were set in Tuscany, but San Gimignano's towers are not watchtowers. They were built from San Gimignano's Medieval Aristocracy as status simbols of their family's wealth and power. Another Italian city with towers like San Gimignano is Bologna, that had the tallest monument in Europe built before the Eiffel Tower. It is the Torre degli Asinelli, it's medieval and it's quite 97 meters, alias 319 feet (actually, is taller than the Liberty Statue).
Yes the Gladiator - in particular the scenes of Maximus house and the Elysian Fields - was shoot in Val d'Orcia near to Siena in Tuscany (an UNESCO World Heritage site, for me the most beautiful place in Italy)
As a Italian, I really appreciate that people of other countries are interested in Italy, and that they have been there (I actually should say ‘here’ but nvm), I don’t really like Italy but I’m learning to love it, so I appreciate that people from other countries are learning to love Italy too!
Hey. I'm English (both parents English) but was raised and educated in Spain from the age of 2. I still prefer holidays in Italy, I've spent a lot of time in Italy. The video is good, but there is so much more to Italy than shown, Umbria is a region I would highly recommend, very similar to Tuscany but less spoilt by tourism. The Gran Sasso is spectacular, which is a region in the Apennines mountain rage that runs down the spine of Italy. Every region in Italy has something to offer and of course the food is amazing!!!!!
I'm from northern Tuscany but I loved my travel in Umbria last year, mostly because there's not that many consumerist kitsch turism which sadly affects my region, the whole country and the entire Europe...
Italy is of course endlessly interesting, with objects and remnants from every age. North-west of Rome there are for example places with interesting Etruscan burial chambers, some with the most beautiful paintings illustrating feasting in the after-life! Look up Cerveteri and Tarquinia. Orvieto is also a unique little place, a town/village on the flat top of a hill with vertical sides, sort of sticking up from the flat land around it. Quite close to Rome there are several villages, Frascati and the Albanian hills with two lakes, lovely place in summer. A little inland is the one and only original Tivoli, with a large garden constructed in the Renaissance for Cardinal d'Este, with running water everywhere (and of course sculptures). You can drive into Rome on the Via Appia, it still holds up today as in antiquity.
You are absolutely right!! What the video shows is incredible, but Italy has an INFINITE heritage...soooo underrate.. Greetings from Tarquinia! 🤗😉 ...Ps..Take a look at my city...you will be amazed😏🙌🏻
Yeah, the water in the Mediterranean gets quite cold in winter. You know, it's still winter - the temperature gets exchanged with the cold air as well, you know. But it's still way better than the rest of Europe.
Let me assure you, that it's only a little part of italian beauties. Out to turistics ways, however so much stuff (Roma, Venezia, Firenze, Napoli, Verona, Palermo, Milano, Torino, and so muche more), there are incredible attraction. Thousands of little cities or villages, in every part of italy, with art, culture, entertainment and wonderful natural landscapes. Take a car and go ahead, in any direction, and you will find something special. Not to mention the food, in every region there are traditional local specialities, one better than the other...
Hi , we rented a bungalow first time in Italy just south of Rome ant it was from the second week of June and was a little surprised how cool the water in the Mediterranean was. Back in Sweden we got tips to go in september instead when the sun warmed up the Mediterranean throughout the summer , so we did and the difference was gigantic not only watertemperature but also in the air , after flying from Stockholm " takes around two hours to Rome " when autumn begins to be felt in Sweden and lands in Rome , it is hardly possible to breathe from the heat in Italy you encounter when you leave the plane . Now after the pandemic we will return for the sixth time . Same experience from the times we visited Greece. We usually call Italy our second homeland because if you place a needle at the far south of Sweden , turn the whole country so that north becomes south , we end up in Rome.
12:08, you’re right. The scene of the Gladiator house was filmed in Val d’Orcia (Tuscany) not in Spain. However in this video you saw only the 3% of the wonderful places you can find in Italy.
I have a problem with this kind of videos, and the problem is that, being "top 10", they leave out so much. In all of Europe, but expecially Italy, you'd feel restrained with a top 10 per region.
it's actually the other way around: its real name is flavian amphitheatre and colosseum is just a nickname it gained later on because of its proximity to a colossal statue of Nero. That's why there are no other colosseums in the world: the type of building is called amphitheatre, of which there are still a lot.
The gladiator scenes of the wife’s house and of the campi elisi were actually taken in Tuscany, close to the place shown in the video (in Pieve di Corsignano for the campi elisi and near San Quirico d’Orcia for the gladiator’s house) ;)
I must say I really like this top10 for being less sterotipical and being a good sample across all the variety that Italy has to offer. At the same time a top10 Italian places to visit excluding places no less than Venice and Siena (just to name a couple from the top of my head) made me think that it would be very interesting to compare with other countries, put aside the top10s and focusing on entries let's say from 11 to 20 (or maybe from 11 to 50) and see what each country has to offer "in the long run". I guess Italy would have a remarkably "solid" and assorted long bench very few can contend with.
To answer your question at 5:20 , yes, lake of Como had a glacial formation like in parts of Scandinavia as you mentioned since the lake is on the doorstep of the alps. If anyone comes around here a boat trip around the lake is a must to experiences it in all it’s beauty 😊
Yes the lake had a glacial formation but also a fluvial one, the origin of the lake is still debated. The most probable hypothesis is that the origin of the lake was caused by deep river excavations reshaped by repeated glacial erosions in the last two million years. The atypical origin of the lake allows it to be te deepest one in Italy and the fifth in Europe; at its deepest it's 412 m. I'm fortunate enough to live near it, and yes it is beautiful.
6:40 it's true. In Sardinia we have such beautifull coasts, but not only this: we have about 50.000 neolitic sites named " nuraghi", ancients military castles of " contract warrior" of ancient egiphtians, persians and Cartagine troupes, and other archeologic sites( the greatest punic necropolis of the Europe and roman anphiteathre dolmen and magics sites to the sun and stars culte like Stonehenge). But, yes, all people know it only for our coast.
I go too Italy every weekend on prowalks RU-vid channel... You put the caption on English and you'll give you information and history. That's how I got through 2020 wishing I was somewhere else. 🤭
the water of the mideterranean sea is good to swim from May to October, but at times even for longer periods. It's not unusual to hear sicilians having a bath in January :)
14:26 a "fun fact" that I love about Florence cathedral.. the artist/engineer who did the dome was Filippo Brunelleschi, he discovered a genius way to build the biggest dome ever... So genius that when Michelangelo planned S.Peter's dome, almost 150 years later, he did that 1 meter smaller to show respect... I went there two years ago, and arriving in that little square with that glorious cathedral, for me is the true definition of breathtaking
to answer some questions: Yes, Lake Como originated from a glacier, and no, the Mediterranean Sea is not at a constant temperature, one thing you may not understand is that the Mediterranean Sea is so large, therefore it obviously has its own currents, where I live (in the Adriatic precisely, therefore a "closed" sea, to the right of Italy to make you understand, so it may be that the temperatures are higher, plus, my city is in a gulf within a gulf lol)) it fluctuates between 10 degrees on average in winter and about 24 degrees in summer.
Piemonte and Veneto were completely forgotten, despite they own tons of UNESCO heritage's places and goods like Langhe, Monferrato, Roero, wines, truffles and so on.
Connor at about 11:20: "... the technology they had" - - - Has anybody mentioned that the church of San Clemente in Rome is worth visiting? It is within easy walking distance of the Colosseum. Irish monks have the care of it. Under the present church are the remnants of an earlier church, down under that even older layers, with a Mithraeum with a fine, carved altar to the god Mithras, especially worshipped by soldiers in antiquity and on (actually, there is a Mithraeum in London too), and remnants of Roman houses even, about 20 meters down, I think. And down through all the layers, there is an air shaft leading down to Cloaca Maxima, which runs below, it has served Rome for over 2000 years and still serves the Roman sewerage system. - Takes us down a peg or two to realise that those engineers and architects were up to it. Look at the dome of The Pantheon (Rome still), which is from antiquity - it was no mean feat to construct it so that it did not fall down. From Wikipedia: "Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome." It was studied not least when the great buildings were constructed in Florence in the Renaissance. On Capitol in Rome, look at the beautiful buildings of Michelangelo functioning as town planner in the Renaissance; he was active in the building of Palazzo Farnese too, close to the river (the Tevere). The French Embassy has it now, but the inside can for instance be seen in a film of Puccini's opera Tosca (recorded in 1976, with Kabaivanska, Domingo, Milnes). The filming was done in the 3 real places in Rome where the action takes place.
I visited Puglia region and nearby Matera city this summer, in august, it was hella hot but that place is amazzzzzzing. I totally recommend these places. Italy is so beautiful
Considerando che l'Italia è il Paese con più patrimonio artistico al mondo, solo questo dovrebbe far capire quanto vale la pena visitarla almeno una volta nella vita
Fun fact about Amalfi: it was one of the greatest trade republics of the post-Roman Italian Peninsula along with other 4 cities. It went into decline after losing its independence and autonomy to the heavily centralized Norman Kingdom that controlled most of Southern Italy at the time.
la temperatura del mar mediterraneo varia molto . va dai 12 C°-13 C° in inverno ai 27C° - 30C° in estate in superficie. Sotto i 50mt rimane costante a circa 14 C° tutto l'anno. Poi cambia dal Nord al Sud the temperature of the Mediterranean Sea varies greatly. it ranges from 12C°-13C° in winter to 27C° - 30C° in summer on the surface. Below 50m it remains constant at around 14°C all year round. Then it changes from North to South
You should look at a world map. Naples is around the same latitude of New York. The med has a microclimate so not as cold. The water is around 22°celsius in the summer.
Very good video! Yes, all the prealpine lakes were created by glaciers (Lago Maggiore, Lago di Como, Lago d’Iseo and Lago di Garda are the largest ones). Mediterranean Sea is definitely warmer and generally calm compared to the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Gladiator was filmed in “Val d’Orcia” Tuscany. Greetings from Milano!
answering to the mediterranien temperature: the norther you are, the more it fluctuates, but in general is considered a warm sea. if you go near the tropics, like the african coasts, or some southern greek islands, the temperature will be around 30°C all year. I wouldn't say it's warm when it comes to genova or venezia (northen italy)
Among the many things I recommend is a fairytale place, a daydream, the Abruzzo-Lazio-Molise National Park and always in Abruzzo the Costa dei Trabocchi
A particular thing in the Dolomites and in general throughout the Alps, if you look closely there are crosses on the tops of the mountains, in ancient times it was thought that avalanches, falling rocks, and therefore also the sudden burial of mountain paths were caused by demons who lived at the top. So it was thought to build these crosses at the top to let the demons escape and prevent them from causing mischief and bringing death. Another wonderful thing about the Dolomites are the trenches and defense valleys throughout the Alps built during the WWI, still present and often in perfect condition and can be visited, especially in the north-eastern part on the border with Austria. At time 04:50 you can see one of this cross.

Great video you reacted to ... but Venice should definitely be on any Italy top ten, in fact in any Europe top ten. Italy is an amazing country, so much to see - natural sights, historical sights, cities, towns, villages. I've been to Italy many times in the past 5 years (I live in Poland, so it's easy and cheap to fly there), including for Italian language courses in Venice and elsewhere.
I am Italian however yes the climate is very mild and if you want to visit Italy it is very difficult to do it in the best possible way every small place is particular and beautiful eg braies lake craco polignano a mare split mountain of gaeta lake resia scarzuolaa park of monsters etc.
as a sardinian, im kind of disappointed by the way my island is preceived most of the times. yeah our beaches are mesmerizing, but there is SO MUCH MORE here. for starter, Sardinia is a micro-continent: from deserts to forests, there is all kind of endemic flora and fauna here. plus its a land full of misteries. our ancient history is a giant question mark for everybody. the island is literally covered by old ruins nobody is sure what they were for. the nuraghi, saint christina's well, the giants tombs, the domus de janas (houses of the witches), the thousands of monoliths scattered across the place: its a mess we're still figuring out XD. so definetely come visit us and enjoy our beaches, just keep in mind there is A LOT more around here ;)
Cool vid and reaction, of course what you saw is wonderful, no doubt about that. What is missing is what nobody, sometimes even I Italy, seems to care: Umbria, Abruzzo and Marche. Quiet little paradises rich in history and more true than most of other touristy places.
You need to look up for Marche Region also...opposite to Tuscany ..on the other side of the Appenine Mountains and facing the Adriatic coast !! Beautiful Cities, the likes of Ascoli, Macerata, Loreto and Urbino, beautiful small lakes too ! ☺️
Connor, due to your comment about the roads! I thought I'd offer up a lifesaving tip.. if you are, ever in a vehicle with no breaks! Quick thinking is a must remember to put the vehicle in reverse gear! Aim the vehicle towards fixed solid objects like trees and deliberately ( kiss ) or side swipe the objects do not hit any object head on. Unless your left with no choice.

What??? No Naples nor Venice??? Man, Naples and Venice are two of the best cities in the world, how could he forgot to mention? There are so many other stunning places in Italy, 15 minutes are simply not enough, but Naples and Venice should be in the list, 100%!
The Mediterranean Sea never gets too much cold, but in January, February and March the minimum is under 10 °C, so it's not exactly warm. But in Summer and in subsequent months the maximums can reach 28-29 °C, especially in Sicily, Tunisia and Greece. Lately it's becoming warmer and warmer, and it's not a good thing...
The surface temperature in the Mediterranean varies on average according to the zones from a maximum in summer of 20-23°C to a minimum in winter of 10-13°C while the average temperature of the surface waters of the oceans is 15°C.
Yes, Como lake is a glacier-created lake. And I agree (maybe because it is my lake) but is one of the most amazing place I ever seen.| mmm also Sardegna is AMAZING. The mediterranean sea is hotter than ocean. But in the winter early spring no way to swim. It is f*** freezing
mediterreanean sea is pretty warm in the summer season especially from july to october (in june it still needs to get warmed a little) but you can go and bath no problem from may (in the south of italy) to october. this year, because of the extreme heat, you can bath from april to now as we still have temperatures above 25c in the south of italy. in the winter the water temp goes down though so i would not reccomend. in august and july water temperature can hit 25-30c .... depending on many factors...

My favorite country, not counting Sweden. Rome. Lago di Garda. Venice, despite the crowds. Rimini. Napoli. San Remo. San Marino. All great places to visit.
If you want to visit and better understand what Italy is, I recommend that you focus on one, maximum two important and beautiful places like those in the video. Take your time, without necessarily wanting to see everything, but do it with quality by savoring the food, enjoying the scenery and getting to know the locals. Being places very popular with tourists, you can risk making and paying for "experiences" artfully built for mass tourism. So if you're not particularly informed and sure, My advice is to rely on an expert local guide who can accompany you to live real and exclusive experiences and avoid disappointment.
