As an American soccer fan, I am visiting Germany for the European Championships to soak in all that European football passion has to offer! The experience started with an emphatic German victory, 5-1 over Scotland. This is just the beginning of a 10 day adventure of experiencing the Euros and all the fan parties it has to offer!
What a long day traveling from Cartagena to Amsterdam to Krefeld, Germany. My last day in South America didn't include any futbol but the next 10 days definitely will.
I traveled for about 17 hours total, by plane, train, and automobile. Finally I ended up in Krefeld, Germany which is about 30 minutes from Dusseldorf and very close to 3 other EURO host cities: Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund, and Cologne.
This is the first time in 10 years that I've spent a significant amount of time in Germany and I'm excited to feel the EURO football vibe here! I caught the opening match at the Kulturfabrik, a music venue turned into a football public viewing space - and it even had a DJ! I enjoyed a Currywurst at halftime and a few beers. Great times and celebration for the "Mannschaft" or "Nationalelf" of Deutschland.
