It is sad that NS will not let her steam queens run on the mainline. I can tell the NW and the Southern railway locomotives out.

All are great engines, don't get me wrong. I've seen 9 of them in person and partial to the 611. But curious why some on this list are run infrequently (844, 4014, 611, etc) but ones that run on a regular basis like the fleet at Cass, WV, GSMR 1702, or various theme part steam engines were omitted; while not as famous as the Living Legend, Big Boy, or Queen of Steam the regularly scheduled engines are sometimes the first steam engines people are introduced to.

The main reason is because big mainline steam locomotives have a lot more logistics to consider and go through than a locomotive such as 1702. They're more expensive to operate and are sometimes too large for certain routes or railroads, thus limiting how much they operate.

@@regularguy7266 I meant, in the context of a video titled 'American Steam is Alive and well', why not focus on steam engines that are running on a regular basis. You could give honorable mentions to 3985, 5511, 2716, and others that are in the process of being restored. But operable engines that are getting very limited track time doesn't help reinforce the concept that steam in America is 'alive and well'.

@chestertraintours4685 i guess that is true, however, you also can't not include the steam locomotives that don't operate as often, as they're just as vital to the communities that they are in as something like Strasburg.
