I'm from east London, and I pay £9 - £10 for fish and chips, £45 is bloody ridiculous. Rip Off.

I live in Doncaster and fish n chips is £8.50

The Crays wouldn't pay those prices for fish and chips!

I live round the corner from poppies. It's very good and everything in that part of town is expensive! Fish is fresh from Billingsgate fish market in limehouse every day though. It's about £16 to take away for fish and chips from memory.

Here in Cape Town, I still pay about R70 for a fish and chips parcel that could feed 2 people. That's about 3.36 Pounds, quite cheap if you know where to go

I'm not a fan of mushy peas but those looked like soup. Overpriced and not the best place to go.

Less than an hour away from London and for £8.00 flat, I'm getting cod and chips so large I have to divide it into two meals.

I had Haddock & Chips in Caister, Norfolk 2 weeks ago for £3.75. London prices are ridiculous.

Fish and chips - large portion - £6.79 - Highbury London. Not all prices are the same. Was takeaway though. Still , not always best to generalise.

I live in east London and our local fish and chips , is not this expensive. I think a regular cod or haddock is about £9.50p and large is about£12 -£14. The fish did look nice from this place, tho. I watched a similar vid, recently. Guy went to local run down nasty cafe, ordered a burger, cheese sandwich, chips and bottle of water and the Bastard charged him about £38. Of course he just did it for a RU-vid video but who in their right mind, would pay that much for a nasty sandwich and burger. I think the guys names Chuck or something. British black guy. If I walked into that cafe, the second I see those kinda prices, I would have been gone like the wind and not before telling the greedy bastard, what I think of him, his shitty nasty food , that I wouldn’t even serve to a prisoner and his absolutely ridiculous prices. I am absolutely all for anybody paying a large price, if the quality is good. Example of paying a lot of money and not getting quality. Designer jeans shirts etc. You can pay £500 for a pair of designer jeans and the actual quality is no better then a £20 pair of jeans. Example of paying a lot and getting quality, would be like buying a Lamborghini or really expensive house etc. 1 thing that’s always pissed me off, is paying high price because of the brand and quality isn’t that special.

@@TravelingSoloLogs In Hull (North East), my local chippy sells large fish, chips, & peas for £8.20. The large fish is more than twice the size of the one you got, and around 5x the amount of chips. That's tradition though, a large portion is meant to feed two adults. I don't order chips, just fish and peas because of the sheer scale. That fish you got is definitely a small and costs £4.10 here. Also, those mushy peas looked more like sloppy peas. I think we should pass legislation that all London airports need signs saying: "Want to try fish & chips? You came to the wrong part of the country". Edit: I forgot to mention that when I moved here from Manchester as a child, the first thing we did was go get some fish & chips. The portion size dwarfed what we was used to. Back then, the medium fish was so big: It had to curve up the sides of the carrier bag! We regretted buying 5 portions, and a lot of food went to waste.

Don't worry we had a standard f&c in a standard non hipster chipster in Greenwich when we were down filming and it was about £6 each. This is just for fleecing the fleecable.

It is a small part of British food only ! A take away, or street snack if you take it out and eat with your fingers. Most of us eat with a knife and fork and use the condiments sparingly ! This video makes it look bad.

Have only been to London once in my 63yrs and that was in 1981. It was expensive then 4 pounds 50p for a cup of coffee. Terrible. If you want proper fish and chips your better off coming further up the country to the North West. You would get twice as much as that for 11 pounds. London you pay tourist prices even if you come from London they will always charge tourist prices.

@@TravelingSoloLogs- It depends where in London (it's a big place - LOL). I noticed in one of your vids (the one where you are walking to the tube (?). It looked like you are staying near Priory Gardens, Hanger Lane. If so, I can suggest two places that are good food and reasonably priced off the Hanger Lane Gyratory (the massive roundabout!). I do a LOT of driving all over London, so in many years have eaten lunch/dinner when able and sifted through lots of cafes etc. Some cheap places which have been great and some more expensive which have turned out crap! (I keep a note in my lap-top & plan 'eating' dependent upon my diary. One place opens at 7am and does a full English breakfast for about £8.00. Called 'Gourmandise' Cafe & Sandwich Bar (6 Royal Parade W5 1ET) - if you are going into town, call in there, have breakfast and set yourself up for the day. The second is 'Paul's Plaice' (fish & chips - kebabs - burgers etc.) - hours 12.00 noon until 9.30pm. Assuming prices have not gone up too much: Battered cod was about £8.00 & haddock £7.00; chips about 2.50; mushy peas or curry sauce £1.40ish (?) - so you do the maths in comparison to Poppies - LOL! Let me know if you visit either or do a vid and say this is a place John recommended (only if you like it though 😃). Gourmandise has an outside (small) seating area which is pretty if sunny.

London prices, as in any capital city, are not typical of the rest of the country!

Dependant where you are, £6/£7 for either cod or haddock and £2/£2.50 for chips. And then add £1.50/£2 for mushy peas say. You should be paying at least half what you paid for two if not less than half what you paid. You paid London prices rip off. I’d expect to pay that in top restaurants.

@@TravelingSoloLogs also we remove the skin from both sides of the fish. The reason why they don’t do that is because it’s harder to do you can tell a good chippy as it removes the skin on. Other sides of the fish, as skinnin*fish is a skill, and a lot of ex fisherman opened chippies up north, in London where it’s landlocked you don’t get as many people who are trained in skinning

@@TravelingSoloLogs go to the south east or the east of the country where the north sea is stright out the water into the chip shops. am not a fish or a sea food fan my self am allergic thank god because it smells lol but the chips are cooked properly with some good frying colour not white pale chips. maybe sounds off if your not British but fish and chips get curry sauce or mushypeas and cover it all in salt nota vinegar fan either but extrs salt on the mushypeas and your on to a winner. i either get a battered sausage or a spam fritter when i go to the chip ship with curry sauce.

I like your observation! London is the capital city of England and there are many things to do. Plus cheaper flights usually compared to other cities. Unfortunately traveling to other Cities in the UK can be a bit costly. What cities would you Recommend? 😃

@@TravelingSoloLogs I live in Bristol, south west. However I actually prefer the close city of Bath. So I would definately recommend Bath. Edinburgh is also a beautiful city, although it is is Scotland. Although, if you are limited to the south east or south coast, Bournemouth is a lovely place, as well as Brighton, which isn't a million miles from London. 👍
