Its a cultural difference. In India, a parent's responsibility is to provide for their children and the no.1 priority the ultimate goal of a child is to fulfill his/her parent's dreams and make them proud. That's how its always been. Outsiders won't be able to understand this thing. You would feel its oppressing and unfair for the child but its not. It makes us tough and its very motivating.

As an Indian, I want to let the western people know that the modern educated Indians agree fully with your view point and agree that our indian ancestors were nincompoops and selfish and self-centered and even now almost no Indian parent actually loves and respects their children but have huge inflated egos that make them feel entitled to respect from their children. And yes, we Indians agree that our parenting is the worst and our culture is mostly bullshit. Even now not a single poor parent is imprisoned or fined in India for having a child they cannot afford. Indian parents give birth only for their selfish needs and not to love and nurture their child. They are toxic and narcissistic and therefore it's a common dialogue here to say "we fed you, clothed you, educated you", when these are basic necessities that every child deserves and it's a parent's privilege to be able to do all this. I love India, but our parenting culture is disgusting and toxic. It is good that the western people do not understand such deplorable culture such as ours.

It's unfair no matter how you look at it . and it seriously hampers child ability to grow and achieve things reason why Indian children are most unhappy and depression suicide are skyrocketing it's the system of torcher which child go through and parents go through how yall justifying this bs is beyond me it's a clear corrupt system i am not saying to adopt west but don't justify the shitty system present in our culture

Don't make cultural toxicity something to be proud of. As an Indian who's lived her whole life in India, I think it's gross and unfair. Don't romanticise something that objectively places unfair expectations on people for reasons that aren't even crafted to benefit them.

Child marriage is not uncommon in India in rural areas although it's not the norm. And yes he did push his daughters into wrestling and was tough on them from childhood. Unlike in the west, In the east Parents are next to God and it is considered our duty to fulfill their dreams which their daughters did. Good reaction btw.

totally agree. especially for girls born and raised in small villages like the one in this movie. as kids, of course we would love to relax and play all day instead of going to school, i feel like it was parents' responsibility to push us to do the right thing instead of the easy and happy thing. cuz i do have several classmates who got married at their 16 after they graduated from junior high, and gave birth to their first child already when i was in senior high, of course that was more than 2 decades ago, i would assume current situation would be different. but If it wasn't for my mom keep requiring me everyday that I must go to college, and always push me to study harder, support me whatever i pursue, i might not be able to acquire my master degree, and live in my own department in a big city. would i be happier if i married young like my classmates? i don't know, but i was given other options. i can choose.

Hey Anna, good to see you again. Yes mahavir was champion in the years of 80's and there were no women wrestling started. About his old age and young fitted body he really transformed through diet and exercise and had to go through wrestling training along with young female actors. The movie itself was shot in a 1 and half years span to be prepared with all the moves and all the transformation. You should watch 'Amir Khans body transformation video for Dangal'. No, he was not really locked in a closet and infact there were no rude and stupid coach Geeta or Babita had faced it. It all shown for more drama in movies. About 'what if', i guess they were married in young age in 14 is impossible for them as they both have such a open minded father they every girls deserves it. But yes, we would have missed another decade to start a women's wrestling which we are proud of it now. About living their life, both Geeta and babita doing that by marrying a well known international wrestlers having a kids and doing a job of DSP (deputy superintendent of police). I hope you watch all the Indian movies and enjoy your time with a refill of drink in intermission 😅🍹. Your reaction was exact as i had. No filters!

My dear, you have been living in a western culture, where individuality is very much common. But in asian culture, individuality is seen very differently, that's why you may not understand some things in the movie, like why the father is trying his best to make his daughters do what he wished for, because normally in rural areas, and in many households, fathers give their sons, the importance to take after them.

This movie is based on a real story of Mahavir Phogat, Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat. Many states in India are very progressive and are leading in sports for example Haryana, Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Manipur. Girls from these states have always lead in the women sports as they were introduced in Asian, Commonwealth or Olympics be it Boxing, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Badminton, Hockey, etc. Initially people made fun of girls but eventually Girls pushed through to make their own place., now Girls and Boys are equally bringing in medals to India. Unfortunately many states/societies in India are still very regressive. The girl who played young Gita in this movie was a muslim from Kashmir and was forced to leave acting by threats from Islamic clerics. In recent Olympics a Muslim boxer from India Nickhat Zareen had to go through lots of threats and taunts from her own society., She won Bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics that were just concluded.

The thing the father doing to the girls might seems extreme looking from your eyes but he is only doing the things the girls would have chosen to do had they were in usa. But those things aren't allowed to do for girls during that period especially in poor community. They weren't even encouraged or had seen anyone do that so no way they would dream of being wrestler. Things have massively changed right now but that time they just started fighting. These girls have been very inspirational to other girls and their parents to support both children not only boys.

A perspective. The girl child ratio is still under question in 2023 in that perticular state of India. It started revolution in the country in the sport n female across India when it comes to choosing sport as a career. Now you can ask again "What if..." 😊

The girls didn't really have any passion for something specifically so they would have gotten some degree and eventually marry after they became 18+ . If they had some passion but were forced into wrestling then that would have been a thing to think about. But in this story since they were empty vessels and their dad poured some wresling into them at a young age, its no problem at all.

the people in the WESTERN world have the luxury to choose what they wanna do as they just shrug their responsibility of looking after their parents when they get old. but in the EASTERN world we do take care of our parents when they are old and don't abandon them and that requires job that can pay for their expenses. especially boys. so it's easy for western especially WOMEN to talk about choices and do whatever you want but life doesn't go as the same as we plan it to be. and that's another reason why parents children relationship dynamics are different from the western world as in the EASTERN WORLD parents are ready to sacrifice for their children and children for their parents to a lesser extent but not like the WESTERN WORLD where it's all about ME and MY FEELINGS

Or it will be consider as a crime of Child Marriage.

I mean don't parents all over the world enroll their kids in multiple sports or activities without really asking the kid. Here is just an extreme case were the parent happened to be the coach and a bit crazy about the sport. I mean if their coach happened to be someone else, you might have seen his actions when they were kids, as motivating.

Geeta Phogat started her wrestling journey in 2003, that time she was only 14, And during that time girls in India didn't have freedom to do anything except for household chores and cooking. And during that period child marriage was legal in India. Thankfully it's changed now from 2013. The story is completely true except for two things ' The Coach' and 'Closet Lockup' . These two things were fictional in this movie to add some masala in it. And their whole family is a wrestler family. All 4 of the sisters are olympic level gold winning wrestlers and one thing they didn't show in this movie is that they have a brother named 'Dushyant Phogat' , He is also a well known wrestler, he was born when Geeta Phogat was already a state level champion.

Well the dream being foisted on them is kind of true... but only to an extent, he saw real talent in them and asked a period of a year from his wife to see if he could make them champions. Were his methods slightly harsh... true but he's also battling societal pressures and expectations from him and in extention his daughters. We forget to humanize people in movies and expect the absolute best decision from them but that's not what real life is like.... people are flawed and so was he. What matters is his intentions which were always good and he was never abusive or cruel to his daughters. Parental disciple is much harsher in India compared to American households but that's a cultural thing, it's neither right nor wrong.

India is a populous country and hence, huge competition. Till the time the kid will realise what he wants to achieve he will be far away in the competition. Here the role of parents comes in India, as they are mature enough and have seen life, they take initial decisions for the betterment of their kid. Why do you think that Indian-Americans are getting top posts in usa? That is because western culture promotes individualism and the child does whatever he/she wants and you're watching the results.

Its all about upbringing you are brought up and then pass same upbringing to your kids too which is good for them and you too. For example these girls are brought up well so they will pass the same message to their kids like discipline, rules, achieving their goals not bad at all huh. Letting you kids know how a good and respectable life to own is not pushing your dremas on them its a way of life. And yes offcourse if the girls would have not liked wrestling or were not interested in that still he forced them then it would be different story. Dont mind my words we Indians have little different mindset.

Lovely reaction Just brings joy to do a rematch of the film (pun intented) with more interesting ppl many times, your point of the daughters given the same amount of attention and support even if they did decided to not take up wresting and something else would lead to success too... I agree but Being from India I gotta say you have to wear the boots start running then figure out ohh wrong pair and then try again the moment you stand there finding your yours will be gone what I mean to say is like me for eg had to choose between science, commerce and Arts at 10th std I was 15 I didn't know any better what's different they are if anything I would have chosen easier ones but had to take science figured that wasn't for me and shifted to something else and finally found something I wouldn't mind doing for my life... point is might have taken a long walk for a glass of water parents know better children don't we are clueless and the competition we have you gotta do something anf that something better be good. Hope this nakss sense 😅 Great video tho enjoyed the time ❤

If's funny, lot of people play a what if game now than in the 60s, 70s, even 80s. And if you look at the pace of human development, it happened much faster during that time. This just tells me if you want people to become gold medalist, success doesn't come easy. Some people do not require training and are naturally gifted. but in order to prove it to the Govt. of a population of the size in billions to invest, this is what it takes. Kids will back off when they are exposed to such hardships. You can either let them shy away or teach them to overcome the hurdles. How much of a push you think is fine is tricky. You can choose a happy life at the cost of some amount of success. That's why those countries who have high happiness index are generally not on the top in many competitive fields. China and US accumulate most medals and do not have high happiness index.

Try reacting to more Bollywood movies if you want to grow. I've noticed your highest views are from them. +10k vs 3k from American movies. I personally adore your bollywood reactions

You have totally watched it through your perspective, which I would say is fair for western culture. But in India, child’s opinion or what they want to do is something which is not practised since ages. However there has been lot of change now after 2010-2012. Answering your what if- They would have been in male dominating marriage world, striving to live their own life and thinking eveyday to die. cz thats what most girls in such environment used to feel. Fortunately now India is much progressing and developed! And this culture is eradicating.

I think you should be watching every movie with neutral perspective. just a suggestion. Great going anyways.
