OLORI your Yoruba tongue far better than borrowed language u adopted to, for the sake of tomorrow is highly important so that u can pass it to your Children.
Ha ha ha, Traci that is Americanised Yoruba! You did good though. Keep it up. You are always bright and bring a lot of joy, optimism and more, every time you make a post and we are the better for your generosity in sharing. May be I buy you lunch some day after COVID is over. Blessings!
Side note - this should be a topic for your podcast. My Nigerian friends have opposed views on their children learning Yoruba. Some feel like it doesn’t matter if they know the language or not and others feel like it’s a must. I’d be curious to know what other Nigerian-American families think since they are now a generation of Nigerian kids who’s parents are not 1st generation immigrants . Does knowing the language matter? How important does language play in staying connected to your Nigerian roots?
Hey Girl, well I can agree with you. Me and Nigerian Honey are still moving forward strongly. And yes, he is teaching me his his language..😂💗 ..as I prepare to travel to his country. You always look so amazing!!
You did great!...I’ve been in my relationship with my boyfriend who’s Yoruba for a year now and I have a 6 year old son from a previous relationship and he’s learning and saying the language better than I am and has a better memory for what each word means. I do pretty good but with time I think I’ll have it down but I’m sure my son will catch on a lot quicker and probably speak it fluently 😁
Yes, you know children are like sponges. They will soak it up faster than us adults. Congratulations on your relationship. I pray it turns out to be everything you need. Thanks for watching!
This is wonderful. I was smiling throughout. You did well:} It's not easy to go from having spoken a non-tonal language all one's life, to speaking a foreign and extremely tonal language like Yoruba. I am impressed. Kudos to you.
I asked one of my Nigerian friends that was raised in states how he speaks Yoruba with a perfect accent, he told me his parents put him in boarding school in Lagos. He absolutely loved the experience! Would you put your children in boarding school abroad?
j81jevon I am certainly open to it. We want our children to be able to move comfortably in Nigeria, US, or wherever we travel. I am also not opposed to spending significant time in Nigeria.
You did very well!!! You spoke proper sentences & spoke correctly. Yoruba is a very tonal language, so the way you say a word and not just saying the word itself can actually change the meaning of the word (you probably already know this). The more Yoruba you learn, the more important this will be. So if you can get the Yoruba accent down, you be all the way there!! Well done! God bless you!
Oh yes, it is laffable, certainly not derogating your effort though, I wish that my wife would even contemplate similar attempts. Well done, once you've polished the accents slightly, you good to go!!
