There were thrills and spills as hundreds of American adults on children’s tricycles raced downhill on the ‘bendiest street in the world’ on Easter Sunday (April 17, 2022). The event, ‘Bring Your Own Big Wheel’, took place on Vermont Street, in the Potrero Hill area of San Francisco, California.
The Easter tradition has been taking place since the year 2000. This free, irreverent annual event brings hundreds of spectators to watch kids and adults, many wearing costumes, ride down the city’s crookedest street - which has 7 hairpin bends and a 14.3 percent gradient - on tricycles, in two separate races by age group. The bendy street has been featured in movies such as 1973’s Magnum Force where Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry maneuvers around its hairpin turns and in the 1968 film, Bullitt, where Steve McQueen pilots his Mustang.
