David Mitchell is the undisputed king of sarcasm and dry humour

Peri-peri is a type of chilli, grown in Angola in Africa after being introduced there by the Portuguese colonists. It entered UK chicken restaurants about 20 years ago and now 100's of things are sold as peri-peri flavoured. The same goes for salted caramel, which became a thing about 20 years ago too. I was a chef for over 25 years and saw many new things arrive, become popular and, usually, fade away. The biggest con I ever saw in catering was the Sizzling Steak, a dish from the 80's which was just steak with all the trimmings - onion rings, grilled tomato, mushrooms, etc - but served on a red-hot metal plate which rested on a wooden platter. It was just the usual steak but before it left the kitchen it would be sprayed with water from an atomiser and, as the hot plate made the water and steak fat sizzle and steam, it would be carried to the customer, getting attention from other customers as its aroma - and, a rarity in food, its noise - wafted past them. They then ordered one and paid an extra 20% or so for the privilege, even though it was the same steak and trimmings we'd always served. It remained popular for decades.

'peri peri' is really used as a generic term to describe some mix of dried spices (usually chilli based) that can be added to fish/meats etc. Its not a brand and has no formal recipe. In the USA, you would call it a 'Rub'

We don't say "sciences" to talk about any given field of science, could be; Biology, chemistry, etc... so when speaking in a broad sense about mathematics (not specifically talking about division or addition, etc.) Then, by the same rule, "math" should be perfectly acceptable. *Edit. Yes, some times we say "the sciences", but in most circumstances we would just say "Science."; "The science behind this thing amazing."

Nandos is a South African fast food chain here in the UK. It's very popular. They basically specialise in hot and spicy chicken. They've made this Peri Peri seasoning popular over here. When you come over, you should definitely visit a Nandos.

Sometimes written or proonounced as piri-piri, it's hot (or not) spicy sauce, which is put onto chicken and I seem to remember first seeing it in Portugal many years ago. But I may be wrong about that. It's become common over here since.

You should try peri-peri chicken - I believe Portugal is the originator of it. It's basically a nice chilli sauce, which happens to go with chicken.

Peri-peri used to mean something. Now it’s a generic name for any mildly spicy seasoning and is applied to everything from chicken to salads.

Laughs from the past have a selection of his stand-up routines. Jimmy Carr wasn't the first! Bob was also a massive film and TV collector and had an outbuilding built for his collection. He also collected comic art. Sadly, he passed away in 2003 after a battle with cancer at the age of 75.

We have a chain of restaurants in the Uk called Nandos, who just serve chicken, with a choice of peri-peri seasonings. It's very popular, even our top sports people frequent them, because it's the closest their regimented diets allow them to get to having "fast food". Personally I don't get it, it's just chicken.
