The thing that makes peep show so unique is hearing peoples thought processes. Without it you might question why Jeremy was taking the piss out of his best mate at the drop of a hat, and it could be jarring.... But actually hearing his thought process about needing to side with the strong to not get picked on himself solidifies it that that's EXACTLY what Jeremy would do.

As to the slang term 'flid' it was an insult, but it kinda fell out of use, cos it was in really bad taste. It refers to the disabled children born to mothers who took the drug Thalidomide. They didnt know at first, and given that pregnancy takes 9 months, it was quite a while before anyone caught on, but the children of those mothers were born with awful limb defects. Back in the 80's, if you thought a classmate was a bit 'special', you called them a 'flid'.

The “Blair’s oil wars” line refers to Tony Blair (prime minister from 1997 to 2007) and him bringing the uk into the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Keep up the great work king boomer

bit random, but he mentions a guy called 'faisal butt'. basically there's a caste and surname in the ind*an subcontinent, 'bhatt' but a lot of them spelt it as 'butt' without thinking through the ramifications in the english language. i went to school with a guy called 'waqas butt'. he got the p*ss taken out of him every day at school. his parents just didnt think it through.

Hoovering is vacuum cleaning. Hoover is a vacuum cleaner and appliance company that was so successful in the UK in the 20th century that hoovering became a standard word - as well as calling any brand of vacuum cleaner a hoover.

Hoovering is just normal vacuuming you might do at home with a vacuum cleaner. We use the term hoover(ing) as a synonym for vacuum(ing) as the early vacuum cleaners were made by the company Hoover and its easier to say of course.

When he said "most of my rivals have probably perished in Blair's Oil Wars" he's referring to the War on terror after 9/11 when President Bush & Prime Minister Tony Blair went to war with Afghanistan first then the horrific debacle that was the Invasion of Iraq which many believe to be a war for oil hence the joke. However most of the oil companies that profited in the end were China's and the awful war was based on a lie. If your interested in Geopolitical & miltary history look up "The Project For The New American Century" which was established in the 1990's (or 80's?) which called for regime change in many Middle Eastern and some North African countries that posed a threat to the US. As we all know by now it was a disaster costing millions of lives of Trillion's of $'s & £'s. This was show was made just a few years after the Iraq invasion. That's the context behind the joke. Night clubs sometimes have 'school disco' themed nights, where people are encouraged to wear generic school themed attire. Mark's school reunion has apparently combined their event with this club's school disco night. Wearing your exact same school uniform you had as a kid to a reunion isn't really a thing, as chances are it wouldn't fit very well years later!
