I think this episode really shows how even though this show is hilarious, the actual plot and the characters is a real tragedy. Jez is unemployed, fails at everything he tries, has family issues and Mark is divorced and works in a soulless office job. I think it’s why it’s so popular in the uk because a lot of people people can relate to their struggles but at the same time they find their enjoyment in simple things in life and laugh at each other

Thats the sad reality, a lot of people feel stuck and after failing over the years you get what psychologists call learned helplessness where essentially you just give up and accept things. We are the dominant species on this planet, we could make life however we wanted and this is what we are doing, its tragic.

Yeah there's loads of reenactment groups. Lots of English civil war and wars of the roses. My friend works at a place called Butser Farm which has Britain through the ages. So theres iron age round houses, a Roman villa, Saxon/Viking house and mead hall, later medieval long houses. Every year they burn a huge wicker man which is very cool. The battle of towton is a big reenactment near York. I think that was the bloodiest battle fought in Britain. If you ever come to England visit Yorkshire and the north east it's all there. Viking York. Lots of later medieval castles and monasteries like Fountains Abbey. Not far away from Hadrians wall

There used to be a war and peace show in Kent and a bunch of people would dress up as German soldiers and English soldiers reenacting the fights 😂 it was great fun. No actual fights ever broke out. Great band playing old music from the ww2 era. Lots of stalls selling clothes that looked amazing. I regret not buying one of the dresses or nurses uniforms 🤫 they would show off old motors, lorries and planes that were from the ww2 era. Damn it was a shame they went broke and cancelled it. Lots of Dutch and German people would actually come over and attend the event. No war just peace between our nation's. Edit: after writing this comment I'm actually reminded of a Dutch army jumper that I bought that's stored somewhere. I'll be wearing that in the winter when it soon comes around.

I live in Worcester, England which is where the last major battle of The Civil War (technically the third Civil War as it happened in three parts) happened and from where King Charles II escaped. Re-enactments of the battles from that period happen all the time in and around the area as it's part of Worcester's heritage. The motto of Worcester is "Civitas in Bello et Pace Fidelis" - "The City faithful in war and in peace", because Worcester sided with the Royalist army against the Parliamentarians. In answer to the question about re-enactments, we certainly do. Locally we have the ruin of a large 360 room Tudor building called Basing House, built in 1535, that was laid siege to and destroyed by Cromwells forces in 1645 during the English Civil War (1642-1651). Yes battle reenactments are very popular in the UK. For the past 60 years there has been an English Civil War reenactment on our local holiday Holy Holly Day. There is a procession of 1000’s of soldiers from my old school into the middle of town. Then a big battle reenactment that lasts for hours. Followed by a lot of drinking in the local pubs that existed at the time of the English civil war 400 years ago and more. But yeah we have medieval re-enactments and Roman reenactments. Going back 1000’s of years.

The game being played is not World of Warcraft. From what I understand, they are playing some game that may be made up for the show, but that falls under the Dungeons & Dragons umbrella. Warcraft and D&D are both fantasy universes. D&D is most commonly known for its Tabletop RPG, while Warcraft is most commonly recognized for its flagship title, World of Wacraft (even though the franchise started as a strategy game series). Nonetheless, both titles have historically been massive in "nerd culture", but have in recent decades managed to muscle their way into the mainstream. World of Warcaft is still moderately popular even after almost 20 years, while D&D recently blew away the gaming scene by launching Baldur's Gate 3, a highly-anticipated and now celebrated entry in the RPG sphere.

I'm from Hastings and we have those type of events every year, not a sign yourself up and swing a sword thing, more of a planned event with structure, drinking zone, merch and stuff. Germany is the place for full on hit each other with a chunk of metal also we were never completely conquered by the romans ;)

You're right Mark and Dobby would make a great nerdy couple but he doesn't quite have enough game and confidence to pull it off. I feel his pain especially the Shoe Shopping episode where he has a real connection with the assistant then stalks her back to her University.

Yeah we have reenactments over here. We actually do reenactments of American events as well such as the civil war.

11:07 funny you should mention World of Warcraft…the online game was based off an earlier real time strategy single player game, called Warcraft. It had an even more popular sister game, Star Craft. These were both originally supposed to be based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer franchise but licensing fell through. If you are not familiar with the Warhammer 40k franchise, you should 1000% check it out and react to some stuff. GW is based in Nottingham so I’d wager a good portion of your British audience is familiar with 40k and would love to see that sort of content. I’ve got suggestions if you’re interested. Love your content, Peep Show is bloody hilarious and I appreciate how much you appreciate it 😂

Reenactments are big in US east...not much in West coast. ComiCon covers it!!! Documentaries have many historical renactments, Romans, too!!👍👍
