I was on the train going home after work one day. There were to Asian women sitting opposite me speaking in Cantonese(?). They appeared to be speaking about their day at work. It was just a stream of syllables to me (with no offence intended) "yin tong bin dah jo 'Not Happy Jan' din lo me go."
Yup, because of that Ad, I, like many others still say - Not Happy Jan , when something goes wrong. That one definitely stuck. Remember that other ad, was it Telstra or something. I still sometimes say, when someone’s phone rings - That’ll Be The Phone Reg.
Sorry to be that person, but it does "get my goat" when people say Aussie with an S. It's pronounced Z as in Ozzy. We are from the land down under, we are from Oz, so Aussie = Ozzy. Lol. Rant over. Enjoy your vids guys. Keep it up. Cheers!
A lot of them aren't supposed to be funny ads, but are catchy and became sort of memes embedded in Aussie culture, which people still repeat to this day.
The funny thing is that although everybody complained about how annoying that ad is when it first came out in the mid 2000s everybody now knows exactly who National Tiles are. Genius marketing... I guess.
Until now, I'd thought this was Melbourne only. I moved from Sydney to Melbourne in 2001 and hadn't been listening to radio much for the previous year. So I got here and suddenly there's this annoying voice on the radio!
Dad? Why did they build the Great Wall of China? . That, that was, during the time of the Emperor Nasi Goreng, And, ah, it was to keep the rabbits out. Too many rabbits, in China...
AAMI is Australian Associated Motor Insurers 🙂 The Rhonda and Ketut love story is one of Australia's greatest 🇦🇺🤣 I love the high school reunion one when Rhonda greets the mean girls "Hi Kylie. Hi Dannii". Kylie and Dannii Minogue are two of our most famous exports, especially in the UK. You would definitely know Kylie, but Dannii is pretty famous here too (and more so in Britain). I think it is hilarious when they use the sisters as gags in ads in shows, being a fan of both 🤣
That Carlton ad was one of my favourites. I just love the choreography of it, and I love how they got a professional choir to sing the silly words🤣,very clever. Rhonda is Mandy McElhinney one of our very talented actors.
bloody hell, I remember the free milk at school...it was usually delivered some time after 9am and would sit in the - unfrigerated - milk shed until "little lunch" at around 11am... winter time wasn't so bad coz it stayed fairly cold, but summer time it was always just that tad bit too warm but you had to drink it anyway, unless you had a note from your olds...we used to take one of those tall Tupperware cups with a lid and mum would put either choccy or strawberry Quik in it, then we'd pour the milk into the cup, put the lid on and shake like hell to get it to mix through properly, coz the powder'd always form a hard lump in the bottom of the cup... those were the days, these young'uns today don't know what they're missin'... ;))
@@grandy2875 We used to tip the bottle upside down to try and centre the “white moon” of milk! I went to Catholic school so the milk crates were brought into the school bags room out of the sun. 👍😜😋🇦🇺
Literally know all these ads off by heart! They all aired in my childhood growing up. The 3rd ad with the reading writing hotline any Aussie would know this number off by heart! I don’t drink milk straight at all (I’m lactose intolerant as well) but I also don’t like Vegemite 🤣🤣
Please tell me the HBA insurance ad with the crocodile kid is in this, oh and Franko Cozzo ofc! Edit: Ok, no luck, fingers crossed for part two 🤞 Oh, and maybe the Toyota "bugger" ad, and sick 'em rex, kick it to me, 80's Decore ad, Telstra great wall of China, oh so many goodies 😁
milk drinks are very popular in australia. I had strawberry milk at a restaurant in LA with some actor friends, and they looked at me weird and told me it was a child's drink
Great video guys! Some of these ads were pretty general, and the National Tiles one is mainly a radio ad. Hopefully part 2 will have more funny ones for yas.
The 'Reading, Writing Hotline' ad is nearly 30 years old; the beloved jingle has never changed, nor the cartoon style, but bits have been reworked to modernise it slightly (e.g. website reference). "Not. Happy. Jan!' is a cultural phenomenon and is still said on the schoolyard. Rheem is a hotwater system.
The reading and writing hotline number is genius in a jingle cause everyone knows it and Rhonda and Ketut are the greatest love story in Australian history
The Real Milk ad was making fun of all the different milk types you can get. "I just want real milk" is a pretty popular meme in Australia. I had someone say it today in an MMO game I was playing.
There isn’t a single person in Australia who can’t tell you the reading writing hotline number off the top of their head without hesitation. Talk about an effective ad.
Running joke amongst Aussies is that if you are overseas and want to find an Aussie, you yell out ...1300 and if there is an Aussie around they will yell back...6555 06.
We have some very funny ads hoping they are in the 2nd video , the ants pantz ad, hba crocodile kid .... list goes on ..... will check it out soon vapor boys lol
You guys should definitely look up "The Chasers War On Everything" Extremely good Aussie comedy variety show. Basically, they poked fun at everyone, and did a ton of ridiculous comedic stunts (Including the Nicorette ad that appeared in your video 😀) They became semi famous with "The Apec Motorcade" which I think you'd enjoy As an expat Aussie living in NY, I appreciate your videos a lot. Great work.
The national tiles ad worked on you. You repeated it and mimmicked him. Thats what everyone does cos its riiculous. When you hear t a million times you never forget it & i dont know any other tile companies in Australia other than Natioooonal Tiiiillllleeeeeessss
Shower one is a solar hot water system, AAMI stands for Australian associated motor insurers limited. We don’t Have yellow pages anymore it’s on a website.
Fun fact the author of The Power of One. Bryce Courtenay, an author and adman of 34 years who worked as a creative director at McCann Erickson, JWT and George Patterson Advertising (now GPY&R), created Louie the Fly in 1957 - it was the third commercial he had written. FOUND THIS ONLINE
It's AAMI - DOUBLE AA M I....It was a series of ads...Yes have seen the movie...Love Lisa & Mira...NO Rheem is a hot water tank system...THESE are not our best ads...where the heck did you get these from????
We had Kitty from progressive. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IUO_qs92Sxg.html Oh and Rhonda and Katut have a baby now. 😄 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m6awkkPhnQA.html
Hey guys, you might think these ads are "cringy" but I'd rather watch these than all your ads about lawyers, doctors, medicines and junk food you can buy. My husband and I have travelled the "States" multiple times. Great channel though!!!
The Good Guys Commercial are all fake. I went to The Good Guys Watergarden Branch in Victoria. Not only that they are not courteous enough, they also sarcastic staff. I'm sharing my personal experience with that company.
@@cariaus3758 I drink it right from the bottle. If I'm home alone I can easily demolish half a 2l bottle. When I was a kid I use to order glasses of milk at truck stops haha
National Tiles was so iconic for kids because everytime our parents would take us to school, the radio would play this add, epically with the HELLOOOOOOoooooo
Something you hardly see anymore is the corner store, Hello Frank Walker from National Tiles sounds like Frank the wanker. A community add to help the uneducated still gets around early hours of the morning. Just another ad for insurance Australia Auto MuteraI Insurance. Carlton Draught Beer Ad. .Louie The Fly has been around since the nineteen - fifties and still popular today as back then. Rheem is hot water systems and solar panels .
FYI the cringe worthy adds are purposely made to be cringe worthy. Also there is now a new “Vax up australia” ad out, sponsored by AAMI so it has Rhonda and Ketut in it (their latest appearance). Also Rhonda was in holiday in Bali Indonesia, it’s where many bogan aussies go, apparently there are always lots of people that hound you on the beach to offer massages.
You spent so long trying to work out what letters stand for when in two seconds you could have Googled them, and it was pointless, and boring and frustrating for the viewers. How did you miss the point that the Rheem ad was for a hot water system??? The cringey ads were intentionally cringey. That's the whole point. They are more memorable if they are cringey or annoying. No like button today. Your comments were so tedious and boring.
Is milk a different taste in America? It's not uncommon for us to drink milk straight. You need to drink full cream tho or whole milk not 2% or skim milk. Quick search reveals your Dairy Cows are majority corn fed with grains, while ours are mostly grass fed with grains.
yes milk is Amazing. I am 53 and at kinder we used to get a small bottle of milk each to drink during lunch time. I especially love Blue Heaven Milk Shakes.
They were not our best and funniest Ads. Except for the beer Ad. Look at something like Antz Pantz. It won world awards. Tradie Undies are really good but than is current now. I guess we only do really good underwear ads. Oh, the Victorian Ads were and are brilliant. Horrifying, no matter how many times you see them. They were made to stop new drivers from being killed on our roads. They cut new driver deaths by two thirds and that is a great win. They are still played around the world in driving schools.
Louie the Fly was created in the 1950s by Bryce Courtenay who wrote the book The Power of One (on which the movie of the same name is based). He worked in Advertising before he started to write books.
We drink milk straight because our milk actually tastes like proper real milk. I grew up around dairy farms so I've drank real unprocessed milk my whole life. A lot of processed milk tastes like shit, so I definitely understand your reluctance to drink it. You guys should come to Australia and try fresh from the farm good quality produce. I hate to admit it but New Zealand is even better. Their beautiful rich natural pastures produce premium grade products. Big shout out to our kiwi cousins from across the dirch
Ha! I moved to England in 1961 and missed the development of the "home grown" DIY advertisement. I got my first shock when I returned to Australia's unbelievable Commercial TV in 1982. How did we sink so low!?
One Frank Walker ad doesn't make it great. 50 variations on the same ad make it an institution. That instantly recognisable "Helloooooo!" has even been taxed by other companies as a bait and switch.
The worst billboard ad I have seen was at Wynyard train station in Sydney. It contained a whole lot of blurb about illiteracy only to finish off with a direct plea to the reader to call them and make an appointment if they do not know how to ready. I thought I misunderstood it and asked the bloke next me(whom I did not know) to give it a read. I could by the face he made that I had read their advertisement correctly.
