Your wife is exactly right. We tend to take all the beautiful old buildings and our glorious countryside for granted because we have grown up with it. Marvellous to witness someone seeing it for the first time. Her reaction should remind us all to appreciate how lucky we are !

The Church is positioned that way because all Churches run west to east with the east window directly above the Altar.

The reason for Churches facing East is because 'Jerusalem' is in the east.

The Cathedral and city (it’s still a City even if it is the smallest in England) are in view absolutely beautiful and the surrounding countryside is too shabby either. There’s for want of a better word the outlook at Ebbor gorge where just feel our ancestors standing where you are

I live like 20min away from York and have visited many times but when you stand it front of York minster which was that building that brought you to tears, it literally takes your breath away just how amazing it truly is. The city itself is a wonderful place especially for its architecture. I can just spend the day just wondering around the city and taking it all in. Definitely visit when u come over

Where you paused the video in York you can see the round rose window in the south transept. That part of the Minster was largely destroyed by a fire in 1984, started by lightning. That window shattered into more than 40,000 pieces, but was kept together by the lead beading. It had to be removed & restored, piece by piece. Remarkably the south transept and it's glorious window were restored in just 4 years! Of all of the places mentioned in this video, York is a must. It is an absolutely stunning city, and there's so, so much history literally on every street.

The UK is a stunningly beautiful country (in parts of course - all places have their good and bad areas). I was blessed with studying at the University of York and I have to say it was a wonderful experience (the University is actually outside the city in the village of Heslington so should actually be the University of Heslington!). I live in Bolton near Manchester and you have done a video on Manchester (and its libraries) recently and us Northern Folk would love to see you both. You come from a stunningly beautiful country. I remember walking on Mr Rainier (on the glacier) literally crying because it was so beautiful. Yosemite too and Death Valley. You are blessed with living in a wonderful country too.

Lindsey, it's not silly to cry at all. It's an honest human emotion. I'm English born and bred, I'm 47 years old and I still shed tears when I see a lot of the beauty in videos like the one your reacting to. Your correct in saying some people here no longer see the beauty because they just walk past it every day so have become immune to it but there are others like myself who still recognise things around us as beautiful. I personally love visiting different cathedrals and I live about halfway between York minster and Lincoln cathedral if you go in a straight line. Both of them are some of the largest in the UK and are awe inspiring when you see them with your own eyes.

York always feels like home to me. I am a Yorkshireman who lives in Glasgow, but York just feels amazing, there's a feeling about the whole city. I love how they don't have the horrible bright modern streetlights and still use some gas lighting. It really changes how it feels at night, as if it could be 100 years ago or further back in time. It's so hard to describe, but an evening stroll around York on a nice late summer or autumn night is really pleasant. Then stopping off at one of the many VERY old pubs for a nice fresh ale! Golden Fleece is one of my favourite places in York

One of my best memories is of coming out of a pub in a cellar in York opposite the Minster just before Christmas about 30 years ago. I'm a very proud Welshman and a very proud Brit. I'm proud of our history, culture, customs, architecture, languages, countryside, (some) cities, just everything that we should hold dear. We love to share what we have with the world as we have so much to offer, but!! I hate the way our country is going at the moment. It's like it's all under attack and being scrutinised for our very vibrant and some points dark history. This is what made our great nation. We can't re write hitory or change it, but learn from it and move forward. At the moment, though, I am screaming inside. This video was so wholesome to watch. It was nice to see genuine, heartfely reactions for our amazing country. I'm a little gutted there was no mention of Wales in this top 10, though, haha.

When people here in the US ask me where to visit in England, I always put York as the number 1 place. Yes, London has all the attractions, but it's a HUGE city and that would be like going to New York - very busy and most of the people don't have time for you because you are a tourist. York is a place to spend at least 3 days and take your time. The medieval city wall still exists - about 2/3 of it anyway. It is landscaped and you can walk along it. Every so often, there are watch towers that you can investigate. Everything inside the city wall has a preservation order, so it has to be maintained in the form that it was built in. Which means that repairs can be very expensive because you probably need a specialist craftsman. There are also a lot of bed and breakfast places, so you don't have to stay in a hotel. Seriously guys, take a trip to the UK and put york way up on your list of places to visit.

As a Northern Englishman I love visiting London and taking in the museums. The Science, Natural history, British museum, Imperial War, Victoria & Albert and the Maritime museum are all fascinating and all free to enter. Then there's the National and the Tate art galleries as well. Although you have to pay to enter the Tower of London, it is well worth a visit, with countless more as well. There is so much that it's easy to get 'information overload' with 3-4 hours in each location only scratching the surface of what there is to see!

is it hard to get into the National and Tate gallery? I mean the average waiting times, availability of tickets, how crowded it is, etc. I would love to see some of the pieces on display, but when I look at art I prefer to have some level of peace and silence. So I'm wondering what the best time of the year is for me to be able to just walk into the Gallery and be able to look at a piece without being disturbed by a crowd, if that's at all possible. The Royal Pavilion is still listed as a Royal Palace although it's owned by the city nowadays. The outside is fashioned as an Indian Palace, complete with onion shaped domes and minarets that are actually the disguised chimneys. The inside is decorated as a chinese building complete with fake bamboo handrails on the staircase , which are made of wrought iron and at least one absolutely massive chinese dragon on the ceiling of the music room. It's definitely one of the must go to places in my home city.

My cousin's company won the contract for Hampton court restoration, made up of different court yards were where people would play real tennis. My cousin was working on the ceilings made of wooden beam, he found loads of round objects that turned to dust if you touched them. So he called the curator to deal with the and identify what they were, they turned out to be tennis balls that got stuck in the ceilings, and in this certain court no one was allowed to play tennis except for king Henry the eighth..

What a truly lovely video you two have made here. Knowing what you have said about Lyndsay's Cornish background it might be worth checking out anything about the South West Coast Path. At well over 600 miles long it is the UK's longest public footpath and may well be the longest in the world. It includes the whole of Devon and Cornwall's aesthetic coast which is certainly up there with the Jurassic coast and includes the City of Exeter. Exeter is known for it's huge range of architectural buildings with every style from the last 500 years present, certainly worth a look. As for crying - I no doubt most of us Brits would be moved to tears by some of the sights of Niagra, the Appalatians, the Everglades, Arizona and Alaska. We would be bowled over in awe of stuff like that so no surprises to see it the other way around. As a family you are turning out fantastic videos - please keep them coming. Cheers and love from the UK Westcountry.

Hi Steve, if you are interested in a RU-vid video concentrating more in depth on York then there's a couple of RU-vid videos that people usually react to. However, there's a ton of mint places to visit in every corner of this Sceptered Isle. Below's my top 11 unmissable attractions in Britain, most Americans have never heard of. Touring from North to South - 1) Stirling Castle and/or Inverness - base for touring the highlands and islands of Scotland. 2) Palace of Holyrood House, Arthur's Seat and Holyrood Park in Edinburgh ancient city centre. 3) Beamish - outdoor living history museum (no shortage of eras to showcase). 4) Yorkshire Dales and/or Peak District - the quintessential rolling English hills of northern England. 5) Liverpool - seaport of the industrial revolution with Titanic museum, Beatle's cavern club, temples of soccer and so much more. 6) Snowdonia - the Welsh Lake District, fewer lakes but bigger mountains. 7) Stratford Upon Avon - home of Shakespeare. 8) Wiltshire or Gloucestershire - just park up and walk around any of the typical villages in the middle of England. 9) Colchester - the South's Chester, an ancient small city with Roman walls and all. 10) London's St James, Kensington, Lambeth, Eltham or Richmond Palace (whilst all the other US tourists are at Buckingham). 11) Cornwall - best of beautiful British seaside, the only English Celts with their own language, ice cream, pasties and all.

Lindsay, you are precious! It's not silly for you to be moved to tears by beauty. It's natural and heartily appreciated. We don't build like this these days for a second reason other than having lost some of the skills needed to do so. The cost to create something like York Minster Cathedral nowadays would be prohibitive to say the least! In the time that they were built, stonemasons, carpenters and artists took years to create them.

Thanks for this upload. I think it's all too easy for any of us to take for granted what our own native country has to offer. As a UK citizen I've really grown to appreciate all sorts (such as the National Trust) esp. while looking after / helping to look after elderly relatives (m&d). Sadly now, they're no longer here, but I'm sure they'll be watching over as I visit other places in the world (as they did while they were touring musicians as well as holidays abroad). And at some point - looking forward to visiting the States (tho I'd probably need several trips at least to begin to see everything. 😎) Thanks again.

The Cornish had their own Parliament until the 1750s. Effectively a country within the country.

yes we have it all round us, but it is just as stunning and beautiful, yes, we can stop and admire it, and the best bit is most people have access to something like this locally.
