Dear Americans, We don’t eat this at all unless we’re on a sophisticated railway ride or in Chelsea or Kensington, London. I’m British and I’ve only ever had this 3 times in my life 😂
Of course, you'd have to be pretty rich in order to eat like this everyday that which I'm willing to bet most English aren't. 'Afternoon tea' for most is simply just having a cup of bagged tea around noon time, nothing special.
usually we don’t have afternoon tea often, we have it as a treat with friends and compared to what Americans think, we don’t have it always. also for scones it’s jam then cream :)
brock lesnerd, since he isn't James Corden but actually an executive chef for a chain of hotels I can't imagine why you're so surprised and so ignorant.
@@englishatheart James Corden first of all is not Scottish and although they look alike they're very different people. One does show business whereas the other is a chef.
Sometimes I laugh at British stereotypes, but then I remember that my mum once came home from work panicked that she had only had 5 cups of tea that day and then proceeded to make 2 more... Also I love going for afternoon tea, but I usually get a glass of prosecco with it too!
Jenny Gilchrist my favourite stereotype is the constantly apologising one. I have only been here for two years and I actually said 'sorry' to a fence after bumping into it 😂
I worked at a construction company and as a bonus from a client, we were served full afternoon tea with all the trimmings. Imagine 25 burly tradesmen, sitting at tables with fresh white linen clad tables laden with delicate china, drinking tea and eating dainty finger food.... we all became strangely civilised and gentlemanly, it was surreal.
My mom thought that for the longest time 😂 It took for me to marry and English man and move to England for her to realize we don't stop everything and have afternoon tea. "Afternoon tea" is just lunch usually without tea lol
Lemon scone with vanilla mascarpone sounds delicious but it's not a proper afternoon tea. Why not start with a baseline? Only then can you have the perspective to enjoy 'spins'.
Afternoon tea in London is sharing a pack of chocolate digestives and a cuppa tea or coffee with ya mate when he pops down to see what’s happening! 😂😂 what you lot done was boujeeee
Honestly there are many places with special deals where you can do Afternoon tea at a reasonable price. A lot of the times the food is replenishable so if you have an appetite it will pay off. I don't think this is a regular thing but it's nice to treat yourself sometimes! That and a good wine bar with a cheese spread are my two favourite 'treats'.
Shin Khant Aung Myint there's no such thing as a British accent, the country has so many varied accents, depending on where you go. And they really do sound quite different.
Can't beat some tea. Can't believe Americans don't have this. It's timeless. Especially the scones with cream and jam with a nice hot cup of tea. Omggggggg.
@@thatspoonybard8013 well i am English from England and ill tell you afternoon tea is never like this normally is one cup of tea and maybe a biscuit you call it cookies. We have so many brands to choose from. Or its a cake a small cake like a mr Kipling But we don't do tea like this lol not anymore how they shown tea like this is only for the rich back in the 1600s. And afternoon tea is never a priority in a busy world
Thats weak i drink 79 cups of tea a day while being hooked up to an iv that only ever delivers the strongest most expensive tea directly into my bloodstream i even shower in tea, your 9 cups is pathetic!
lol I probably used that word wrong, but I was referring to basically how an American visiting England MIGHT act...like using a fake British accent putting pinkies up when sipping tea, chowing down hard on foods that are probably meant to be eaten more "sophisticated"-like. I'm from the United States, and I could just totally see my family acting like that, and me being all embarrassed, thinking we were offending Brits or something. I hope that makes sense. They just totally stuck out as Americans, that's all. :-)
Uhm for starters the pinky bull crap, like really you're asking if you drink tea with your pinky up. Not all British people who drink tea let alone around the world do it like they over exaggerate it in the movies. Then when they said cheers. Cringe worthy. We cheers everything? Think about a normal meal between two people that is proper, do you hear glasses clingy and people being obnoxious and saying cheers? NO!!
I didn't find it cringy at all, it was surprising to hear what seemed obvious to me, was not for them and if anything I'm glad they asked someone because it prevents themselves as well as the audience from being ignorant in this regard.
Nae West people think all British people do afternoon tea and that it’s all fancy and posh but that’s not true. A lot of people I know (yes all British including me) don’t do afternoon tea. Plus afternoon tea isn’t always like that they just did, it can be having a cup of tea in your living room with some biscuits watching tv. Because of that’s it’s probably normal in a lot of countries
MESSAGE TO ALL AMERICANS: We don’t all have afternoon tea, personally I’ve only had it a couple of times and it’s not as posh as that. It’s literally sandwiches and cake.
Message from a US American: Treat yourself to a posh afternoon tea every now and then. Even if you just do it at home with some friends, it is a nice way to enjoy some time together.
Tyrannosaurus Chen *Why do you say pardon in England? I know it means being a little more polite, but don’t you say what or something when you are talking informally?*
Iustin Raducanu tbh pardon can be used in a rude way too, it depends on your tone of voice, we say what a lot too, idk I guess sometimes what just sounds too abrupt I guess? Idk you’ve made me all self-conscious now😂
But the pinkie thing isn’t correct. No idea where it came from or why people do it. It’s usually only seen in people who look up to “posh” people, who are trying to look fancy but have no actually contact with them and think its what posh people do (their own words). If anything it’s a faux pas.
stobit. Well Bolivia and Argentina have afternoon tea. They call it Merienda or Refigerio. When i was in Bolivia tea time before dinner was a thing almost everyday.
shadebug you’re not suppose to have it by eleven but normally you eat in between lunch and dinner It’s called onces because minors used it as a code for aguardiente (hard liquor), since the word has eleven letters. In Chile we normally eat tostadas con palta or avocado toast for once
i'm American who lived in England last year for a year & seven summers in a row before that & i can justifiably say, this is very high end afternoon tea ( which i've done & have loved ) & you can still go for tea and scones without spending a lot. I was happy with just going for a cream tea ( a pot of tea & two scones ) & i was perfectly happy. Most of my friends who are British love high tea too, but don't go as often as people make it out to be. This is not like an everyday or weekly thing but common.
Damn, I love tea. I specifically searched for tea videos, just because I love it so much. I‘m from germany and in the northern parts of our country we actually have lots of tea rooms too (sadly, not where I‘m from) and I grew up having a lot of black tea with milk on saturdays and sundays with cake, biscuit or other sweets. I loooved it so much and am now always thinking of those cozy weekends with my family, everytime I‘m having one. Became a real addiction. I‘m always buying different sorts of tea from my local tea shop and have a pot of tea every morning. Soooo much better than coffee! Sorry for the long text, I just wanted to express my love for tea 😬
James Dutson is that why I haven't really enjoyed most scones I've tried? Here in the southern US I've never seen clotted cream and/or jam made available to go with a scone. if eating a scone without cream and jam is like eating a hot dog without mustard on it, well no wonder I haven't been impressed by a scone! it's incomplete!
Should probably start with getting proper scones. US scones are more like rock cakes and no amount of jam or cream could make that taste nice. British scones are basically a sweet 'American biscuit'.
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.
I’ve been there for tea and yup, it’s really good. But there’s also some fusion Japanese afternoon tea places which are very innovative. This is more classic
Y’all taking this too seriously 😭, has it ever occurred to y’all that keeping a constant upbeat and cheery exterior is the basis of most, if not all, RU-vid videos? It’s a clip about two guys enjoying food, not an etiquette lesson, of course they have to add some jazz to it, otherwise you’re just watching people eat.
I don’t know about other people, but for me my pinkie sometimes goes out a little when I’m holding a cup or something because it sits in its joint weird and kinda sticks up compared to my other fingers (it was helpful in orchestra at times though)
That moment at 3:44 when Steven not only said “scone” incorrectly but made it into a sandwich and ate it.... 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬 I’m an American and even I know these things
My mum comes over from Germany at least once a year and its become tradition for us to go for afternoon tea. Its such a chilled, sociable thing to do. Its taken is 3 hours to get through ours before because we're just enjoying the conversation and watching the world go by.
I had tea at the Savoy similar to this. First of all you don't eat everything on each tier. Secondly the tea is the focus and you give your preference before being served .
I'm not British but in Chile we also have afternoon tea XD is called la once, and is more like at 7-8 pm we use to have la once instead of have dinner , not many people have dinner here in Chile, and is the same as in this video... We drink tea or coffee with any kind of bread (marraqueta is one of the most popular ) filled with anything and biscuits with juice if you're going to have a full once
People traditionally didn't have it between lunch and dinner, it was between breakfast and dinner because those were the two main meals when it began. It's why up north the meal they call tea is usually had at 5pm and why down south the same meal they call dinner is usually had later.
In Vienna there is a famous tea house called Haas & Haas where you can order Afternoon Tea variations from around the world, like a classic English afternoon tea like in this video, or even a Scandinavian or Viennese one. Now I made myself hungry again x.x
steven looks like he's inpersonating andrew, they're becoming so much alike, the other guy is like steven before awkward, says the weirdest things but charming.
