In this video, we try Nando's PERi-PERi chicken marinade for the first time! Join us as we taste test three different varieties of Nando's quick marinade-lemon & herb extra mild, medium, and hot. There's nothing like a nice, juicy marinated chicken breast fresh off the grill, and these Nando's marinades did not disappoint. While we thought we knew which flavor we would like best, we were shocked to find out which one turned out to be our favorite.

Hi Steve, Lindsay and Sophia. I love learning new recipes, the more the merrier ☺ Looking forward to trying the ranch recipe. My supermarket has only 1 brand of ranch, but how can I know it tastes like it's supposed to taste without trying a home made American recipe?

Salads were about the only meals my Mother could make, badly, chopped slug salad anyone? In her defence she was almost blind but if one wanted a classic Russian Jewish meal she was the go to person but only for instructions and recipe. A trip to London's East End for authentic ingredients required though.

My son and daughter love salad. If I hide the fruit from my son he'll get a cucumber tomato or carrot out the fridge and eat that. Yes he eats whole cucumber's.

​@@bigdaddigaming They think it sounds posh - like French... They can't say croissant either. They don't seem to know that unless the word ends in 'e' the final letter is silent! (At least that's what I was taught several _decades_ ago at school!! Perhaps I'm mistaken?)

I like to have some Nando's sauce on the plate for dipping as well. Most people when going to Nando's will have a bottle of sauce at the table for dipping.

Hey guys. It's actually Portuguese. Portuguese explorers invented it when they were in South Africa hundreds of years ago. Nandos is a South African food chain for sure. In Portugal it's called Piri Piri. Peace.

Piri Piri (made with the birds eye chilli) comes from Mozambique which used to be a Portuguese colony, hence the 'Portuguese style' chicken. Mozambiquens used piri piri locally long before the Portuguese even knew Africa existed. 'Portuguese explorers invented it when they were in South Africa hundreds of years ago.' - what a load of rubbish 🤣🤣🤣

Only once. The sauces were good and the rice was very nice but the chicken itself was very unappetising to me. I saw some whole chickens coming out of the kitchen and they were tiny and cheap looking.

Me! Never been. Tbf, I very rarely do fast food anyway. Tend to just take the grandkids when they want a treat, and Nandos isn’t on the preferred list for them 😀

You have to put some on after the grill, just marinating it won't do much. It's more a sauce than a marinade. Especially the lemon and herb.

I usually lightly flour dust the chicken before marinade the chicken. It helps it stick to the chicken

Proudly able to say I have been eating Mandos from the first shop in Rosettenville in Johannesburg late 80s!! Now get my Nandos sauces in Andalucia! Epitome of a global brand!!

Yeah that's how they have it in the restaurants you marinade then there are dipping sauces for the side of your plate or you add over the top of the chicken once cooked but not loads, never eat it dry normally x

If you watch them in the restaurants they have apply loads more of the sauce with a big brush while it is cooking. AND the diners add more on the plate (full selection of bottles available for diners to grab at will).

Nando's were using these areas as test-beds to see how the brand would land Stateside. It has done so well, they will be branching out to many more major city locations over the next few years

The marinades are quite subtle but definitely would need longer than 30mins (preferably overnight) Usually the sauces would get used after to have that concentrated flavour

Love Nandos! Both myself, my 15 yr old and 10 yr old have Medium strength butterfly chicken with the Peri salt fries. We then use the medium garlic, hot and extra hot dipping sauces.

@@faithpearlgenied-a5517 Many, many years ago I worked for a company in the flavour / fragrance industry. In the stores was a tub of Capsicum Oleoresin. The warning labels were similar to the ones on a bottle of conc sulphuric acid. Not to be trifled with! And for a bloke, deffo wash your hands even with chillies!

I use large bags all the time when I'm cooking. It's a great way to mix dough (bread, dumplings, roti) without getting sticky, and you can leave it in there to rise 👍

I have never been to a Nando's. During my five yrs at a Cape Town senior school, the company had yet to be founded. Piri piri is also the Kiswahili for spicy, so I imagine Nando's has chicken cooked similarly to Java House in E Africa. I find it interesting that salad is served before the main course in the US. Many countries serve it afterwards, most with very little dressing, or just a vinegrette.

There's plenty of Nandos in Maryland, Virgina and DC. Previously Nando's in the USA paid a "Living wage" which means that tipping was not expected as a standaard. (I'm not sure this is the case now)

The marinades for home use don't ever do what you expect them to, unless perhaps you perforate the chicken and allow it to marinade for 2 days in the fridge. you always need to add extra sauce. Even in the restaurant, you need to add more sauce, especially if you like it spicy,

With the hot bake one, try putting it in an ovenproof dish and bake with the sauce, its a totally different spice level. If i do the bake one and mix the sauce through some rice preferably Tilda Firecracker rice its pretty hot.

You should try to find and try Biltong. It is like jerky but better. It's fillets of meat that are dried and cured with spices.

Damn good idea with the baggies, ive never thought of that, but i am only 41 years old, LOL, i usually just put the chicken in the oven/grill and pour a little over the top, But man you guys have just changed my life. Nice one OK, so a little edit at 7:30 in, So here in the UK we have like 5 levels of hot, It generally goes Mild, medium, Hot, but the hot has 5 levels, and they are usually marked with chillies, i cant go over a 2 chilly, so im weak sauce, LOL, but each to their own i say. We get the hot one in the pouch, we use skinless chicken thighs, we cook it with sliced bell peppers and serve with rice. It’s lovely.

You need to try the XX hot piri piri sauce and don't just marinated the chicken have some sauce on the side for dipping as well,have a glass of water handy as it is very hot,great review guys

I always find that so many store bought or premade sauces/marinades claiming to be hot are very disappointing. I like spice, I was married to a Jamaican/British woman for a good few years and learned to love spicy food so much so that even now I still love cooking with Scotch Bonnets and spicier chillies when I can get them.

It's nothing like it used to be. These days 'hot' often means hot. In the 80s if something was 'chilli flavour' it was normally slightly peppery

Best to marinade overnight in the fridge, remove 30-45 minutes before cooking to allow to attain ambient temperature. If freezing Chicken or chops / steaks I add the marinade to the individual bags before freezing, allowing to thaw overnight in fridge when required.

I would cook chicken in oven and put sauce on tbh as the flavour would have cooked away with the way you cooked it on that grill .but if in oven you would taste a big difference but I guess it’s to your own taste and as long advance you all like it I suppose it’s a win win

In coventry city center UK, We have a nandos restaurant. I've never been there,but a lot's of my friends have . But some PEPOLE just by the nandos sauces. I like the Lennon and herb sauce on chicken and salad. Take care and all the best. 😊😊😊👍👍👍💖

I like Nando’s especially back in the naughties when I didn’t have to pay for it, my then colleagues used to let the Nando staff park free hence the freebie’s, the manager even gave me some Nando’s dishes which I still have 😊. You can buy Nando’s sweet chilli jam, Perinaise dressing (excuse the spelling) and some seasoning. ❤️

I used to get these but then found that LIDL's and ALDI did the same thing, without the name, for 1/3 of the price. :D In other news, you have a lovely kitchen. What you may want to try, with your other channel, is family cooking as I think a lot of people won't get their children to eat lovely, healthy meals like you do Sophia.

Its alot nicer fresh in the UK, they marinate it over night, or 24 hours before its served. I did see that the chicken after you cooked it didnt have much colour.

The lemon and herb marinade is way better than the powder version because I could never get the sprinkle version right and my face contorted with the severe lemon. my fault and not theirs! 😂

Your cooker can be dangerous with the contols at the back of your cooker,So if you had a hot pan on the back cooking element you could burn your hand(s).UK cookers have the controls at the front of the cooker,out of way of the cooking elements.Get your butter on the corn.

Flippin love Nando’s and now I’m going to get it for my dinner lol. I. Think you would get more taste out of the sauces by putting them over a full roast chicken overnight and u will get a more authentic Nando’s taste. Saying that is Nando’s not cooked on a hot bbq grill so you get that Smokey char look and taste too ? I always get 2x chicken legs medium spice, mash, holumi cheese and coleslaw and it’s so so yummy !I think the strengths in marinade is lemon/medium/hot and extra hot. Correct me if I’m wrong tho !

Went with my boys and grand kid's at Christmas meet up I think the sauces would be mild than the restaurant. And your chicken looks like slices to me.

I like the Nandos Fino pitta (2 chicken thighs, 2 thing slices of halloumi, garlic mayo and lettuce) I always choose plainish as I can't do heat at all. I find the plain fine but my youngest finds the plainish too spicy. You definitely need to visit when you're in the UK, the at home stuff isn't a patch on the restaurant stuff (lemon and herb is more spicy in the restaurant I think but I don't like lemon so I haven't tried it. My eldest does lemon and herb or garlic sauce which is medium over plainish spiced chicken).

There is an extra hot sauce from Nandos, i don't know if they sell it in bottles though or if its restaurant only.

Tip, marinate wings overnight. For a nice marinade, I prefer chicken on the bone. Baste in excess marinade during cooking. Doesn't BBQ well as the marinade will burn, unless you use indirect heat.

One of the things that contributed to me becoming vegetarian. I used to eat at these. Awful reports of poor welfare of chickens back in 2019…

I was too distracted by your cooker. I haven’t seen rings like that since the 80’s. The foil over the rings was a thing my mum did in the 1980’s too! These days we have ceramic hobs, induction hobs etc.

I'm probably one of the few Brits who has never had a Nandos! - Thankfully, I am blessed with living in a city with loads of independent restaurants, so it's never really been on my radar. I ought to get round to trying it at some point as it appears to be very popular. Thinking about it, there are loads of chain restaurants I've yet to try. Maybe I ought to make an effort, there must be something in it.

it was good 10 years ago because you could get a half chicken, rice, veg for like £7, it was a solid lunch. Now its a little overpriced for how simple the food is.

If you have one near you, try Turtle Bay. The Goat Curry and sweetcorn fritters are amazing!

Nandos is also popular in South Africa and to a certain extent Portugal. Also those cities in the USA that have Nandos most likely have large Portuguese communities

Never been to a Nandos restaurant but have tried some of there products from the supermarket especially there perinaise (peri peri mayo) which tastes awesome especially with chips/fries 😊

Only had nandos twice as there isn't any near us,,had the xx hot sauce,,was ok,bit of a bite.Must ask,Is that Corn from the local area,,looks juicy and fresh..

Instead of marinating the steak in the sauce, use the Nando's as a dressing on the side of your plate........you might find it a tad hotter........
